  1. People don't understand the canucks have several Dman prospects that can make the team next year in elias petterson and tom willander

Tbh getting anything for soucy with no retention is a win

  2. i guess elias pettersson will be slotted in soucy's spot full time. i will be shocked if the canucks actually make this pick.

  3. That's sick. Just realized the Canucks got this pick that belonged to the Sharks, so this is basically a second rounder…

  4. I wonder if why we arent hearing the leafs do anything is because they can't. Im no expert on trade in the nhl but from an outsiders perspective, they are the riches team in the nhl and that would mean they have money to buy guys. When the leafs do want to buy or make a trade other teams are like " well riches team, if you want this person you will have to give up more than other teams." which is hancuffing the leafs and making it hard to do anything because the price to obtain something is so high.
I dont know just a theory and tell me if thats not how it works. thanks

  5. Really worth highlighting that it's actually Elias Pettersson, the defenseman, who's made Soucy expendable. He's one of the youngest defenseman in the NHL and was a 3rd round pick two years ago. He's already a solid 3rd pairing guy and arguably as good as Soucy already leading to Soucy getting healthy scratched behind the rookie. Vancouver saved $3.25m and get to develop a rookie who plays the same role.

  6. They got Pettersson from PIT to replace Soucy because of the rift caused by the 11.6million dollar ghost boy.

I think Soucy was a fantastic competitor, an absolute warrior. Iirc, that game he was made to sit out against EDM last spring was lost by one goal, a bad play made by Juulsen that sprung McDavid for a goal. Had Soucy been in that game, I'm pretty sure they advance to the WCF (thanks Zadorov).

Good luck in NY, Carson. The west is going to miss you. You'll be in good company with Miller tho 💯

  7. When you look at Soucy’s advanced stats, what you see is that being 6’5 is sometimes irrelevant. His giveaways were one of the highest on the team – expected goals for one of the lowest. And the eye test for using that size? I can’t remember the last time I saw him crush a guy into the boards or move a guy out of the front. I like the guy, but he simply wasn’t effective here.

  8. Should've mentioned Elias Pettersson (the defenseman) showing well and pushing Soucy out of the line up…

  9. It's a sellers market, yet nobody wants Boeser…. Marcus Pettersson and Elias Pettersson (D) has made Soucy expendable if you have no plans on going deep in the playoffs. If the Canucks had a talented roster, they would have kept Soucy for critical Defensive depth that western teams need for a cup run.

  10. 3:10 when he says "19-20" I know hes talking about the 2019-2020 season by my brain short circulated and thought 1920 like this dude has been in the league for 105 years.

  11. I thought Canucks would have to add to get rid of this contract earlier in the year. Getting almost a second for him is crazy

  12. 5:10 The Canucks how have quite a bit of cap space to make a crazy move, especially with one of Petts of B-Star likely on the move in the next 20 hours or so. Allvin generally doesn't make a move like this without having something else up his sleeve. I like this trade.

  13. Thank God, I was hoping Vancouver would trade him, I was beginning to look at him like Ian Cole. All Vancouver needs to do is trade Boeser, cause he's not returning, get something back for him, save the cap for Quinn's extension.

  14. Most teams raise their ceiling at the deadline. The Rangers raised their floor. Moved players out who were either on bad value contracts or players with significant injury history. All this without sacrificing the limited draft assets that the Rangers had. Nice work Drury. Team still looks staggered but the East fell off so hard this season, so anything is possible in the playoffs.

  15. At least McDavid won't worry about being cross-checked in a second round matchup anytime soon. Oh wait

  16. huh. i don't like Drury as my GM. I've lost a lot of faith in him this year, but this is a slick move.

  17. Great!!!! Soucy has turned to absolute dog sh*t….i'm shocked another team had interest in this plug

  18. People keep mentioning the JT Miller connection but nobody has mentioned he'll be back with his old d pair man in Will Borgen

  19. This weekend for the rangers will be VERY interesting, Saturday against Ottawa (1 game in hand tied at 67 at the time of this comment), sun against the Blue Jackets (1 point ahead, no game in hand as they lost their 61st at the time of this comment). Seems like an even trade where both teams get what they wanted for their goals.

  20. Funny that you forgot about the JT Miller trade until halfway through the video: only way to explain you saying that the Rangers have only sold off players this season lol.

  21. As a Canuck fan We have Pettersson (not that one… or that one) playing really well recently. Young D man who honestly has outplayed Soucy. Also Tom Willander playoffs with Boston just started. He might be called up to play with the big boys very soon depending on how his playoffs goes.

  22. EP-D is doing so much better than Soucy, now they just gotta get rid of Juulsen and we'll be better and geared for the playoff push

  23. As a Canucks fan I mostly like this trade? He was definable expendable at the deadline & if the 65th Overall Pick is the best offer we got for him then that's fair enough. Although I would've liked a Draft Pick a bit higher in the 2nd Round

  24. honestly i think this is a good trade for both sides. soucy a good defenseman that was having a bad season and probably needed a reset. canucks get him off their cap and now has some room to make another trade.

  25. Worst d-man on the canucks this year, healthy scratched at times. Fully replaced on the left side by the 2 Pettersons. 6'5 means nothing when you dont hit or clear the net front.

Was hoping for maybe a 2nd and prospect given the lack of available D but whatever, the highest 3rd is still fine.

  26. Great Video/Update, Steve. I'm not very up on this trade, but, given, technically, it's a flip of Reilly Smith for Carson Soucy, it's OK.

  27. The Canucks have so many guys named Petterson, even if all aren't spelled the same, I'm thinking they should change it to The Vancouver Pettersons. LOL
