It is a shame the Devils could not, did not bring back Kirk Muller to end his career with us. My favorite Devils team was the 2000 team because Slava Fetisov was an assistant coach for us. As much as I love the 1995 team I felt so horrible or Slava who was a Red Wing. You could see it in the handshake line, any Devils and trainers were hugging Slava because he was in years. Slava deserved to be on the 1995 time not Daneyko. It will always piss me off that we had to trade Slava because Daneyko and his damn drinking and drug problem.

One of the things that is so awesome about this is the way the last 5 minutes the script is written. As a Devils fan now being 2019 and a new birth happening, they became the most successful franchise in the Eastern Conference until the Penguins and Crosby began their run and still the Devils were successful getting to a cup in 2012. Honestly, I know it sucks to say but yeah they made the playoffs last and this is a letdown season but that is more than okay. Why? We might have just surprisingly found our goalie of the future in Blackwood, Nico and Jesper continue to get better and grow and if we could get (OMG) get another first pick overall? This kid is generational. talent to go long with Nico, Jesper and re-sign Hall. Also maybe bring back Larsson where he was comfortable to add to Butcher???
The Devils are my favorite professional sports team and being 30 years old I've seen the "glory days" of Devils hockey (I remember going to all the celebrations after the Cup wins in the parking lot of Brendan Byrne Arena/Continental Airlines Arena and loving every minute of the fun. I have vivid memories of the Devils coming back and beating the Flyers, staying up late to see Arnott's 2nd OT game winning goal (Larry Robinson wearing Sykora's jersey), how Jeff Friesen redeemed himself in game 7 against the Sens, and how Broduer SHOULD have won the Conn Smythe against the Ducks. But the early years aren't engrained in my memory. I've seen Johnny Mac's playoff clinching goal enough times but haven't experienced a lot of the other great things pre cup years of the team (and the not so great things). This video is awesome. FYI: Chico had to ask for the drink of water because at that time water bottles were not allowed on top of the net. In 84 the water bottle on top of the net was permitted

My other favorite team other than the NJD (and affiliates) are the CSKA RED ARMY MOSCOW and Red Machine (CCCP/NATIONAL TEAM) getting the BEST D pair for a decade….off the Green Unit/KLM line with Fetisov and Kasatonov was a master stroke..,..to this day I still say the greatest line in hockey history.
This was so enjoyable to watch. I've been a fan since their move to NJ and watching this reminds me of how many great players have worn their jersey. That '88 team was really something special and helped turn the franchise around but no single player did more for legitimizing the franchise like the acquistion of Scottie Stevens. That's when the Devils had finally arrived. Then the addition of Claude Lemieux made the team a real cup contender.
