The problem for the other big sports in North America is that there's almost no international competition. There's no other country that could compete with the US in either basketball or American football. Baseball might be able to, but do people really watch baseball anymore? Hockey can put on a legit 6 country (if you include Russia and Czechia) best on best tourney made up exclusively NHL players and make it competitive from top to bottom. Sure, the US and Canada will still be favorites, but they'll have to show up every game and fight for it.

  2. The tournament was too long. I prefer a weekend event or 1 week minimum. Is it good for basketball if the same team wins the championship every year? I think I'll skip this event next year, if they do it again. The booing of the US anthem, that horrible Canadien anthem rendition in the final game, the exclusion of good players from the tournament (Russians). I was initially pretty stoked, but as the tournament dragged on and the outcome became predictable, my interest and distaste for the whole event changed. If Canada is just going to win every time they do this, what is the point? To get them to play harder? Do we want players to injure themselves before returning to the regular season? Disappointing outcome.

  3. This was such a game changer for hockey and how it is looked at.

When you have NBA players walking in with the sweaters of NHL players that just melted my heart.

    I want more of this.

And now lets make the ladies hockey more marketable😊

  4. The Canadians might have had the better top end talent but the Americans easily had the depth, offensively and defensively

  5. As for Devon Toews, he's like a blue collar guy of the highest echelon imaginable. What keeps me back from giving him an A is the leadership issue: we kinda expected him to take on the role more; maybe even wear C on the jersey. Still, he's a great player and one of the cornerstones for the Avs.

  6. I loved the tournament! But not going to lie, every time one of the Avs boys did something that looked risky, I started to sweat a little. The Avs can’t afford another injury right now! I also loved that it gave fans the opportunity to celebrate players they normally wouldn’t. I loved cheering on Hellebuyck for once. Just hope that our boys bring the momentum of the win back home! Nate winning tournament MVP was cool too! The only thing I hated was how political it got. Next time, let’s leave politics out of it, ya?

  7. Shaggy, seems like our thoughts with our teams and how we see things are in sync. All your feelings are my feels on this whole thing. It was great and it was disappointment but in a good way.

  8. I have been saying, Canada can have this trophy. The USA can now be fired up for winning in the Olympics next year. 😁.
Also, I'm not a fan of McDavid. He can have this trophy, but not Lord Stanley. 😜

  9. Instead of 'Nations' make it 'Regions', then you can have Russians without offending anyone. Not having all the best players in this little festival made it kitchy for me. Central Europe would allow: Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Czechia, Slovakia, Latvia, etc.

  10. All our guys did amazing, Toews was a beast, Makar made so many major plays including on the game winner, Mac was the MVP from game fucking 1.

McCupless was invisible for most of the game so of course he gets the golden goal so now people will forget he once again was barely their in a major game.

Will never braise Biggoton and will still say they should've taken Thompson, Kuemper and Blackwood. But still 1 biggot winning vs a nation of them, it's a fair trade.

  11. I laughed when the announcers said there was going to have to be an international incident for there to be a penalty called in overtime. Honestly though the whole tournament was light on penalties, for the most part; because great players generally play clean, or because they chose to overlook some malfeasance? Probably both. Hate to say anything nice about Binnington but he was the MVP of that game, not McDavid.

  12. I hate that McDavid got the winner goal, because now all anyone can talk about is how great his is. hello, who won the MVP……

  13. My wife and son jumped off the couch when McDavid scored. I shouted a naughty word because I thought for sure they'd give McDavid the MVP for that. Anyway, my son and I are leaving from the Mississippi coast this afternoon and heading to Nashville. We're driving to St Louis for the back to back after tomorrow afternoon's game. My son has his MVP Nate Dogg 4 Nations jersey and is pumped. Go Avs!

  14. Disappointed that the US could not get the win. I would like to see the NHL keep the tourney to 4 nations. Top 3 stay, and lowest team gets replaced for the next one. Keeps some level of intensity to prevent relegation

  15. Makar from Calgary. Got it done when it mattered most. Mackinnon was MacKinnon. Devon Toews was a nice surprise, him and Makar shut down the best in the world

  16. Both teams went all in and while it wasn’t the result I wanted the tournament as a whole was so good for hockey. It felt so wrong to go against the Avalanche players I was so proud of all of them. I was never a fan of the Tkachuk brothers until now but they truly just love hockey and represented the USA proudly. I’ll definitely be waiting for the next best on best.

  17. The PWHL is missing something. I can't quite put my finger in it. It's just not the same as woman's tennis.
