Stu ! in My humble – 2 up &down ! ( Armchair Critic ) – Keyboard Warrior ? – But can that Freakin Stash win us the big Games ?
Zero chance
Dostal is better than Gibson
the whole oilers management should fly to Montreal and find out how they keep finding these incredible new goalies re: Jakub Dobes. Now this guy is a real goalie. But as usual, oiler management will do nothing lol and keep Skinner lol
Gibson would be bad.
No wonder the oilers have trouble with cohesion, they keep adding new guys that have to settle in, then boom do it al over again. I wish they would go with the guys they have, they’re all good players so let them go and figure it out. If they trade off Jeff skinner, I’ll be mad!
If the Edmonton Oilers get rid of Kane they got major problems we have no toughness you guys no freaking toughness in this team and you want to get rid of the toughness that's coming in the playoffs you're going to get buried who cares about this John Gibson he's all washed up you guys my God
Sorry, Tyson. How did that tweet indicate any interest by the Oilers in going after Gibson? Wouldn’t Kane’s status impact whether the Oilers go after a top 6 rental forward? Gibson would bring absolutely nothing at this point in his career.
Their first need is a solid top 4 D man (left side).
I like you Tyson but I’m not even gonna entertain listening to this. This is not a deal that’s happening. How did you take that from the tweet… Be better dude.
I don't see Gibson as enough of an upgrade, and Bjugstad did very little when he was with us before.
Too many Skinners on this team anyway
Just spitballing, but I would do this…tell EVO to take the rest of the year off and he can decide on playoffs if feeling it, Get Gibby on the deal and see about Killorn for J. Skinner, Henrique, and even Perry, or Pickard, (with the agreement on Ducks eating half of Gibby’s allowance for next 2 yrs….then see if Vancouver is willing to shift Brown to their minors for Vinny D. (I hear he doesn’t get much icetime there, and have them eat a mil)…and I am sure he would lift Skin’s spirits, and add appreciable size…bring up Philp and Savoie to fill spaces and get Ryan back in his dependable faceoff position with Killorn doing what he did for Tampa…then saddle up and win cup! Just sayin’
Why would they want a struggling, aging overpaid goalie? We have picks and stu
If the Oilers can't or (as they have kind of said) won't spend on chasing big D bait, then it makes sense to stock the pond at goal. Meanwhile, do like that Bjugstad proposal.
If McDavid is going to win a cup, Skinner has to be a rock.
Pass
Gibson ain't coming here
Oilers running 3 goalies is as ridiculous as it sounds.
The Oilers medical and management teams are fully aware of where Kane is at in his recovery. Why would a team trade for a goalie when just last season the 2 they have took them to the 7th game of the Stanley cup finals. This vod is just ridiculous
Speculation and more speculation!! The fact of the matter is that there isn't any NHL GM who isn't tainted with corruption that would inform a two-bit reporter as to a team's secret plans.
Gibson? That ship sailed away a long time ago.
That's not what the tweet says. The tweet is a list of what's on his show. 1) Canucks trade market 2) What the Ducks will do with Gibson 3) how Edmonton, Nashville, and Philadelphia will navigate the next two months 4) Re-expansion to Arizona?
nope not happening, unsubbing for this, our golie tandem is set for playoffs.
There are much better choices than Gibson. We have 2 good goalies now. I can't see us adding a 3rd (with the 3rd having not great stats and the player on the wrong side of 30). Now if it was Askarov from the SJ Sharks at a low price maybe. I'd rather have 2RD, keep Kulak with Emberson, Stecher as the 7th D. I'd also love to bring up Philp for a decent stretch of games as a 4C and park a couple of others at the AHL level (yes, waivers to some vets) like Ryan and / or Perry .
Stupid decisions Oiler make
why on earth would we need a 3rd goalie. terrible take.
There seems to be confusion about the Tweet this information came from. It's not just a tweet, the Latest is a video segment Pagnotta does, and I highly encourage you to listen to it. If you think I made all this up for clicks, you're out to lunch.
I guess a 3 goalie rotation makes sense? I'm not sure. I think I'd rather add a BIG crushing enforcer on the blue line.
