It’s admirable to be optimistic but then there’s reality. This is a team that has had Palat playing on its top line for the majority of the season. No disrespect to the man but what contending team is doing this? They hit a high water mark for two weeks in December which brought false hope to the fanbase. Warning signs were evident right from the drop of preseason. This just isn’t a well built team.
I would gladly give the Dev’s JT Miller if I could. I want the Rangers to go into a full rebuild and did not want Miller in the first place.
Maybe the situation we are in would make the team work and play extra hard to stay in it. But that’s me being optimistic

If there was no such thing as bad luck, we’d have no luck at all. It’s mind boggling, we get Markstrom back figuring maybe we can right the ship and then Jack gets hurt.. We are so screwed!

What a sad game. Another one that was well played, we just couldn't finish. Fitz will use this as an excuse to stay put and deny the reality. 2023 was the fake year. If he had gone out to get some scorers, maybe this game is different. Maybe jack isn't stuck in that situation. If Jack is out for a week or two and fitz acts now, I believe in this season. If jack is out for any longer and fitz uses it as an excuse, he needs to go and we need to rebuild/retool. Please provide your thoughts.
MoneyPuck still has us with a 90% chance of making the playoffs, crazy. I dont believe that but defense and goaltending gives us a chance to win every night so I still have a little hope that we make it. Make it or not, without jack we're not doing anything there which is devastating, especially since we know what this team was capable of before Christmas . That team was a true contender.
Even with Jack we struggle to score, can you imagine how bad its gonna be without him?
Jacks injury is depressing, without him I don’t think we are making the playoffs. Was really hoping he’d make it thru a full season healthy, poor kid, hope it’s not as bad as it looked. As for the game we played great for 2 periods and everything went downhill with the penalties.
Don’t agree with throwing in the towel. Fitz needs to double down and save his own job. This team and organization needs to make the playoffs.
Kyrou is supposedly on the block from ST. LOUIS. Nemec or Casey is a good starting point. We have the pieces to make that happen. Fitz just most likely not willing to pull the trigger. Unfortunately he needs to realize there might not be a future for him….so he must go big now with Jack being out. Top 6 Palat and Mercer will not get it done.
If Fitz is going to make trades maybe it should be for long term solutions if they are available, not rentals just for the sake of it. I really hope jack's injury isn't that serious but it didn't look good at all,he's young and having these injuries early on his career must be devastating for him too cuz it can have long term effects
Now's the time to treat Timo like they did in San Jose and put him on the right side. Let him become the offensive star of the team, like he's capable of. To keep him on the left side at this time would be pure stupidity. And if that's what continues, then you know the analytics geeks are running this franchise and common sense is out the window.
Us fans really went from cup winning aspirations during the summer, to hoping a hold down M2 in January, and now to hoping but not optimistic about making the playoffs at all. I wish I was making this up…
This is pretty much the story of the season, good enough to beat the not so good teams, but bad enough to lose to the good teams. The top six needs a retool, palat and mercer are bottom six guys, not top six. Our top six needs some more net crashers.
Jack separated shoulder… misses rest of season and most of playoffs, if we make them .

I get the feeling Fitz may have waited too long to do something in-season … again. Although, that's a whole different issue from Jack's injury.

They are so damn small compared to good Western Conference teams. The longer those games go on, the less and less likely we are to win. Timo, Hischier and Mercer looked really good together. Only positive.

Refs terrible again, but whatever, Jacks injury is more of the same of injuries that seem far too similiar to so many he's had. I dont know if this will finally get him to put more muscle mass on to insolate himself, but it better
0% on the power play is horrendous for the team that had the best power play in the league at one point this year! Wasted scoring chances and not holding onto the puck long enough! That goal the other night off a Luke Hughes rebound was because he held onto the puck with confidence and made some sick moves! If this team plays that way every game we’d be unbeatable but they get besides themselves and let their opponents dictate how the game is played depending how good or bad the team is! And we have been allowing bad teams to feel overconfident about themselves and their gameplay also! This team should be battling Washington for the #1 spot! We have 3 great lines but a trash 4th line! That’ll get you to the dance but out of the first or second round! We have excellent goaltending so there’s really no excuse to be losing like this! This has to fall on the coach and his preparation! I don’t feel any sense of urgency or fear of this coach from these players like this team feared Jacques Lemaire Larry Robinson and Pat Burns when we won those Cups!
Dam to be honest I’m glad is alive after that it I saw some angles where he went limp he was def knocked out for a second. Just gotta hope it’s a separated shoulder and he’s back for the playoffs
IF we do trade for someone, they better be a shooter. If I have to listen to Daneyko say “I’d like to see XXXX shoot there instead of pass.” I’m going to lose my mind. It happens multiple times every game.
The only thing I can say about our 2022 team vs last year and this year. Is the playbook out on us? Does every team in the league know how to shut us down? That’s a legitimate question. If that’s the case, and even bottom dwelling teams like San Jose can shut us down that’s a major problem.
One game left on their road trip and that's tomorrow against the Stars in Dallas. Good news: Markstrom's back. Bad news: Jack Hughes is gonna be out! This means if the Devils do get in the playoffs, they'll probably lose the first round to either the defending champion Florida Panthers or Toronto Maple Leafs in 5 games and season over following that.
There are 5-6 "heavy" teams in the NHL, among which are Vegas, Florida, the Avs, and the Caps, that treat the Devils like rag dolls every time they meet. Unless Fitzy fixes this, no championships will be coming to Jersey any time soon. Our core is too small so some of that core has to be traded. The best return would be to trade both Hughes brothers. That might be the only path forward. But, now, Jack is injured and that hurts his trade value so there's really no path forward to a championship in the near future. We need a new GM to deal with this mess and it IS a mess.
I've been walking around in a mood since I saw the game, calmed down now… to everyone blaming Jack's lack of size… size wouldn't have helped him in that injury! Fingers crossed Jack will be back before the play offs, I still believe we can make it to the party. My only fear is that Fitz does nothing, I hope he at least gets some depth forwards 🤷♀ we'll see. In my head I'm hoping for the "the Devils are better without Jack" scenario where we go on a run without him. Let's Go Devils 😈🏒

