  1. Kane is a winning culture player. He is virtually unique in that locker room in this respect. If you want a thumbnail for this theme try Larkin.

  2. Mclellan was a great hire and with his experience I think the Wings are bound to get back on track. They had stretches like this last season which cost them a playoff spot but Yzerman hasn't rlly made any big mistakes yet.

  3. "avoided a harsh rebuild"? theyve been mediocre for almost a decade, to me thats a long, painful and "harsh" rebuild

  4. What's nuts is as of right this second. With the win against CBJ we are 4 points out of WC2… Of course with a logjam of mid in the way. So.. its possible. Will it happen? Meh probably not but personally id be happy with a 500 team thats fun to watch.

  5. The season isn’t lost, and the relief factor is Stevie wasn’t giving up on the season. McLellan’s “Play Fooking Hockey” speech was the spark this team needed. Patty Kane’s heating up, the entire team looks totally different from whatever the hell Lalonde was preaching. They just won again tonight over the Jackets in a last minute thriller, with half a season remaining. They keep this up, spring time hockey will be back in HockeyTown. LGRW🐙

  6. Awesome video. Finally, somebody w the guts to tell it like it actually is. Hats off to Jimmy Hockey

  7. How long are the wings going to keep sebastian cossa in the ahl before he gets called up to the nhl permanently

  8. You're young and maybe don't remember it took Yzerman 14 years to win his first cup.
Ken Holland put this team in such a hole.
People got fired up about the Walman trade and then stuff comes out he play video games too much.
Culture isn't going to be born overnight and they are not just looking to get into the playoffs. They're looking to get into the playoff for the next 25 years again and bring home 3-6 cups.

There's also 32 teams now. So there's going to be 31 losers every year. Yzerman earned his right to build a team. Win or lose The Captain in the GM.

  9. We have some 3 games in a row, a great start with our new coach, I think the coach change was definitely the right decision and he is a very creative and his is a player coach, he will talk to someone if there is something wrong with how they play

  10. You really should of waited on making this video… 3 game win streak … 3-1 with new coach… Axel Sandin is going to be ELITE! Edvinsson is playing great and has a huge ceiling. Once the Wings get out of a few bad contracts they will be cup contenders for a while.

  11. There is no reason to criticize stevie at all not every guy takes a year or 2 to develop after they get drafted u are starting to see his later round steals develop nicely i mean a 7th round pick Emmitt finnie is on pace for over 100 points in the whl theres other guys as well stevie only took over in 2019 the guys from 2017 and 2018 he didnt draft that was holland stevie would of made better picks i promise you example imagine we got quin hughs instead of zadina stevie would of picked hughs these guys are still devloping once they are all on the team we will be a wagon especially in net and on defence asp i think can be a top 5 damn in the nhl and all the vets on the team wont be here when stevies drafted guy's are on the team and we are competing for cups these guys on the team right now are to fill in roster spost while the young guys develop for us everyone is so damn impatient now a days idc about making the playoffs and speeding up the rebuild to lose in round 1 every year like the leafs stevie is building this team up to contend for a decade plus not just make the playoffs to make the playoffs but to win cups look at augistine canada had what 40 shots on net he let in 1 goal cossa is unreal in the ahl jessie kisskinen who he traded for in the offseason looks very good in the liliga and has 5 points in the world juniors and 3 or 4 goals dimitri buchnikov in the khl is having a unreal season danielson has started to really pick it up in the ahl edvinsson looks unreal with seider like these guys are young still they need time to develop lombadri looks very good in the ahl too shai buiium looks good as well everyone needs to pump the breaks and guess what if we win the lottery this year and get a misa a mortone or hagins the rebuild is 100k percent done and we have our other star or superstar forward and raymond is going to get to that panarin level too i promise u hes above larkin in terms of star to superstar

  12. Do you actually watch many Red Wings games? Like the last 4 games under Todd McLellan? This is a markedly different team. Under Lalonde, the Wings would play tight defensively and if they fell behind then they panicked and all hell would break loose. A typical Wings game would be to go into the 2nd period up 2-1. Give up a goal and suddenly they are tied so the panic would set in and before you know it they would be down 6-2. And it seemed like there were always 3 or 4 goals in 5 minutes.

If there is something I am really frustrated with Yzerman, it is that he kept Blashill too long, 537 games. And let’s face facts the Wings quit on Lalonde.

