I think he said the Panthers for all of the above reasons. He knows staff, he befriended players, his family is on the east coast etc.. it just worked out that way no other option really.
What do you think will happen to Sacco? Go back to an assistant in Boston or move on to another head coach position?

The 37 year old, declining player, with two surgically repaired hips, who has had a crap ton of other surgeries wanted the Bruins did give me a longer term deal at somewhere between $5M-$7M a year
And when he signs for $6M-$7M plus this off season for two or three years with another team, Bruins homers will see exactly why the Bruins had to walk away from him
Marchand making a compromise likely meant his being willing to take a pay cut to say $10M for 2 years. ($5M AAV) or $18M for 3 years ($6M AAV)
The Bruins could not give a 37 year old Marchand that kind of money and term and they didn't. Then they did Marchand a solid by trading him to the only place he said he'd go, Florida
Sweeney holds plenty of blame for letting the contract issue with Marchand get to the point it did, however, lets also be honest here, Marchand and his agent also share plenty of the blame here because they wanted a high AAV longer term deal from a team that HAD to make a decision to get younger and look to the future
The return on the deal was lousy in large part because of factors tied to Marchand

Blame Sweeney for giving out crap contracts to Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov which helped to contribute to this Marchand issue but either way, it is what it is, however, not blaming Marchand here and crapping all over Don Sweeney here in terms of how all this played out would just be dumb
Both sides are to blame where (Sweeney/Bruins and Marchand and his camp) and I'm sorry if the only contract Marchand would accept was one that took him to 40 and was in the $6M-$7M AAV range, I'm glad they didn't pull that trigger because if they're going to invest any more big dollars in the the $6M-$8M, especially on longer term deals, it can't be on injured 37 year olds trying to cash out their last big pay check after making nearly $80M over the course of his NHL career
