Love him and going to miss him. The thing I won’t miss is not knowing which Mikko will show up. Clutch Mikko or turnover Mikko. It just seemed, at times, that Mikko was on his own page.
I'm an avs fan and I'm happy with the trade. I loved mikko but truth is he frequently gave the puck away in the offensive zone, he put little effort in back checking and he didn't seem to be a true power forward. I always wanted him to be in front of the net more often but he would float out to the circles and then without to much pressure would give the puck away. Good luck to mikko but i think necas is going to be an awesome fit. And with Drury we have a guy who can win faceoffs in key situations. Now we just need to get rid of the wee man girard for a bigger, grittier d-man and we are set.
I have felt like there was something going on in the locker room lately, and i wonder if this was it. After the Jets game, I think the guys knew. Cale's interview after that game seemed like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. Just seemed like more was going on behind the scenes.
It was good to actually see Nate do an interview after the last two games. He hasn't done that in weeks.
Only time will tell if this trade was successful. McFarland is really putting his head on the chopping block here. If this goes well, all will be forgotten (maybe not forgiven, but forgotten temporarily😜), but if it goes badly, it could cost him his job. 🤷
Seeing Mikko in a Carolina jersey was like seeing Forsberg in a Flyers jersey some 20 or so years ago. It took a long time getting over losing Forsberg for me, but I will get over this move. Time to stop the disscusion and move on. I think the Avs will be a better team once Necas and Drury become adjusted to playing with the Avs.
Just luck at the Garden – just luck nothing else.
Mikko will not have a problem to find a team that will sign him for $14M. I bet, Makar will not sign for $11.75M either – so he will be the next getting axed by an incompetent GM, who gets the title as ‘Worst in NHL history.’
I think the Avs didn’t want to become like Toronto a three top Heavy team that always gets bounce in the first round, all 4 lines need to be dangerous

COL was fortunate to get two points vs NYR. HD, XGF, etc all controlled by NYR. Corsi was a mixed bag. Blackie is the real story. Third line, Wood-Drury-Colton, was a train wreck giving up 8 HD and 14 Corsi. Loved the Drury goal but the line was bad. Wood and Colton will have to learn to play with C Drury who is a D first mind set.
I was in my late 40’s when I watched the Avalanche back in the 90’s it was 1996 when I got hooked on hockey it was the best thing I love it. Forsberg was my favorite player on the team my son like Sakic. I had my son in the hockey team in our city we loved the atmosphere. I loved Mikko this broke my heart to see this happened. I wish Mikko the best I don’t like how this franchise works but it makes me sad to have top player leave.

BTW, the post game with Mac was cringe. His diction and demeanor are middling at best. I get he is a pro athlete but he will never be captain.

Most will hate to admit it but, the Avs are a more balanced Team after this trade. Necas is a 200ft Player and faster than Mikko. Also, what a 180° turn on the look of the Powerplay!! Drury is a better version of Sturm with the same Faceoff ability. It hurt but I'm already over it and looking forward 💪 LFGA💪💪
Give Makar the C now even if Landeskog is coming back. Leadership from the point is the optimal path to playoff success in 2025. 🧩
I agree that there’s a good chance this decision was not about Mikko’s contract numbers but that paying three superstars what they are worth will not be a winning formula. This trade does open up money to rent sign Drouin at least.
Will see how the trade works out if the Avalanche are a success in the playoffs give the trade a final grade Mikko Rantanen is a top goal scorer you need them going against top goalies in the NHL he was weak on defense

Mikko is a good sniper and an expert at empty net goals, and physically he is strong. However, I always thought that he was a bit slow and seems to spend a lot of time falling down on the ice. I noticed an immediate difference in the Avs offense when Necas is in there, because he is very fast and moves a lot, providing an outlet pass opportunity that Mikko doesn't provide. Only time will tell if this was a good or bad move.
I am going against the grain. I like the trade. I have been getting sick of Miko's lazyness and the fact that's he's not that strong on his skates. He falls anytime anyone really challenges him then looses the puck. This Necas kid looks super skilled and plays all 200 feet of the ice. Just needs to work on team chemistry. He has only gotten better every season he has played.
I think Carolina thinks that Mikko is going to be a Batman, put in Co is was a Robin, it’s going to be interesting if he can rise to the occasion and be a Batman, I think Carolina is taking a bigger chance
While as a fan of Mikko, I am inclined to believe him, I think it is likely that we will never truly know the reality of what was said behind closed doors. Moving forward everyone from the organization, to mikko's agent, to Mikko himself will be trying to save face for the fans.
Regardless of what was said or wasnt said, obviously, neither party was that eager to get an extension done. Andy scott is Mikko's Agent. He is also Blackwood's Agent, and obviously blackwood signed his extension, so it might be more likely then not that it was more of a contract dispute and money issue then a "want" to return as being the problem.
I hate seeing him go, I love the guy, he felt like a core piece, and I wouldnt have considered him the problem for our team. (looking at coaching for that) But its already done. If Mikko really wants to hold true to his words about resigning and wanting to be here. I suppose he could decline an extension with Carolina, and go to market and then get signed by the avs again. Though, i wouldnt blame him if not, after all, the team let him go…
