Nashville over-stepped when it came to either the AAV or the term. Stamkos can still be an asset when attached to solid playmakers as a shot on a left circle, but he's not a guy who can carry play by himself anymore. Nashville has a glaring lack of playmaking centers, as well, which makes the issue worse.
Wasn't this because Chris Ilitch didn't respond when Stammer asked Stevie to match the 4 years Nashville offered? Forcing us to sign Taresenko instead? I'd still like him on the team. Maybe a change of scenery would help? Or am I wishful thinking?
Stammer would have been better here than in NSH. Sucks we ended up with Tarasenko
As a big Stamkos fan I might be biased but he could still hit 30 goals in a season with the right pieces around him. Instead of getting a playmaker or even just a decent center Trotz decided to sign marchessault and stamkos who are both right shot snipers to go with forsberg who is guess what a right shot sniper. Too many guys who do the same thing was never going to work. In addition to that Andrew Brunette sucks as a coach.
Yzerman could try to get him now with salary retained
A couple of points mostly directed at the younger fans here. Stamkos, for his entire career has always played with one of the best playmakers in the league. When he came into the league he played with Martin St. Louis and then Kucherov for a decade. Look at Nashville’s lineup and you won’t find any similar talent.
Secondly, Stamkos hasn’t really been a center for many seasons. Taking a draw in certain situations really doesn’t make him a true C. He would be a winger in Detroit, even if it meant he takes the draws and slide over during play.
Tarasenko-Stamkos-Kane would be horrible in 2025. Honestly, I could see Stamkos on this team but I don’t see how you can have Kane and Stamkos both in your top six, as well as DeBrincat.
And as always, a pleasant reminder that Larkin is a 2C. He’s not nearly the playmaker of Kucherov or MSL. He’s not even a better center than Point. Stamkos’ numbers were always going to drop unless he signed a sweetheart deal in Colorado, Toronto or Edmonton.
I think it’s worth a shot. Package Tarasenko, one of the terrible D and a B prospect and Nashville might even retain.
If Stevie would have signed Stamkos and Tarasenko, we would have demanded his resignation by now.
I would say that with not being "the guy," and if he was the 2nd or 3rd line center he would have been OK. I think there was an expectation in Nashville that he'd bring that production and veteranship to the team.. there may have been more pressure than was warranted.
Most of not all the big free agent signings from last year are not looking great, the 3 from Nashville, the 2 from boston, seattle had two big signing and so far only one of them seem worth it
Stamkos to Toronto alongside Marner could be very dynamic. That would allow the Leafs to trade away someone else for other needed assets.
to det stamkos 40 percent retained to nash Justin holl and 3rd round pick
