  1. Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior. I have zero faith that Yzerman can build a championship team because the pro scouting is such a massive fail.

  2. Wings saved $17M under the cap to sign Mrazek! Moved Husso to bring in Mrazek! Either way, the team is no better. Veleno is worth 2 players where Walman have to add a pick to take him off our hands? Tired to hear "Wait 'til next year". Wings not showing they want to win yet. I don't trust this next off-season to do anything to improve this team. Cat has been the only signing to do so. No one wanted Kane and we got him cheap, so if there was a mistake not much lost, but otherwise no signings of note. 🏒

  3. The contracts you don't like are the time line. When guys like chariot ect are no longer here and youth has pushed them out then we are a team that can push. That was the plan, build the prospects, let them develop to take the spots, trade the next wave for the push. 2 more years before you see a big push at the deadline.

  4. Yzerman has been mediocre at best and is stunting the growth of cossa as mzarek and Talbot are goalies under contract next yr

  5. At this point just send Laggesson back to GR, Sit Holl, and call up Wallinder. Let the rookie make the mistakes and learn from it instead a veteran making the mistake when they SHOULD be better then that.

  6. I'd rather have Cossa as third… or James Reimer back… instead of Mrazek. Bringing up young guys has been a tremendous delay. Not sure why guys like Kasper, Burger, Elmer werent brought up sooner. Seems to be no clear plan on timelines for the young players currently on the Grifs. Building a solid core base of the francise isnt apart of the future strategic planning it sure seems. Reactive vs. proactive approach to building a solid NHL team… Really a diservice to the players and the fanbase invested in the hopes of a playoff run…

  7. You guys want Yzerman to give up assets to improve the team, yet you don't want them to get stuck in the middle. How are they going to get stuck in the middle when they have the best and deepest prospect pool in the league? How is keeping their 1st/2nd round picks and prospects going to get them stuck? The teams that get stuck are the one's trading those assets in a desperate attempt to get better.

You really want them to be more like Ottawa? They trade the 7th and 39th overall pick for Debrincat, look how that turned out. A 1st and two 2nd rounders for Chychrun? How did that turn out? A 1st for 31 year old Ulmark who they then signed for 8.25 million a year before he ever even played a game for them and a year in advance. Now he only has a save percentage of .909%.
That is how you get stuck in the middle. If Brady Tkachuk demands a trade they are going right back to rebuild mode having never made the playoffs during that entire stretch.

You guys just need to be patient and have a little foresight. Seider, Raymond, Edvinsson, Kasper is already a very good core. Wait a year or two when Cossa, ASP, Danielson and Buchelnikov are on team. Plenty of other promising players/prospects too. Soderblom, Mazur, Augustine, MBN, Finnie, Buium, Wallinder.

  8. The trade reasoning: 1. Next year market for available goalies looks thin, likely to lose Lyon in free agency (should have been traded). Mrazek brings experience and is solid. 2. Craig Smith is a here for a year, fills a needed slot right now, likely gone after the season. This is essentially dumping Veleno's cap hit. (Another cap casualty resulting from bad contracts that Yzerman has signed (Holl, Copp, Compher, Tarasenko).

  9. What you guys are describing is how a team becomes a poverty franchise because they simply don't WANT to spend.

  10. Other than the players Yzerman has signed to long term contracts(Larkin, Raymond and Seider) and the rookies coming up from GR, there is nobody tradeable for an asset. This is on Yzerman because he brought them in, then signing them to terrible contracts. Mrazek is another waist of cap space. I'm sure we could have resigned Lyon for 2 million for another year. Mrazek is a downgrade to Lyon period on top of waisting 2 million of cap space next year on the difference. Detroit has to go for the bigger fish and pay them. Sstop waisting cap space on fringe players who don't work out.

  11. Mrazek is a more aggressive goalie, detroits goalies are not challenging the shooters, so it kind of makes sense, but mrazek does have a history of over pursuing so…

  12. Guys, it takes 2 to tango. They can't acquire talent that doesn't want to come here. They're developing homegrown talent to make the team more appealing to high end free agency talent for the right price. You see it with Rantannen. He was willing to take less to play in Dallas because of the talent that would be around him. I think the big acquisition is coming, the team is getting better naturally and it's the right players making the push for it.

  13. You guys killed it. You can't draft your way to reach where the Floridas and Torontos and Dallases are at now. That elite talent is not gonna be accessible via the draft. You have to look elsewhere.

And you'll have to pay a price to do it. If you clutch your pearls because you don't like the price, this team is doomed and we'll have to rebuild the rebuild.

  14. Stevie y probably regretted the walman and trade and now is stingy and snakebitten with our prospects and picks.

  15. This makes me wonder about the direction for next season and beyond. Need Cossa to prove himself in a backup role to push the rebuild forward… Yzerman continues to make patch short term moves over and over that slow the rebuild.

  16. I think this might be partly a Chris Illitch issue. He he beyond cheap and just wants to collect his money from the toys he’s inherited from Daddy. I think he may be limiting Steve financially.

  17. I wish you guys could be in the media rooms asking these harder questions to the players and coaching. I'm tired of seeing mid to low tier talent come in.

  18. What you guys are forgetting is on day one he said they were building through the draft that was the plan and he said it was gonna take a while. I’m annoyed too, but Brian saying asset management we’re not trading first and top prospects for a basic ass players doesn’t make any sense, so you guys are willing to give up Kasper , Buch , Augustine, ASP,MBN, soderblom, Danielson ? That’s what teams are asking for , I’m rather keep them and build

  19. Yzerman said at the beginning of the season that a win this year would be growth from within:
1.) Kasper has grown a ton
2.) Edvisson has grown a ton
3.) Johansson has grown a ton

Playoffs were a long shot at Game 1 this year, they were near impossible at Christmas, and we are in the mix (I don’t say that with hope they’ll make it), and some of our young guys have taken big steps.

