Wouldn't that technically be a free penalty shot because they covered up the puck with their hands?
I think the only way for the red wings to continue play would be to high stick or interference the goalie so it should've been a dead play without the defenders covering anyway.

I don't think it counts as a cover in the crease as the puck is not in the crease. It's above the crease.. so I don't think the ruling would be a penalty
