That’s the same ref who took a goal away from Stutzle and penalized him when he knocked an opponent’s stick away but Stutzle was in the process of making a shot. Look it up. That ref couldn’t qualify to ref a junior high game.
Man I love Torts. What a legend.
NHL officiating has become an absolute joke. Sad.
I don't get it. Delayed penalty or not, you always can get a sixth player on the ice if your goaltender isn't. And six players plus goaltender is a penalty – no matter what. Am i missing here somerhing?
lets see all you experts do better.
Okay. It’s a mistake. But they ultimately got it right. The problem with Anger Management Boy is you can object without acting like a deranged mental patient. Sorry, Tortsie Boy’s act is as tired and as stale as he is.
Detroit ended up being the one that got hosed here. The ref was going to call a bad call on them and then quickly decided better of it. The Flyers brought an extra guy out as a result. That went on for at least 30 seconds before they finally stopped play and rightfully didn't call a penalty on either side. But then a horrible makeup call against Detroit that luckily didn't end up being a goal for Philly. The Redwings coach should have been as fired up as Torts was…
What should have happened here is pretty simple. Ref realizes the Flyers reacted to his arm going up. Blow the whistle. Then have a faceoff at center ice due to an errant whistle and done. No makeup call against Detroit and no 30 to 40 seconds of confusion for both teams on the ice.
In my opinion, coaches should have the right to challenge any call on the ice.
The officiating as of late has been absolutely atrocious. They don't know what they are doing half the time. Calling penalties that aren't penalties and calling goals that aren't goals. Also not calling goalie interference when it's blatant af
I think the refs made the right call after all was said and done with no penalty on the play… that said, why was the faceoff still in the Philly zone? Yes, the play ended in the zone, but the whole sequence happened from a mistake by the ref at center ice. I think the ensuing faceoff should have been at center ice. This is coming from a Red Wings fan.
“ it’s on video!!!” “ oh that!, yea i was just stretching , my one arm was getting a little bit stiff……”
Refs make mistakes and bad calls but the do-over is a makeup call. Ref learned a lesson, if you call a penalty, its a penalty. No oopsie, I didnt mean it.
Wtf
Love the slow turn from the ref when he says there’s no penalty😅.
Poor guy. He fucked up. Made a mistake. Reffing hockey is the hardest job in sports. No one likes you. It's the fastest sport in the world. Everything and nothing is happening at the same time.
The ref putting his arm up or not kinda doesn't matter, for them to put the 6th skater on the ice they STILL NEED TO BRING IN THE GOALIE, which DID NOT even come close to happening.
Refs suck
and blind
This generation of officiating is horrible has to be the worst of all time when it should be the best with the dang technology…😂
Were the Flyers empty net at the time? Certainly doesn't look like it with them having a goalie in the net right after this. Flyers had 6 on the ice + the goalie – 7 men. Too many men. Call the penalty.
Tortellini is always good for a laugh.
When a player does something wrong they are fined or given games as a penalty or both, why are the refs not accountable.
I remember being a ref for a peewee or squirt game and I did one of those. Kids fell into each other and my instant reaction was "oh thats a check, you can do that" arm up wait no they fell into eachother arm down
Coach A was pissed lol I had to own it
At this point the honor system is a better officiating system than the refs
There was a trip that the player didn’t actually fall … arm went up and down because of it.
Not sure why you think the Flyers deserved a makeup call since the Wings were the team being penalized for the Flyers having a unfair advantage based on a bad call from the ref.
Gary batman sucks
Everyone getting upset about a mistake, but at least he did the right thing and didn’t call anything after the discussion. Could imagine someone with a bigger ego pretending nothing happened and imposing too many men on the flyers because they put the goalie back out mid-play. Feel sorry this ref is going to have to live with this and get laughed at when he did the right thing where many others would not have.
I've never seen this in my 60 plus years of watching. I watched this game and I couldn't believe this referee. Torts was classic he's a great coach ,very passionate. Go wings !
These lip reading videos are the best hahah, even my hockey hating friends love them.
I thought my beer league refs were bad. We pulled the goalie with 2 minutes in the 3rd while on the power play. We scored, and they called the goal back claiming we had too many men on the ice. It was bananas, the rink league director was watching and ran out, told them they were wrong and they went on to have a shouting match with the guy.
I've been a Burins fan for over 50 years and one of the worst refs I ever saw was Ron Wicks
I've never understood makeup calls. If you make a bad call or miss a call that's fine, let that shit go. Do NOT spend the rest of the game calling bullshit penalities in attempt to "makeup" for your mistake. Just because you screw over one team does NOT mean you screw over both.
And I thought NFL officiating was bad…
