  1. Montreal fans are so salty about the disrespect of the playoff run in the bubble. Fans SHOULD be excident about Demidov. It is potentially their first First line player on their team. Its probably been so hard hard having Suzuki, Caufield, and Slaf who are all Second line guys. Its a tough pill to swallow, but top line guys are well well well over a point per game.

  2. The revisionist history about the 2021 Canadiens should be quarantined and studied in a lab.

The Habs made the playoffs the year before in the play in’s. The year before that missed by a point (might’ve been 2-3)

Then in the 2021 season they were the top team for a long stretch of the season and fell out of the top spot when they lost Price and later Gallagher (who was part of the most dominant 5v5 line that season by corsi)

They were a great team that season who fell back in the standings late.

Can’t stand the way it’s categorically tossed aside by analysts cause of how bad the bottom fell out the next season. The context is completely lost. They did a shitty retool. Bergevin bought in the summer of 2020 when he knew he was gone the next season and they went on a deep run that cost them dearly. But it wasn’t some fluke it was the end of the era previous that started when price came out in 2014

  3. Is Chris Johnston just dumb or what lmao ? where were they before that ? oh lets remove a stanley cup final kekw also lets ignore they went to semi finals like 4 times in the past 12 years before rebuild lmao

  4. Habs have "2017 Leafs" vibes right now; hopefully, they don't follow the same trajectory, where Leafs fans can't even enjoy great regular season anymore…

  5. "Nobody thought the 2021 team was a cup team"
I remember someone using the word "Juggernaut"? Who said that again? I can't remember? 😉
Montreal in 2021: 18th in the league. "Total fluke"
Montreal in 2025: 17th in the league: "totally deserved"

  6. The point Chris Johnston is that the team was not in the process of rebuilding until Bergevin was replaced, he didn't believe Montreal could hack a rebuild.

They aren't dominating teams sure but at 18-6 they seem to be doing well within the division

  7. CJ wasn't discrediting the 2021 run. Habs fans in the comments are either intentionally taking what he said out of context or are just too stupid and chronically online to understand his point.

  8. Seems like there’s a little bit of underlying tone from Chris about the Habs doing well and it’s coming across on the podcast and seems like according to the other comments below I’m not the only one. The biasness for leafs is coming through from Chris… disappointed. Cheers

  9. Im a Habs fan and I'm embarrassed by the sensitive morons in the comments. The same mad Habs fans are the same ones that wanted Bergevin fired for so long because the team was going nowhere.

  10. I remember the hype of Lafleur arriving. This is very similar. Of course, no internet back then, but the newspapers and Hockey Night in Canada were all intensely covering it.

  11. I think 2021 was a Habs-style playoff run. When you think about 2014, they had guys like Rene Bourque and Dale Weise scoring goals. Doesn't scream contender to me, but they were up there anyways because of goaltending and the ability to get scrappy wins. 2010 is a similar story, with Mike Cammalleri and Scott Gomez having career-highs in playoff numbers + goaltending. Not "fluke" years by any means but I do think the Habs of recent history have a unique ability to get clutch and peak performances from guys come playoff time.

  12. Look at all the games lost to injuries from 2014 through 2022. Maybe that played a roll in how the Habs played back then.

  13. "Let's remove the Cup run" – LOL oooohhhh-kaaaaaay…. does Chris have PTSD or something? Bet if I licked my screen, I'd taste the salt comin' outta dat mouth. ☺

  14. Listening to y'all, it's like the Habs were the only team living through the covid season. Everyone was in the same boat and oh, I'm pretty DAMN sure the Leafs run would have count if they went on and beat the Habs and made it to the final. But because it's the Habs "nah it doesn't count".

  15. Have no problem with his assessment. He's just keeping things honest. Rebuilds are a process, and this is for real. Perhaps the Sabres flyers and Ottawa, yes Ottawa were all looking to pickup the pieces for the longest time. So yes, it's very difficult to build a contender.

  16. Chris Johnson what a joke of an analyst

Habs in 2021 barely got in cuz they were banged up all season.

This rebuild is 3 years in and looking good.

As far expectations just worry about your leafs making it out of first round 😂

Just stick to covering Leafs Chris, the Summer break is longer

  17. Man you don’t need to take it so personally. The bubble season is hard to put into words. Weber and Price playing in playoff style games tho, they’re hard to beat when the rest of the team has bought in.

  18. Swing and a miss on the Demidov segment from Chris.

Can't just null and void the Cup finals appearance and the experience in big games from core pieces

  19. they've never had a full rebuild until Hughes and Gorton took over, and they hired an actual
    "President of Hockey Operations"
    Development team..

Bergevin his time as GM, was just Alot of doom and gloom.
so many bad management decisions, trying to patch holes in a Roster instead of addressing major concerns that the Organization needed. basically trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. is best way to explain his tenure. lol.

but guess what that's never going to happen, if you want something done do it right!!

buut he obviously wasn't suited for the job,
so he was relieved of his duties.

  20. Why is Montreal the only team to have passed on Michkov. He went 7th. So taking out 1 that’s 5 teams that didn’t draft him.

  21. If you look at it MTL fans are simply getting over excited. What they need is scoring depth they were near bottom league last year. Laine deal made a big difference this year and demidov should help them down the road. But you need a great team down middle. Suzuki had a good year but they need more depth and need to draft a top center. Kaprivov took years become he came to NHL and made an impact. Slavkovsky is underwhelming second line talent. 20 goal scorers are a dime a dozen. Just making the playoffs won’t cut it long term if your goal is winning a championship. Suzuki is having a decent season but he’s not a top 10 center in the league.

  22. Montreal had the same chance of winning of any playoff team! Carey Price was instrumental along with the rest of the Habs!

  23. Chris is the worst
    Habs hater Leafs homer
I’ll pass on listening to this guy
And he had my comment removed
I guess he doesn’t respect free speech
