You can tell Kakko was playing under great stress. His interview with the Seattle media pretty much told me that, after watching it. He really wanted out but tired his best not to throw anyone under the bus. The Locker Room environment is a lot more toxic currently then I thought.
Not sure why we didn't wait until the deadline. Could have potentially gotten more or packaged him in a larger deal at the deadline. To me this was a panic trade. Drury is "doing something" so that he cannot be accused of "doing nothing".
Its embarrassing every fan base and hockey content creator is ripping on my team and I can't even try to defend . Now I keep seeing rumors of a huge move in the works , if only I trusted Drury .
Borgen sounds like a Walmart version of Jacob Trouba. A mediocre 3rd line defenseman that can make a few hits at a discount price.
The Rangers needed to make deals that actually improved the team now…..not potentially down the road. Sometimes addition by subtraction is good enough but not here. To sum it up , the Rangers traded Trouba and Kakko for two third pair defensemen, if that, three draft picks, 3rd,4th, and a 6th and $6.6 million in cap space. Getting rid of Trouba’s contract was great, but you still had to replace him and trading Kakko for a guy that really doesn’t move the needle and losing $300k in cap space in the deal is bad. I don’t care about the draft picks because that doesn’t help the current roster unless they are flipped. Drury made a knee jerk move because of Kakko’s comments, which were correct, and wound up getting a lot less than his worth.
I can't believe we have signed a goalie to a ludicrous contract to go into a rebuild, whether it ends up that way unintentionally – and I don't trust Drury in the slightest not to make a pigs ear of it – or not. Within that, though, I just don't get this move with Kakko. Doesn't clear cap space, nor adds quality. We are bursting at the seams with bog average D and we hardly needed another.
Drury signed Zibanejad to a horrible contract and I have no doubt the Igor contract has bad optics short to medium term, too. That deal could look very bad well down the line. Let's hope not as bad and as quickly as that of 93.
We traded an overall #2 pick who is currently a +9 for a no name D man who’s currently -13…and some trash picks… bad trade. Really bad trade. Should’ve dumped K’Andre Miller waaaaay before KK

This could actually end up being a solid deal but I don't buy for a second that Kaako's comments had nothing to do with it. The Rangers absolutely need to rethink how they develop and coach players.
Kakko at the worst will be a solid 12-14 year vet. Will Borgen??? The Rangers should have waited until the trade deadline to move Kakko. Huge mistake by Drury.
All the rafs are going to have to go because moving the big contracts are going to have to be sorted at the deadline or summer. The Rangers don't have a 2 nd round pick until 2030! Borgen can be shuffled out for another pick if he plays well. Hang in there. This is going to be painful but not as shitty as we've been on the ice.🎄🎄🍸🏒

Did anybody see that wonderful game he had last night😂 he had one amazing toe drag shot, and guess what it didn’t go in. It came close though. 😂😂😂 or should I say what else is new? His value was dog crap and he started voicing his complaints to the media that becomes a cancer for the team and at this point this is the only option I could see the biggest mistake. The New York Rangers did was drafting him in the first place.
Apparently, Rangers scouts love Borgen, so I'll reserve judgement. As for Kakko, in 2019 I was posting that Rangers should not draft him. I came to this conclusion after watching every shift of his in 5 games in the Finnish Liga. What stood out was his total lack of defensive play then & his lazy work ethic. So he became a defensive specialist in the NHL & sacrificed his offensive skills that he was drafted for. Apparently, he can't do both at the same time. His value was greatly diminished, so getting a player & third was as good as it was going to get. Miller should be the next to go. As for winning a trade, that will be decided a couple of years from now.
This is actually a decent deal for a 3rd line player. Should they have made the trade at the deadline where value goes higher, yes, however you can’t keep a player who’s upset and risk him degrading your locker room more. Kakko is a good kid, I maintain Finnish players take longer, but he’s played with a lot of quality players and he couldn’t make it work. The deal gets picks that are needed and Borgen who can help the defense. Mind you, rangers can flip him at the deadline also. This team isn’t built to win the cup so packaging players and mortgaging the future for a team that has shown it can’t do it, would be a waste. This isn’t the year. It hasn’t been since the Tampa ECF. Florida proved they’re built poorly and they still ran it back. Be patient. Finally, I think the rangers ruined Kakko since the beginning. He should’ve started his career in the AHL until he was ready to come up. When it comes to prospects, the rangers organization shows no patience unless they’re defenseman. Hopefully they will be patient with Perrault, because he’s the rangers next superstar. Good for Kakko, he needed a new atmosphere.
While I agree that adding "draft capital" is very important – – – I worry our best draft pick will come from plummeting to the bottom of league standings.
Stop comparing #2 pick to what they got. Kakko didnt become what they expected and they were not winning with him. I think he is a solid player but he's not part of what wins a cup. The return gives NY 2 more picks to work with in a trade or to move up in the draft. I thinknl Drury is clearing a path with cap space and assets to make some big moves and get this team to be a tougher more aggressive contender. The players they acquired are probably not staying unless they work out better than expected.
Fire Drury. Openly sending a letter to all the other gms with player names is beyond reckless and Kacko trade flat out stupid. The kid is 24
