You gotta play Ovechkin on the road. The fans deserve to see him.
The tougher question is putting Ovechkin on the ice near the end of the game when he might get an empty net goal to tie or break the record. I don't want him to tie or break the record with an empty net goal. But I don't want the Capitals to not put the game away with an empty net goal just because they're keeping Ovechkin on the bench at the end of a game, and then the other team ties it up.
Ovy is an all-time goal scorer, but he is not an all-time player like Gretzky and Crosby are. I hope he breaks it this year so we can quit discussing the chase and start the discussion about the goals vs points record, because the points record is the better measure of the ability and longevity of the overall player, and Ovy still has 1200 to go to catch Gretzky there.
The sitting Ovi for road games AND WANTING to be the record breaking goalie were such bad takes I had to go from watching Youtube on my TV, actually boot up my computer and find this video again just so I could comment what an absolutely ATROCIOUS take that is. Jesse should have his mic privilege's taken away for the rest of the season.
You're missing the really important reason to break the record this year-if the record chase rolls over, those tickets are gonna cost eleventy billion dollars.
I love Jesse sometimes cuz he has the craziest takes. I remember at the beginning of the year he predicted Chicago would be “in the mix” or smth to that effect
All i want is for his biggest fan, putin, to be there. would be a great day for ovi seing his idol when getting honored. so yeah, let putin come and see, it will mean a lot to ovi.
Jesse is somehow insanely wrong on both points haha. He wants it this year. the team wants it this year and doing anything that might stop that is fireable, if they dont get it this year it will be a bit deflating going into the playoffs for them and the fans. Also you absolutely do not want to be the guy he scores it on, 0% chance.anyone signs up to be that person
Just let him decide whether to sit or play any remaining games? Easy answer.
Jessie Blake is absolutely ICE COLD in this one
Why would you want to bench him when he’s 6 goals away from breaking the record?
Scratching Ovie now… This is going into the encyclopedia as the quintessential example of a bad take. Look, he's scoring at a clip of 0.5 per game, he's going to need all of the rest of this season to break it. You do not bench him. If he's 1 away in an away game, I bet you dollars to donuts that he's going to turn into an apple cart for the rest of the game. He'll do everything he can on HIS end to make sure he not only breaks it, but ties it at home. Don't take that agency away from him.
The caps are built around getting Ovi that record, no way hes sitting.
I'll be glad when he breaks the record so I don't have to hear about it anymore. Why would he sit? Crazy notion.
If im a goalie and im playing against OVI when he has 893 goals. im letting in 2 goals…. no hesitation.
I like these guys a lot but they have ridiculous takes
I get Jesse's logic but I hate it. Ovi needs to play as many games as possible until he breaks the record. If he's to be rested it should only be AFTER he breaks the record. We all know he is incredibly motivated and would hate being scratched.
Why is no one talking about the fact that he could not only break the record but also in fewer games !!
Gretz 1487 games 894 goals
Ovi 1481 games 889 goals
He’s 6 games ahead
and behind 5 goals
Why is no one talking about the fact that not only can he break the record but he could do it with fewer games played. Or even weirder if he ties exactly.
Ovi breaking the record in Pittsburgh would be sweet.
As a Caps fan, it doesn't matter where he does it.
Should the Caps have intentionally lose Game 5 against Vegas in the 2018 Cup Finals, so they might win Game 6 at home?
Jesse's takes in this clip are a Dangle Dang-it.
Dear Jesse Blake..wtf are u talking aboot..sitting OV on the road…Do YOU think he would agree to load management….cali sun is affecting you lol..luv u guys
Is Jessie on drugs?
I'm sure the fans would love seeing history not being made.
Jesse’s take is the wildest/ hottest take I’ve ever seen
Playoffs for sure. It's going to distract from winning (similar to trying to get Matthews 70 last year), but it will be sick!
Caps need to get Ovechkin the record quickly so they can then give Ovechkin the final 2 games off to rest up and be 100%
Jets fan here
Go oViii
Jesse should be forced to wear a paper bag over his head for the rest of his life for that "Scratch Ovi" take, genuinely shameful 😂
Ol' Bad Take Blake at it again.
What if a goalie or team makes it happen in a not normal way. Like let him score blatant no effort or an own goal where he touched it last for the caps. Or they do a review on it even if there is no obvious infraction of sort. Try to dampen the moment.
"who cares if he breaks it this year? There's always next year"
Spoken like a true Leafs fan 😅
What a dumb take. Sit him for away games. Ha.
That take is f’kn stupid. That and every single take he had after it is dumb. He’s a moron. And him breaking it early in the next season would be pathetic with how close he is. Maybe if it was another 25. But no. This is such a bad take
After not scoring tonight I think it could definitely still happen at home. He still needs 6 and it’s not like he’s scoring every night. Him getting it against carolina on the 10th or Columbus on the 13th wouldn’t surprise me.
I want him to do it at home.
He needs 6 goals in 10 games, not a sure thing
My question is whether ovi would pass on the opportunity to score the record breaking goal on an empty net
If I were the goalie and Ovi were one goal away from the record and my team is up (or down) 6-1 in the third, I'd pull him aside at a stoppage and tell him that if he gets a clean look I will 100% bite on the first move he makes. Be on the ice for that celebration, life is too short.
Jesse's takes get exponentially worse throughout this video, and it's wild
