I think you guys can turn things around next year with the acquisition of some solid vets. It would be nice for both our teams to be in the playoffs next year, Sens and Sabres. You’re a great fanbase and deserve to have a playoff team again.
At this point, one thing is clear.. the sabres scoring is good enough, their numbers are on par with most of the playoff teams… but the goaltending is highly inconsistant… UPL has regressed back to his minor league self. If Levi can make the leap next year I think we have a chance.. Sadly, I've not seen any decent netminders on the UFA market for a while.
The Sabres will have their best Season in a long time,next year,I believe!
I think the turning point this season for Ottawa was when Ullmark got hurt and they brought up a guy named Leevi who played a lot better than our Levi. He kept them above water, plus they played reasonably well when they had that giant road trip for the WJC. They could have went on a massive losing streak like we do, and they didn't. Now they close with something like 9 out of 10 at home.

Buffalo has not had a consistent goalie since Miller thus the reason why they have not made playoffs since Miller was in net.
In my 35 years of being a fan, there are 3 trades that stick with me that I didn't want to happen and in my gut really felt bad about. Chris Drury, Sam Reinhart and Linus Ullmark. Those are the only ones I recall thinking at the time they happened "this is a mistake".
we have Power, Samuelsson, and UPL and they have Ullmark Tkachuk and Stutzle.
Cost of having the youngest team. And the inability to draw established free agents.
I'd like to see a stat on odd-man rushes. Sabres' highest scoring forwards also seem to give up a lot of odd-man rushes. With Sabres' sub-par goaltending, it means an extra 6-7 losses, which is the difference between the two teams.
Weird stat, but I believe the Sabres have as many or more regulation wins than the Habs, but the Habs have managed more OT/SO points.

I bet it was hard getting players to come here when Okoposo and Girgensons were resigned, which didn't help advance us two years ago. Who will the sabres get that isn't a FA left over ?.

Here's what I would add:
1. Ownership right now is in a good place because Andlauer has chosen to re-invest in the team at all levels, such as expanding staff in key areas. While the first 10 years of the Melnyk era was great, the last 10 were tough since Melnyk chose to pull resources away from the team – staff were cut, good players (with higher salaries) were disposed of, etc.
2. The strengths of Andlauer/Staios are different than Melnyk/Dorion such that pro-level scouting has been much better. Staios has a better handle on what the holes in the team are and how to fill them via trades & free agency – something Pierre Dorion wasn't as adept at. While PD always brought in good players via trades, I never felt those players were as good at fitting in with the team's chemistry. PD's pieces didn't fit whereas Staios's pieces usually do.
