  1. Baseball at this time of the year, for me is reawakening. As a Pirate fan my reason to get excited is the pitching staff. Bubba Chandler does bring some optimism for hope for team. It would seem he just needs to stay on track in February and he'll be going to Miami to start the campaign.

Barney Dreyfuss is the father of MLB in Pittsburgh. He had courage and daring in his intentions. He knew talent when he saw it. His player/manager Fred Clarke showed that same daring when he picked Babe Adams to start game 1 of the 1909 WS against Ty Cobb's Tigers. The results spoke for themselves.

  2. Chandler isn't out of Clemson, he was drafted out of high school. He was committed to Clemson (for football).

  3. The competitive edge you talk about is, I believe, inherent in the character of Pittsburgh and Pittsburghers. It probably stems from the tough immigrants, steelworkers, coalminers, who had to fight so hard to survive in a new country and who had a chip on their shoulders about being perceived as less than others. I know I got a little piece of that. Doesn't appear that nutting and his management have it at all.

  4. The Pirates can have a rotation of Skenes, Jones, Keller, Chandler, Solometo, Harrington, Ashcraft, and still lose 1-0 games. No offense, no playoffs!

  5. Great topic on Barney Dreyfuss. We're in a time now, where at least two generations, have no idea what the Pirates were like, winning World Series. 3 in 19 years. Winning multiple division titles, etc. All the younger generation have now, is stories from the elders; many of whom were young when the Bucs last went to, and won the WS in 1979. Nutting is a heinous fool, who needs to be run out of town!

  6. Thank you DK. A pitcher like Paul Skenes is one in a million. Not happening or how long will it take. They need a couple big bats, Moving the furniture in the room, doesn't change the room. Great show and memory DK

  7. DK, We've heard absolutely nothing linking Roki Sasaki as a potential free agent for the Pirates, did they even submit a video to him or show interest as far as you know? He's stated he wants to go w a small market team, and to learn next to Paul Skenes for the next 4 years should be a selling point. and he's cheap, a Nutting dream!

  8. Five years… two "feathers". Ugh.

Cherington & Pirates Ops are every bit as pathetic as the previous mgmt. regimes.
