If you break this team into two groups, there is a good nucleus in place: Barzal, Horvat, Duclair, Holmstrom, Lee, Romanov, Dobson, George, Sorokin.
If management used Nelson, Palmieri, Pelech, Pulock, Pageau to get assets back, they could easily do a 180 within 2 years. Get a few picks and prospects and give Eiserman & co. some time to develop.
The absolute worst thing this team could do is reinvest into win-now mode as that will set this franchise back 5+ years instead of a couple.
With that goal scoring ability i'd put eisermann in nhl asap. Eiserman is probably too good for ahl stop. Could go straight from bu to nhl. There isn't much of a 'ripening' period anymore. Teams want good young players asap in todays nhl. Except louzer doesn't abide by that one. After next season is probably more reasonable date for eiserman. Got to get rid of the old dead weight up front that will drag eiserman down as well as louzer gm first. I'm not sure how the ncaa nil rules work but it could mean eiserman even at bu could get a camp look and even 9 game look in fall with elc deal. In short it is probably up to eiserman and isles if/when he decides to go pro. Hopefully eiserman is good enough to avoid the dreaded isle ahl curse and can go bu to isles with no ahl stop destined to ruin his development. Isles don't need another dal cole, bellows, or wahlstrom who suddenly forget how to score goals as soon as the ink dries on the contract. I'd be all for eiserman on isles next season given they have a few fresh young guys added up front to go with eiserman. Or eiserman could go pro after bu season and get a cup of coffee look with isles granted elc doesn't effect that/ncaa nil rule which wont take effect until next summer. HAPPY NEW YEAR GIL.
Eiserman skill is a heavy nhl shot
Weakness
Does not drive the play
Doesn't create for his line
Doesn't create for himself
Doesn't play D
Weakness in power skating
Lack of overall effort
There is potential
So don't rush him
Good 🌄, Gil, how are you? I don't think they should rush Cole Eisernman. I think they should keep that young man at Boston University until they know he can handle life in the NHL or until he has a major under his belt, whichever comes 1st. Hade Kalachee is right. The more patient the Islanders are, THE BETTER. If they rush him, he may turn out to be a disappointment. You're right about one thing, the Islanders hadn't had an assassin since Mike Bossy 1957-2022, and he'd turn in his grave if he knew how the current Islanders were having problems putting the puck in the net. Injuries are one of the big reasons the Islanders are having problems. This ⏲️, it's Brock Nelson, who left in the 3rd period and did not come back. Simon Holmstrom's playing well on the quiet. If
the Islanders retool, And THAT'S A BIG IF, they need to get more youth, speed, muscle, and experience. They're in Toronto this afternoon. They won't have Auston Matthews; however, if they don't step on that rattlesnake, John Tavares, they'll be just fine. The Maple 🍁 are in a tight race in the Atlantic Division. HAPPY 🎂, GERRY HART 1948-2023. An original Islander who was tough as nails. Best game, 01/06/1976 against the then KC Scouts, he had 2 goals and 2 assists. Bonus game 05/11/1975 game 6 of the Semifinals against the Champion Flyers, he 🚫 every shot that came at him, and he scored the GW goal that gave them a 2-1 win tied the series at 3 games before Kate Smith and heartbreak set in 2 🌙 later. But they sent a message to the rest of the NHL, and especially those dreaded Rangers and Flyers, YOU CAN'T PUSH AROUND, US ANYMORE. Hear from you later, Gil, and LET'S GO ISLANDERS.
Good morning team! Gil, I completely agree about Eiserman. I see no reason to rush his development. He's doing fine growing into the NHL. I'm willing to give it a few years to have the long term benefit of his play. He's showing great promise. My only other suggestion at this point, please keep him away from Bridgeport, but if not there, then where? Seeing Eiserman on Bridgeport scares me, but I know it's the inevitable stop he must make to be on the big team. We'll see how that goes. Always fun starting my day with Locked On. Thank you for what you do. Everyone, have a great day today! Enjoy the game tonight. Wishing everyone a Happy, Healthy, and prosperous New Year! See you all again during the next episode. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!
Didn’t they bring ip Kenny Morrow from the Olympics? Not sure how many years he had played before. Read that Matthews is skating with team but won’t play tonight. Hope they go with Homberg and switch for next game.
I think the team situation is the reason for all the "bring 'em all up" talk. Eiserman isn't ready yet. Either are the rest of the kids. We don't want to rush talent. We have no farm team what so ever. So I also don't want to waste our picks on a awful Bridgeport team. Risking injury in the minors with no muscle to protect them is a problem also. Look at Maggio. Everyone last year said the same thing. He's not panning out right now. So who knows. I do know we don't spend much money on players. Picks are all we have. God help us!!!!!
The real question is where will Cole get the best opportunity to get better and take the next steps in his development. The Islanders don’t have a good track record of developing young talent and we can go all the way back to the 90s and in the past haven’t had the necessary patience to properly develop their young talent. A different approach is needed to properly develop these young guys and I hope the Islanders change in the way they handle things moving forward or we can be looking at another wasted promising prospect.
Hey Gil, I'm a native of Flin Flon Manitoba as well! Awesome to hear a Gerry Hart shout out.
Not rush him? They have nothing. And even less In Bridgeport. He’ll regress losing every night in Bridgeport
Turning point of islander cup run march of 1980 the trade for Butch Goring they went from a one line team to a four line team
What is the fastest he could play? Even if they skip Bridgeport he's only a Freshman but perhaps he goes pro earlier?
Hi Gil .are you doing a show tonight ??? .HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL !!!!! LGI
Happy New Year Gil. I agree don't rush the kid as he should be a big part of the Islanders future! LGI
I've been pleasantly surprised with Danny Nelson's level of play at the 200' game. He has been given a huge responsibility to play with two elite wingers who are not very familiar with the name of their own goalie. Nelson shows nice spurts of offence too. He reminds me of Jordan Staal.
Eiserman needs some more time. If he could skate like Isaiah George, I'd say bring Eiserman up in September 26, maybe 25 depending on who they lose this year. As it stands, I think Eiserman needs a little more work on his skating to make the NHL.
Why do you think Bridgeport is such a mess? They have some very capable players down there.
The development seems to be lacking from a decade ago, where players like Hamonic, Pelech, Pulock, Mayfield were rolling out of Bridgeport.
The forward development just hasn't been there.
Holmstrom was missed on the ice today vs. Toronto.
I'd like to see Holmstrom go back with Pageau and Lee.
Put Barzal back with Horvat and Duclair.
Leaving Nelson, Palmieri and Tsyplakov a line.
Cizikas with MacLean and Fasching is fine. I wouldn't mind seeing Foudy get a shot with Cizikas and MacLean.