My take on the Yzerplan is I wish Stevie would stop the long contracts to average players, especially on defense. Chiarot has been a disaster. Ditto Petry.

I strongly disagree about the draft picks. There are a few later-round picks like Mazur, Lombardi and Augustine. My bigger question for Yzerman is why they wait so long to bring players in? This year is an exception with 4 rookies on the team but in past years it has been 1 or 2. Are Mazur or Danielson ready for the NHL? I would like to see them try.

And why did they let Axel Sandin-Pellika go to the SHL? He currently leads all defensemen in the SHL in scoring. Could he replace what we lost when we didn’t resign Shayne Gostisbehere? I don’t know but a creative defenseman that scores a ton would help a lot.

  13. Sometimes a step back is not a step back. This year there are 4 players seeing ice time that were in GR last year: Edvinsson, Berggren, Johansson and Kasper. They did not replace guys there age, this was a necessary pruning of the line up to let some new, young growth happen. And go check in on the World Juniors and add Axel Sandin-Pelika and Tre Augustine into the discussion. In a couple years, another long playoff run will happen, for years.

Oh, and by the way, Original Six doesn't mean much as the 6 have not won a Cup in 10 years and individually, they have a Cup drought of 10 to 58 years AND Canada has a 32 year blank sheet. And fun fact: 6 of the last 8 Cup finalist come from sun belt states with low or no taxes.

  14. when you look at draft history, Holland picked Zadina over Hughes. then Cholowski, Svechnikov, and whoever else who never made it etc. so with Yzermans draft picks, yeah it set the wings back a bit just waiting for his actual picks to get older and ready. the Yzerplan is delayed because of poor management from previous. you have 1 Larkin from past 10 years of Holland who turned out fine. it sucks but time is a factor. many good prospects coming up. these shit signings of Copp, Erne, Sprong, Compher, Holl, etc are just to fill time. make the Wings not complete ass but we know we aren't gonna be good until our Yzerman picks are ready. and there are a ton coming.

  15. I don’t think drafting is the issue. We haven’t been able to get that star player through the draft because they have consistently lost the draft lottery every single year. And we’ve never once advanced in the lottery we’ve always either kept our pick or got pushed back 2 to 3 positions every time.

  16. In my opinion yes Steve hasn't lived up to the billing BUT, I also think his hands are tied at the wrist. Ownership needs to let him do his job (not saying he gets a blank check but a few with amounts filled in would be nice). The pizza king seems to think he can take it with him (the money that is) when we all know that ain't so. Spend some freekin money Chris. Let Steve do his job. He's not going to bankrupt you believe me when I say that.

  17. I've been a lifelong die hard fan of the Detroit Red Wings since i was born in 1998, i remember seeing the 2002 (more like a glimpse) 2008, 2009 Stanley Cup Finals on TV. When i joined the Navy out of high school in 2017, i still watched my wings wherever i was stationed in California and yes 2019 and 2020/2021 were excruciatingly painful seasons. When i restationed to Japan this past year (still there), watching the Wings was like waiting for miracle to happen until recently when Lalonde was fired. Now with Mclellan, I can see brighter with my hone team.

  18. Well said, everything. 👍

Drafting a superstar is not easy, however. Even if you get the first pick.

There are so many variables in putting together a championship team.

  19. Similar to buffalo. The culture stops hating to loose and people dont play as hard. Opposite would be Calgary improving on last year despite selling near everyone and being Cap floor due to their new culture. Culture has a huge impact on players under/overpreforming. Hell NYR this yr shows that as well as went from presidents to everyone underpreformig.

  20. ofc no one wants to see anyone lost their job especially if it is mid season but sometimes it's needed no question at all

  21. To your points about not drafting a star quality player and not doing a “tear-it-down” rebuild, I would actually argue the wings did completely tear it down. The only disclaimer is that Yzerman didn’t have much to “tear down” from as far as roster make up. The wings had the worst record by points percentage ever recorded in the NHL for the 2019-2020 season, and they got the 4th overall pick. They still picked the best player of that draft imo (Raymond) but my point is that the wings have been at the depths of the league and have yet to draft higher than 4th overall. They have had low success rates with picks past the first round, I give you that. But some recent later picks may become NHL regulars in due time.
