It’s an unfortunate play. That’s all. Nelson kinda shoves but that’s a light call you don’t want to enforce if you wanna make it off the ice. Even with that, the force is not the cause of the incident. I disagree with the penalty as it wouldn’t have been called real time, and highly doubt it would even be looked at if the gate did not open.
A completely unnecessary, dangerous hit, from an Islanders player that could see his teammate opening the door … should result in a game ejection and a multiple game suspension. And did I mention the several missed offsides calls in the first period?
Simple solution: The doors can only be opened in between whistles, or when the puck is below the goal line, like when a defenseman is holding the puck and waiting for a line change. These guys can swing a leg over the boards to get off, not that hard. It seems like there's a close call like this about once a year and someday it could be career ending.
I remember Brock Boeser was hit into an open door by Cal Clutterbuck in 2018. If I remember correctly he ended up getting back surgery, Hopefully Mathew Poitras's injury isn't that serious.
Took a second, but after seeing the clip at 2:28 its pretty clear he wasn't looking to his left and was opening the door for the incoming player number 10 getting off the ice and opened the door for him. Truly just bad timing. This wasn't malicious from the Goalie. Cant say the same about Nelson…
This rarely happens but I have often seen very similar moments when players could've been hurt intentionally or not. I always thought the doors should only be opened by the players who get off the ice and that the mechanism should only be activated when a soft pressure is applied so the players who get checked on it wouldn't open it. When I used to play I would never go through those damn doors, I'd get over the boards next to it and just put my legs over the door while crossing. I always hated those damn doors, they always seemed dangerous to me. Often times players would be so frantic while playing, in the heat of the moment they'd sometimes forget to lock it back!
oh mah fucking god! That looked horrible. Honestly, that's likely a wrap on his season. That looked brutal. Definitely not a major, but interference is probably fair and probably necessary just to keep the peace between the two squads. Man alive, that second replay was devastating just to watch.

That goalie should get a suspension
Goalie opens the door when the player is still like ten feet away, good job bud 👍🏼
Who else other than “old as fuck doesn’t belong on team USA” Brock Nelson
The goalie didn’t see Matt Poitras but Nelson sure did and crosschecked him anyway
Overrated Bruins Lose again and Massachusetts is a Loser Blue State.
The goalie did nothing wrong.
The contact has been legal, and Nelson should not get penalty.
Brutal
Da Goalie der should go to da box and feel shame
Suspend that guy. Douche move!
I despise the Bruins but I agree with the penalty call.
that sure looks like it was done on purpose
i hope it wasnt but nelson had no reason to shove him
good god these hockey talking heads are idiots

Sh!tty timing, but just a fluke play…hope the kid is okay. Not much protection in the abdominal area.
I can say I have never seen this before just a wired play
that towel is cutting off the circulation to his brain

when it rains it pours
10 game suspension to the Islanders goalie for intent to injure
I see a fine or suspension for Nelson
Dirty play by Brock Nelson and the Islander bench. 100% intentional.

the back up goalie should have been gone for 5

Doorknob goalie
The Bruins used to fight people in the stands. Now they wont even fight a guy intentionally injuring their player? Goodbye NHL. 😢
