Jones is too old for the Habs. When the Habs will be contending for the cup (3-4 years) he will be 33 to 34. The Habs need a right shot d-man that is in his mid twenty's. That is Noah Dobson. The Habs should give Mailloux, Laine and a first (Flames or even Habs).
I'd let him go for nothing if I didn't have to retain anything.

I highly doubt Yzerman has seriously inquired about Jones. The market value on Jones is $4.9 mil a year, and he makes double that for the rest of this decade. With the Wings cup window looking like it might open in the next couple seasons, that albatross contract is not what pushes a team like that over the top. It's the kind of move that prevents it.
I'm sure this is just speculation leaked by Jones agent to force Chicago to trade him, since there is no trade where they win. Guy can't put up points with Bedard and all that power play time? No way this guy returns futures unless Chi retains well over 1/3rd.

I’d rather see them take a swing at Rantanen since there’s been stories about the canes possibly flipping him. His value couldn’t be lower considering the start he’s had there. Doesn’t exactly solve the wings defense issue, but I definitely don’t want Jones. If Chicago retains 50%, maybe. But then I’d assume they’d want a lot more in return than Jones is worth. Not worth the hassle. Find a solid, physical top 4 defenseman who can play the right side and help edvinsson develop. I’d love Ryan Lindgren, but again, what’s the price gonna be? Who knows. Glad I’m not Steve Y when there’s decisions like these looming.
