Hathaway has a reputation but he's no goon. Some years ago when he was with Calgary it was similar to this. Yanni Gourde, a much smaller player, wanted to fight Hathaway and Hathaway was backing away and saying, "I don't wanna fight you" but Gourde wouldn't let it go and ended up getting clocked. Also a similar fight I remember with Max Domi. Same happened here, except it doesn't look like Hathaway really hit him. McCabe got shook up because of the way he fell. At the same time I saw him fight Chara and Brent Burns (and lose both). He'll fight bigger guys but doesn't go after the little guys. I'm a Flames fan, which is why I remember those games.

When someone rams your goalie, and this goes especially for D men, you confront the bastard, even if hes bigger than you. Its about respect for the game. The Ref's barely help so you've got to do whats correct, so you have to deliver it yourself. The Goalie knows someones got their back and he plays accordingly. Earlier, Hathaway smooshed McCabe into the boards, we seen it as McCabe got his number as they skated away. Something was going to happen, and it did.
I think Hathaway gave McCabe "the business".

To me it looked like Hathaway's knee hit McCabe in head when they fell, not intentional but could have been lights out.

McCabe hooked and pushed Hathaway, making him hit the side of the goalie.
McCabe then pushes Hathaway into the ice, in the process falling on top of him.
After getting up McCabe goes and pushes Hathaway's head back down on the ice (Hathaway is still lying down btw).
As Hathaway gets up, McCabe pushes again and again.
Hathaway gets pissed off at that point and finally drops the gloves.
They both fall. Hathaway falls on McCabe's upper body and head.
McCabe is now injured, probably a concussion from the fall.
McCabe deserved karma for being such an a-hole, but I still wish him a speedy recovery.