Obviously you know I’m from Vancouver Canada. I chose to be a devils fan when I was like 6. I’m a devils fan because of guys like Stevens, Brodeur and Friesen.

I remember celebrating when we won the 1st overall pick to get jack. Thought of him as the next Patrick Kane. Over this last year I really started to see he’s not like Kane at all. As much as I hate to say it, I don’t like Jack anymore. He’s not someone I’d want on my team if I built a franchise. I’ll support him as long as he’s in a devils jersey but I don’t have high expectations for him. You can dislike what I say as it is my opinion. I don’t believe in a guy that has played 6 nhl seasons and not been able to play close to a full season. The guy constantly gives up pucks and shy’s away from hits. He was nearly invisible in 4 nations. My point is, I’m not happy he’s injured but I’m happy to finally see what this team can do without him. Sure he Produces most offence for us but thats because he gets more opportunities than any other player on the team. I’d like to see what we can do when those chances are spread out to others on the team. I really believe in Nico. He has heart and is a winner. One of the best captains in the nhl. Let’s get someone at the deadline. Big name or small name and see how nico can sail this ship. I truly believe we will not miss playoffs. I believe in this team. Shit may not be good right now. But all that matters is playoffs. The boys need to step up. Move on to the next and focus what’s ahead of us and not behind us. Dallas is hot right now but I know we can beat them.
Narratives among this fanbase kind of become themselves after a bit. For example "the Devils are soft" well they kinda were, not to the extent that a lot of fans thought, but then it became even you going "well this team can't handle Brad Marchand, Torts" etc which you know is silly. Another is "Fitz does nothing" well, Fitz took his sweet time last year, sure, but overall he's been very aggressive in terms of solving problems, ESPECIALLY when he thinks the team is in a good spot. The team needed tough skill, so over two season he went out and got Timo Meier, Paul Cotter, Steffan Noesen, Brett Pesce, all good additions imo. The team needed goaltending, now they have (according to goals saved above expected) the best tandem in the NHL this season and are three goalies deep with a promising potential starter as a prospect in the NCAA. Now the Devils need scoring, and there are options out there.
Fitz will be active, this season is vastly different to the situation the team had last year, this is now entirely Fitz's team. We're not just talking about Tom Fitzgerald keeping this job anymore, we're talking about "will Fitz ever hold an NHL job again after this one" Fitz will make moves because he's not stupid, even just selfishly he doesn't want to wake up as Dave Nonis one day, or Peter Chiarelli, or Mike Milbury. The team is in a playoff spot, they have the best tandem in the NHL and a strong defense, by his own logic Tom Fitzgerald will not punt on this season.
This could be a blessing in disguise. Fitze obviously has had to of been talking to other GM's for a while. He needs to circle back with them and try to get advantageous. This could help them in the future. You put jack on LTIR, and circumvent the cap. It will cost them prospects and picks but he could go for players that are in the age bracket of the team and are under contract for a few years. Guys like Dylan Cozens, Lawson Crouse, and Zegras. This would address some of the needs from before the injury and also help them fill in some of the lost offense lost from Hughes. But it's gonna cost them. But these players are under contract and are keepers.
Yeah I think this is the dagger that just killed our season. I hope Jack is ok. But I know Fitzs' style. He's gonna punt this season and do jack shit. Which might be a good thing, because that might prompt ownership to fire him. Cheers, Ace! Win or lose, we booze!
Gotta salvage this and put bratt-nico- timo on the first line and get another center or two for depth and let it ride. I feel like nico bratt and timo can step up and for what it’s worth any production outside of bratt will be a plus because no one has scored recently

I live and die with this team and every shift. I’m depressed. This season is turning into a dumpster fire. My Christmas was amazing, because I knew we were top 3 in the NHL. To see a team stumble this fast is sickening. Hughes looked like he passed out and went lifeless for 3 seconds…f***ing scary! He’s our heart and soul! If we miss playoffs, I might end up in a mental institution. Never give up Devils!

Initially very dire about this team after the loss. But I admire the heart luke has shown, and hope the group can rally. Maybe we can get some positives from the diagnosis, some trade help, and make a push. Feeling sorry for yourself can be a losing mentality. We as fans can choose to rally with them instead of whine and cry about how everything is against us. If we go down, it won't be due to lack of effort. LGD!

Devils are lifeless, watching Chi-LA, both teams have energy, life, not the Devils. Everything they do is hard labor, zero chemistry, zero confidence, no leadership, Jack is immature, the only stand up guy is Dillon, the rest is soft and just passengers. Fitz – Hughes connection will destroy this franchise. Team first !!!
