If I remember correctly Vegas was 9-1 in their first 10. Nobody expected to be like Vegas in their inaugural season. Seattle was a question mark coming in but expectations weren’t high. They definitely failed to take advantage of their situation at the expansion draft the way Vegas did but other teams learned from their mistakes and weren’t going to be taken advantage of the way Vegas did. Their team is basically a bunch of 3rd liners and #4-5 defence men. Their 2nd overall pick is playing college this year so that’s a bright spot for next year. Not loading up on draft picks is gonna prove to be a massive fail.
On a pacific division side note, how the heck is Calgary doing as well as they are? The sharks are coming back to reality so their fast start isn’t going to mean much. Vegas, as I said to start the year, got worse this year, aren’t as good as all the analysts were predicting and the key injuries they’re dealing with are really setting them back. And the Oilers are kicking ass, don’t forget I was backing them to win the division since before the season started

I wouldn't say they are in trouble. Vegas set high and unrealistic expectations. Seattle hasn't done bad when you consider they are an expansion team

The problem is they don’t have great scorers, other than that they don’t look as bad as people make them out to be, it’s gonna take a couple months before their chemistry is on point also

Totally agree. Didn't go for broke, and didn't go for a build. Put money into 2 franchise goalies, but little towards a first line. Picked up some solid core second line/second pair veterans, but not enough up and comers. Missed their opportunity to draft trade pieces that could have been packaged and moved for those top players they chose not to swing for. Francis asked too much to take on big contracts, so they missed out on potential draft capital and prospects. They started as a team on the decline from day one. Sorry Seattle fans, Francis dropped the ball on this one.
They're a young team and need more experience. One of my biggest gripes watching the Kraken is I see no urgency to chase after loose pucks unless they're bunched up together. Nearly every goal scored has been due to mismanagement of who's guarding who on the ice. I was at the Kraken game against NY and other than the absolute snipe from the Rangers first goal, the other two were caused by indecision and personnel mismatches. Kraken NEED to pursue the puck, they NEED to finish their checks, and they NEED to stop trying to do so much individually. That's all stuff that comes over time and with proper coaching.
Their problems started at the draft

No surprise here, should be sellers at the deadline, stock up for this coming draft. Maybe make a big splash in free agency since they have cap space. They have decent young guys to build around

I was skeptic about Hakstol since day one and still am. But there’s 82 games this season and if you look overall in the standings there’s alot of surprises. No need to rush anything yet, let the boys find chemistry and buy into the new system before doing any changes. Seattle will be just fine and a fun team to follow.

It seems to me that a lot of teams didn't want to deal with Seattle in order to prevent another Vegas Golden Helmets juggernaut. Vegas did a lot of creative wheeling and dealing that seemed pretty innocent at the time so the other teams avoided any of that nonsense with Seattle. Get me once shame on you kind of stuff. I do agree that they missed out on Tarasenko and that was a huge miss.
Why did the kraken NEED to get off to a good start?
From all accounts their playing the long game, and that means a few tough seasons while management can land some good draft picks.
Vegas had is much easier coming in, the rules where new and GMs around the league didn't know how to react, leading to some truly foolish moves.

I feel like their biggest problem is the way the team got built, it was kinda weird. They built the team in a way where they didn't go all in on winning right away, but they also didn't go in the direction of building for the long term and future. They're just kinda in the middle.
I also didn't understand the coaching hire of Dave Hakstol, especially when they had the chance to hire Gallant who literally broight an expansion team to a Cup Final Year 1, who was just mediocre with a ton of talent in Philly. They don't seem to be looking so great atm even though it could easily change.
Here’s my take on my boys of the PNW:
Like you said Geekie who has an absolute cannon of a shot has been massively disappointing and Appleton is almost non existent. We have games where we are 30+ shots on goal with a score of 1-2 goals, meanwhile teams like Vegas shooting 3 goals in 6-7 shots, or like last night we do well then allow 3 goals in 90 seconds. Goaltending is an absolute mess, our defense has some really sloppy passing and puck handling causing huge turnovers on a breakaway. It’s like every team we play their Goalies make these amazing saves shot after shot, and then they turn and finesse our goalies like butter. Grub getting back to back 5-holed, etc. We have to play aggressive after our scores, and the full 3 periods. We missed out on guys I was hoping we’d sign like Tarasenko, we NEED A PROVEN SCORER and play maker to elevate our offense and motivate the boys. Most concerning is our coaching has been proven to never be successful and was probably the worst decision we made. But here’s what I ask you….what’s the answer? How do they fix this to become REAL competitors…because I want our boys to be successful so badly.
They built their roster all wrong, either take some chances and draft big name guys or just tank and get a top 3 draft pick, instead they're in no man's land
Yeah nothing is really wrong with the Kraken, it’s just an expansion team in their first year. Remember, Vegas is the ONLY team to EVER finish over .500 across ANY of the Big 4 Leagues let alone reach the championship.

The team is actual ass. ive only seen like 30 minutes total of good hockey play. i think its time to fire hakstol and just tank for Wright and bedard
