Unless a team is rebuilding, you can’t give a whole bunch of nothing to get something. The Leafs can’t bet on the Sabres to be the worst organization in the history of this sport and get Cozens for useless piece #1, #2, #3 and bad draft capital on bad draft capital. Also, every prospect that barely touched NHL ice in multiple potential season since their draft year have very limited value (again, unless rebuilding or trading prospects only).

The leafs can't afford anyone with term so Schenn and Cozens are off the table. This discussion is a waste of time. Laughton is a great option that the cap hit isn't a impossible move. 2/3 of the season is done, Patch-Kampf-Lorentz should be the 4th line. Idk if Domi should even be on this team, the 3rd line needs a complete overhaul.

Trade Matthews for Crosby. Austin is not worth the money and the Leafs need a Canadian for a captain. Austin can go hang out with Bieber. Dobson — having a terrible year and will cost a bundle. And then more to resign if he is not just a rental. The Leafs already have an overpaid defender underperforming on offence who has a history of being an unreliable defender in his own end. Do they need another one??
Cozins — having another down year offensively. After having a down year after having a previous down year the season before. He costs $7.1 mil per season and will cost a bundle because he is 23. For what he is producing this year you could pick up JP Pageau and save a bundle cuz you know he will be available on the cheap.
Cozen seems to be getting overrated now. It's a risky trade to make with that contract.

I read the same article Adam is referencing with Nelson & Dobson. Brought up a handful of points where that is now the motive. Mainly they like Nelson and he likes them. They have won and done it at a high rate with him out of the lineup this year, they have depth on d. He nets a huge return for them trying to look for scoring in their forward group. He hasnt taken the necessary strides defensively and his scoring is down this year, hes due for a new contract next season.
I dont watch the Islanders so i cant say how Dobson has looked this year. Not an impossible thing to believe following the trades that just happened
Dylan Cozens is starting to look like a failed pick. He had a 31 goal 68 point season. Last year 18 goals 47 points. This year he has 11 goals and 26 points in 55 games. Was the 30 goal season the aberration. That said, he's a former 7th overall pick who scored 30 goals once, and makes $7.1 million for six more years. Who you trading that Buffalo wants and who you trading to cover that cap hit? Tavares and a first. It's just crazy.
Domi Kampf and McMann make the salary work. Would you want Kampf, Domi and McMann if you were Buffalo? Maybe if you throw in a prospect or a second round pick.
Dylan cozens is the type of player you win with. He's excelled in games for team canada and was a massive reason the sabres missed by 1 point 2 years ago. The problem is the pedigree of his will never be seen in Buffalo.
Cozens would be perfect for us. The right age, skilled, size and speed to stick with the team for years to come. That is the type of player you go all in for (same goes for a young dman like Dobson) but I don't think the Sabres want to trade with us. Even if they do, I doubt BT or Shanny have the balls. "Everything is on the table" was a total joke.

as a Sabres fan yes the Sabres suck but they've tried different line combos for Cozens and none have worked. Kulich comes in this year and has just as many goals as cozens. It's like a stock, do you hope he gets better or trade him now in case he doesn't
