Once they get knocked out in round 1, expectations will have been met.
Have The Maple Leafs Lived Up To Expectations This Season? Absolutely not. Money kids do not show up consistently and the team is notorious for slow starts. IMO too much stardom and not enough team pride. Why is Domi still on the ream? Journeymen team members give more effort than the 20 minute players. Financially not a good return on investment. Goalies are saving their butts.

Yes they are on track to either not make the playoffs or get knocked out in the 1st round exactly as I expected.
Every one knew this Core 4 plan would never work but hey lets run it back again because that is NOT the definiton of insanity!

There are 17 defense making less money then Rielly and have more points and play MUCH better.
That does not include the 10 or so more players within 500k of Riellys 7.5M that are way better defense.

As a Bruins fan, the leafs have all the right things in place to replicate a 2002 run. Or a ‘99/‘93 run. But they need to execute. But the big issue that I see again, that hasn’t changed; is that the Leafs have 5-6 players that score 75% of their goals. They don’t have balanced scoring which you gotta have more than one line going to produce in the playoffs. That’s a problem.
Toronto needs a Matt Duchene or a Michael Ryder or a Brent Seabrook. Guys that aren’t afraid and chip away each shift at a time. If Toronto doesn’t do this, then expect the same result as last year. Or a short 2’nd rd stint as 2023 was.
I think it was a good game because it exposed issues that they have time to address before the end of the season – or use to prepare for the post season, IMO.
Wait? What? The Leaf have finished at the top of their standings (whether Adams, Norris, Canadian division, Original Six, pre-Original Six or whatever it was in their history) six times ever. SIX! That's not possible. I had to look it up. Yep. And to make it worse, two of those took place since 1938. In 87 years, the Leaf have won TWO! division titles. That is a more amazing stat than anything else regarding Leaf ineptitude.

Adam needs to look at playoff stats before he mentions a player stepping up. Jarnkrok has 5 goals in his 93 playoff games, he is a ghost offensively come playoff hockey. His leaf stats are 1 goal in 18 games.