McClellan has this team playing to their potential. It’s up from here, because that’s all they’ve done since Christmas.

  20. Conveniently missing Yzerman saying we aren't trading our young guys and draft picks. And they wanted more than one year. Did you watch the press conference?

  21. Goaltending sucked? We let in 2 shorthanded goals. The hell? Did you watch the game? Seider “pushed” the one to the outside, but never challenged him whatsoever! It was a pathetic effort.

Not overall goaltending was the problem. Our PP1 getting scored on is unacceptable.

  22. Mrazek may be to turn up the heat on the other goalies. He's been on a terrible team and probably was struggling to keep competing. A change of scenery could be what he needs since the Detroit is in the hunt for the playoffs, or at least that threat of revitalizing him could be enough to light a fire under the other goalies. On the trades that weren't made, it seems like the price other teams are asking for is much higher for the Detroit than anyone else. They see the assets Detroit has and think they can greatly up the price just because we have so many on the way. We all need to remember that when Yzerman took over, we only had Larkin on team, Rassi and Berggren in the pipeline (of those who are still on the team). Ask how many of those players that were given up (Bertuzzi, Mantha, etc) became superstars or major contributors on other teams. Hronek is about the only one and that's largely due to who his linemates are. The Wings had almost nothing, got screwed repeatedly in the draft lottery, and needed to build through the draft and had almost nothing on the team and nothing in the pipeline. That takes a long time to fix.

  23. Brian, which high end prospects are you willing to trade to bring the in top end talent? If you are going to make a statement like that be more specific. I agree that spending money on mediocre talent will not move the team forward and spending that money on one high end talent then back filling with prospects would be better. Not being willing to spend the money is only one side of the equation. High end talent might not want to spend their prime on a team that may not make the playoffs. Yzerman needs to stop buying mediocre talent and use his prospects. One last thing that may play into this, Pizza Boy may be tying Yzerman’s hands financially.

  24. Boys, this season is cooked. It was cooked after the back-to backs with CBJ. There is nothing to save here. Play Mrazek every game and tank our way to a good pick.

It's not even about the trade. If that trade happened in the off season it would be a footnote. I didn't want Yzerman dropping good assets for rentals. The thing that's getting stuck in people's craw is the money on Mrazek's contract. If you did a straight swap Veleno for Smith everyone just says "Okay" and shrugs.

I agree that this off season will be the test of Yzerman's tenure. He needs to make big swings. Steve needs to throw a mountain of cash at Mitch Marner and make a big move on a defenseman (or two). If Mrazek's cap hit keeps you from doing that, now we have a major problem.

  25. I don't think Mrazek was acquired to not gift Cossa a spot. I think they got him because the goalie market next summer is garbage and they don't wanna give someone 2–4 years. So 1 year left of Mrazek is better to them.

  26. My Hot Take; Every time we get into playoff position and the pressure is on, we collapse.
I’m over Larkin… But everybody thinks he’s a superstar! Last years collapse everybody thought it was because Larkin was out, but this year it proves that the collapses are actually because defensive minded centers are out! Trade Larkin and get a ton for him while we can! Never should’ve made him Captain.

  27. As a long time Chicago fan who followed Debrincat to the Wings and than the Reunion of Kane and Cat Awesome by the way,I was secretly hoping Mrazek was gonna end up in Detroit he has been the only player they had that I liked. Chicago defensively and offensively have been a joke and failing all there goalkeepers it's been absolutely pitiful, Mrazek and all the goalies in Chicago have been hung out to dry they had/have no chance for sustained success.

  28. So, who are the RWs trading to get a game changing type of player? Seider, Raymond or Edvinsson would probably need to go as most teams seem to want good NHL ready players. Tanking teams trade their good assets for prospects. Maybe Yzerman can find something to do with one of these teams in the off season? Maybe Elias Pettersson becomes available & can turn things around with a new team? That's the closest to an "elite" player the RWs could possibly try to trade for

Mrazek trade must be for pushing Talbot & Lyon to play better. Hopefully, the competition gets them to the playoffs.

Walman trade & Holl signing are not good, but I think the RWs are actually ahead in the rebuild. Yzerman's draft picks have been reaaly good & I wonder what another GM would have picked in the same situation. Got lucky with Debrincat & Kane wanting to play for Detroit. Imagine what this team would look like without these 2 players & draft picks? Building through the draft is slow & can be frustrating. But, it's the right way to do it.

Let's see if the RWs can finish better than last year. Whether you like it or not, the team has improved every year.

  29. Adding Mrazek gives us a goalie next year. this obviously shows they are moving on from Lyon. If thats the case and they want a 2nd NHL goalie in case Cossa isnt ready, then they would have to go sign a goalie in free agency and you're not getting a decent guy on a 1-year deal in this market. Mrazek is still 33 which is 5 years younger than Talbot. if the rest of this year and next year work out for him. then you have a Cossa/Mrazek tandem you can ride in the short term until Augustine comes up. With the way the market has been, you have to just kick the can down the road on this position since you have a starter who is nearly ready. And if Cossa comes into training camp and preseason and he is clearly better than one of the other two, Yzerman isnt shy to put a higher paid goalie on waivers.

  30. Wings are WEAK & COWARDLY with Zero Toughness! Even if the make playoffs they will be dumped in 1st rd! Toughness wins in playoffs! Steve SUCKS!