Gibson has the exact same GAA average as Skinner, and isnt really any better save % wise since Skinners rough start to the year (he's been solid since November onwards).
But I guess as pure goalie depth in case something happens? Sure… as long as the cost in assets isnt too bad. Def cant lose CP on waivers tho
For probably the past 5-6 years I've wanted and waited and prayed that the Oilers would land an elite goaltender. We have scoring power in the top 2 lines and while depth is also a concern, it's not nearly as important as a goalie in my opinion. I see other Teams with spectacular goalies and I often think on how far we could go with someone who keeps the puck out of the net. It's fine to say that Skinner and Pickard are "just enough", but we wouldn't do that with any other position, so why that? I think defence becomes less important or not as important if you have an amazing goalie between the pipes. We have some decent enough defence where it would ease up some pressure off the blue line and allow more trust that those extra bobbles stay outside the net. I think Gibson is too old. While he may be playing well, we should be going after someone more long term and not a rental just to get us far into the playoffs.
I've been an Oiler fan since their WHA days in the 70s. I've ridden the highs of the 80s and 90s and suffered during the decade+ of darkness.
All that said, I've never seen an Oiler team like the one we have today. I am not sure how any team can be considered a Cup contender when they rank 32nd in hits per game. The other day they had a total of 3 hits in the game, one by Nurse I think and two buy Podkolzin. You can put an egg in ever players pocket before the game and only 2, maybe 3 players will have a broken egg at the end of the game. The Oil will get battered beyond belief in the first and second round (if they get to the second that is) buy the bruising efforts of both LA and Vegas. If they somehow manage to get to the third, the Jets may await and they do love to hit.
So…what do the Oilers need? Certainly not another aging goalie whose best before date has long expired. Does anyone think he's a better alternative than Picard who has a 9-4 record with a 2.89 GAA? He's performed admirably this year (and last) and deserves #2 goalie status. This team needs a healthy Kane who can bring some aggression to the forward ranks AND they need to put together a 4th line that will make the oppositions D play with their heads on a swivel looking for absorb that next punishing hit. Also, some youthful enthusiasm to help motivate some of our aging players to help them keep up with the pace a bit. The Oil can't afford to have a slow player like Ryan as a 4th liner, the only thing he's brought this year is a very good faceoff percentage. Janmark brings speed sure, but hands of stone and puck luck to match. I'd keep Perry even though he is slow, he still gets his clutch goals and assists and I'm sure he'd still bring it hard in the playoffs. Skinner…Skinner…done like dinner I think. Sit him down and ask him to waive his no trade and ship him to a contender in the East, he's got 4 weeks to show that he is the player worthy of a 3m contract, otherwise let him know, "waive the no trade or be prepared to be a permanent fixture in the press box". Last but not least…a 2-3 d-man who plays with an edge…nothing fancy, just a guy who the other team's forwards don't want to meet in the corners or stand with in front of the net.
That's it…that's what we need (imho of course)…we need all that and 2 more goals than we got in last years game 7 finals.
Go Oil!!
What happens if Stu goes down it would be nice to have Gibson but I think they should pass if Kane can just wait til playoffs and if they move Jeff skinner that’s like 8 mil cap space at deadline
Would be much more beneficial if the Oilers would actually invest in a pro scout who specializes in Goaltenders and a proper goalie coach. The Oilers have never developed a top tier goalie and Fuhr was never top tier.
Has anybody ever sat and said to themselves…
John Gibson’s been asking for a trade for like what? 3 years now? We’ve seen SEVERAL teams in DESPERATE NEED of goaltending yet he’s still in Anaheim…
That should lead you to the answer
I'd prefer it if we could get Ryan O'Reilly out of Nashville. That is the kind of two way forward the Oilers need to help us in the playoffs.
If Ducks retain, Gibson becomes an absolute bargain at 3.2m for the next 2.5 years. For those of you saying he's old, he's 31. For those of you saying he's washed, he has a .914 save% on a bad team. I'm not sayin it makes sense for Edmonton to run with 3 goalies. But if the Ducks eat half Gibson will have plenty of interest around the league. Trade him to a good team and watch him thrive with new energy. He's the type of talent that can win you a cup and he's no rental.
