About drafting: NYR is in the same boat, just cant develop their talent for some reason. Question: When did Habs draft elite players? Its back to the 80's or something so I am not sure its TT, but could be part of it. They must learn how ro develop players too imo (the biggest problem they have).

that drafting thing is gonna be the thing that really sinks the habs frankly. They have drafted what 0 players in the first round since price, It was the thing that sank my leafs for the longest time too, it ruins your teams future, the leafs have 6 of their 1st round picks from 2012 to 2018 playing for the team the only one not playing for the team is Frederik Gauthier, its been the single greatest factor to the leafs dcore going from the worst in the league, to a probable top 15-10 in the league, they drafted 4 of their 7 defensemen, 29th 17th 34th and 5th over the last 9 years, amd then their top 4 has 3 of their first round picks in Willy as an 8th overall, Mitch as a 4th overall and then Auston as 1st overall, now i know the habs havent had a 1st overall pick but they have had 2 3rds and a 9th over that same 7 year stretch. Its what is killing this team because none of those picks are still with the team, Sergachev is a top 4 great Dman in Tampa, Galch is a plug in Arizona and KK is having a great time being a great supporting piece on a nearly undefeated team. The habs lose before they even hit the ice some nights because they havnt drafted well.
Worst pk in the league, passive , just allow the opposition set up good a scoring chances . Power play has become way to predictable. Defensive zone coverage is a complete train wreck, running around, losing almost every puck battle. For me this falls on the coaching, breakouts seem to be fire the puck up the boards to no one, or flip it out to no one. What happened to making a short crisp pass to center ? This team has become easy to play against , something needs to change
The D needs retooling or a new coach. The pp hasn't been good for year's, the PK also. The problems with this team have pretty much been the same problems for a number of years now.
I agree Caufield should just be allowed to play hockey and not have to worry about social media stuff.. but I really don't think it was as bad as people made it out to be. If that is an issue, playing in Montreal long term is going to be a REAL issue unfortunately.
To me once again the Canadiens have really underestimated Danault's value to the habs, he may not score but he does a lot of other things very well, at most Danault he's going to get you around 10 to 15 goals per season but he does get a lot of assists and his best linemates with the Canadiens were Gallagher and Tatar and he really insulated Suzuki backing him up as the second line center. Danault is the best defensive center/ forward in the league better than Patrice Bergeron for example whose also elite in that aspect but Bergeron is the better two way player and overall player, there is no denying that for sure. To me Danault is a unique player a player who could really dominate without scoring because of what he does defensively but he does gets others to score if he can't score, even Pacioretty a former habs player who had very high praise for him.
One thing for sure it was a disastrous off season for the habs when I really think about it because of the departures of Danault, Tatar, Kothieniemi and Perry no doubt..
To me I strike Ducharme more as an assistant coach not a head coach, Joel Bouchard is more head coaching material but he's no longer part of the habs organization as the Laval Rockets head coach. Bouchard is a tough head coach but it's not just that.
