1. According to Rod Brind'Amore, Rantenan came in initially and said "There are 4 cities I'm willing to play for, you are not one of them"

Rod did not sound happy about that

  2. The issue with wanting to trade with the Leafs was apparently that Mitch Marner would have been the return, he refused to wave his no trade clause. Also, I don't think Rantenan wanted to be there otherwise they'd have figured something out. Rantenan was being extremely picky

  3. Holy frick the salt is real. Guy gets traded and suddenly his the villain number one.

  4. The two new guys already put up more than mikko rantanen. I'm not even mad about the trade, I would have gotten rif of rantenen for less.

We were never supposed to win the cup this year. Goalie problems most of the year and quite a bit of the roster has changed from trades/injuries all season. The fact they are so high still seems odd.

I think other teams value necas more than the canes value him.

    Time will tell though.

  5. Real winner is Jack Roslovic. Dude only gave up his number for 13 games and got a free limited edition Rolex

  6. I don't get the outrage; God forbid the guy actually plan on using his UFA rights. He didn't produce a lot in Carolina but it's not like the effort wasn't there

  7. I'd say the Canes, Avs, and Stars all won the trade. Each of them got what they wanted/needed. Necas wasn't resigning with Carolina and they basically traded away Necas for two firsts, two thirds, and Stankoven. They don't get any worse going from Necas to Stankoven. Necas has fit in well with the Avs and this allowed them to make more moves such as trading for Nelson. Stars don't need the picks and Rantanen helps them win now. In order to fully evaluate this trade, we have to wait and see how Carolina utilizes these 2 first round picks. Whether that be selecting a good player or if they use it to bring in another player to help them win now.

  8. What I will say that is if the stars traded the avs directly for rantanen, there’s no way we would have gotten him for what we got him for

  9. Winners of the Mikko Rantanen trade:
    Jim Nill
    Jack Roslovic
    Martin Necas
    Logan Stankoven
    Washington Capitals
    Dallas Stars
The future of the Carolina Hurricanes
    Mikko Rantanen's financial security

Every NHL fan who wants to see Mikko play the Avs in the playoffs
    Losers:

    Sebastian Aho
    Kirill Kaprizov

    Mikko Rantanen's reputation
Sabres fans who cry "no goal"

  10. I would be more afraid of meeting dallas in the playoffs I know it would be the final but stars get to the western conference championship often

  11. I am a Hurricane Season Ticket Member, but I am also a Stars fan. Mikko did not fit the defensive first system in Carolina. 13 games and only 6 points – he was not used to this style of play and it showed. Rod demands defense first from his players – that is not Mikko. The Canes should have pushed for Brock Nelson instead. If Barkov becomes available, then he would be the perfect fit in this system. Also, just to clear up the Drury and Necas side of this equation: both players asked for trades last year. It has been heavily reported here that Tulsky promised to get a deal done as long as both players continued to play to their fullest and it was no surprise to see them get traded. The biggest loss in my opinion was Drury's 52% faceoff wins. Now we have to hope KK can perform better.

The way I view this deal since Mikko was not staying is the Canes get a 1st and a 3rd for each Drury and Necas, and Stankoven is the cherry on top that I feel could become a 30-goal scorer very soon. Plus, they will now have 35 million in cap to go after players like Nick Ehlers and Brock Boeser – get them in free agency and then you know they want to be here instead of trades and they leave after the playoffs. As far as the lack of star-power; that has never been the Carolina way. However, I will say that Rod has become a master at taking what looks like poor teams on paper and taking them to the ECF twice. I am overjoyed that the Stars gained Mikko, and I might get a second cup win, but the Canes at least got something other than stale popcorn and worthless considerations.

  12. In my personal opinion I like the trade, being a Stars fan, but I would have tried to keep Stankoven. I would have given up Dadanov Marchment or Lybushkin before I would have considered giving up a rising Star like Stankoven. But I get it, if we wanted to get a dangerous powerhouse of a player like Rantanen, you’re gonna have to give up someone big. In the big picture of things, I think DAL won. CAR was foolish to give up Necas in the first place. They gave up a player who wanted to go somewhere else to getting a player that didn’t want to be there either(Mikko). Now we got him. Give Stankoven a few more years to develop and he’ll be just as dangerous too.

  13. I swear the AVs fans are the reason I don’t support the AVs even though I live in Colorado. This guy bust his ass for there team and gets them a cup, gets traded and all of sudden it’s his fault. Douche canoes on their avalanche podcasts make up bullshit stories about him being greedy and suddenly that’s the truth forgetting all the fuck fuck games management has been playing since the off season all the way up to just before they traded him. Shame on the fans for turning on him like that. Bunch of whiny children mad they lost their shiny toy.

  14. As a Stars fan, this trade is good for both sides. We hated to see Stank go.
I'm excited for him. There are a lot of Stars fans who want to see him excel in Carolina!
