  1. JD is absolutely correct. Stlolarz is 6' 6". He's trying to direct rebounds to favorable areas. Stolly is doing a pretty good job of getting in front of the first save.

  2. JD is just really passionate. IF you watch his show and not just leafs talk, you'll hear and see how much he's been building up for this. I think it was a bit of an adrenaline pod for him too. At the end of the day, like they said… the good side of the experience really showed tonight

  3. Great WIN! Everybody was GOOD! PERFECT? No. But NO team has EVERY PLAYER perfect, for a whole game. EVER!

So stop being so negative and looking meticulously for minor flaws for content?! I could talk for HOURS about my favorite team without resorting to combing a game for flaws, to take away the enjoyment of a win!

  4. Flyers fan here . Scott Laughton's main attribute will be his mental toughness that the Leafs have seemed to be lacking in the past. He will not crack when things get tough. He will hold it together.

  5. If you look, the one player that played great for the Sens was Tkachuk, who played 4-nations. 2 PIMs where both guys went, but physical and generating great chances. And Stolarz was the biggest difference maker.

  6. flyers fan, the first penalty against the sens was not a penalty. it was 2-1 at that point and the sens had outshot the leafs in a pretty tight game. that called opened the game up, bad officiating. leafs still soft

  7. Grieg def was going in like that to cause damage on Stolarz- Leafs needed to have a stronger response to that as If the Leafs lose Stolarz they are cooked

  8. OMG, one game and here comes the parade, I said sens in 6, and sticking to that. Rush out and buy them leaf jerseys, as it was planned, and maybe buy 2, that way you will have 1 to throw on the ice when they get beat out ,LMAO, you guys are a joke ,year after year

  9. Looking at the highlights, you can compare them with the Leafs playoffs highlights of the last six years…and see immediately the striking contrast between Berube’s playoffs Leafs and Keefe’s playoffs Leafs. Stellar goaltending. A heavy, physical game. North-South movement, instead of fancy evasions. Careful, no-risk defense. A greater contribution from non-core players. Goals from MULTIPLE defensemen instead of just Reilly. Net presence in the form of Knies and Tavares. The Leafs did not play “too cute”, which Berube identified early this season as the core of the problem with the Leafs style of play. Instead, it was old-school hockey, simple, physical, aggressive, yet, counter-intuitively, with a huge emphasis on outstanding goaltending and solid, well-coordinated defense. Shots on goal were 33-24 by Ottawa, and for the first time, it didn't matter…because the Leafs weren't playing that "skills", sharp-shooter based game they'd been playing the last 6 games.

The much maligned Core 4 were not broken up, as Leafs fans had been screaming for. The goalie they faced was one they’d faced on multiple occasions previously under Boston. They even fired fewer shots on him. But looking at that game, the end could never have been in doubt by the end of Period 2. THIS is a team that’s built for the playoffs. The previous six seasons, they were only pretenders…flashy, but no substance; always close, but just short. We have Chief Berube to thank for opening up our eyes to the difference.

  10. Stollarz was great. His rebounds control was questionable at times. Sens played sloppy which resulted in penalties. The refs were awful. JD is just being contrary.

  11. Look up the Ridley Greig's suspension, it's the exact same play; he's a dirty player who cross-checks guys in the mouth. Confirmed by the Times he will recieve no addtional penalization. What a joke, George Parros needs to go man jesus christ.

  12. If the two teams traded jerseys this would have been the Leafs in previous years, taking over eager penalties and getting blown away. One thing for sure, that level of physical intensity will be hard to maintain so make sure to pick your spots. And Mr. Matthews needs to have his head on a swivel when in his own zone without the puck. Indeed all Leaf defenders seem to be puck followers rather than defenders. But congrats to Toronto on a good start.

  13. PS: Notice we don't even call them the "Core 4" any longer very much. Why? Because there ISN'T the same core anymore. Stollarz and Woll are core. Knies is core. Eckman-Larson is core. Morgan Reilly is core. Domi is (somewhat) core. So is Robertson. All of these guys are indispensable and you can't imagine the Leafs doing well in the playoffs without any of them. And everyone of them seem to KNOW it. They KNOW they are indispensable.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is a team, not a clique or a country club. And once that gets going, you're not going to stop it anytime soon.

I'm not ready to say the Leafs will go all the way this year after watching Game 1. But if they keep this up, they are going to make the second round hard for Tampa Bay or the Panthers, at the very least…and have a great chance of getting to the finals (we'll see what they look like at that time).

If they face TB, I'd say their odds are far better. I am not liking their odds vs. Bobrovsky, Tkachuk, Marchand and Bennett…happy to be proven wrong.

  14. Sammy great as always, not sure why JD was in a “I am right and you are wrong” mood. Telling your viewers to “eat it”, common man chill and let’s stick to positive leaf vibes!

  15. Lalonde on the panel after the game; I really liked the Sens game. They did a lot of good things. That panel was over the top in love with Ottawa. Thank goodness for Bieksa who seemed the only one willing to say much good about the Leafs.

  16. The Sens lack of discipline tonight was the Leafs in many prior seasons! Shoot yourself in the foot. Berube has his team dialed in and focused. Sooo refreshing. And the pp actually works!

  17. The way things are shaping up, with that cross-check to the face on Tavares, and that "oopsie" injury attempt on Stolarz, I don't actually mind if someone on the Leafs goes out with intent to injure Ridley Grieg now. Get him before he gets us, pulling a Dale Hunter or Todd Bertuzzi on a star player or goalie, and it's too late; he's got that mindset. Prison rules.

Ryan Reeves or a new guy like Blake Smith can take one for the team, and get this guy off the ice for the rest of the series.

  18. The 5 on 5 play was quite even .The obvious difference in the game was the special teams .Sens took a lot of dumb penatlies that I am sure they regret and the LEafs capitalized .Look for the Sens to be much more disciplined in game 2 .They seem to have found a weakness in Stolarz -his rebound control ( or lack of ) .This series is far from over .Look for the Sens to play a more discilined game in game 2 .If they stay out of the box then this will be a very close series

  19. Strange how the TLM got a fair whistle against a Canadian team in the playoffs. You know, unlike the one-sided ones that they got against U.S. teams in years past.

  20. Stamkos mckinnon ovechkin and yzerman were chokers till they weren't. These players were all considered chokers for the 1st decade of their careers and they have 1 thing in common. They all fought through the process of becoming a winner with their original team. It always takes time to develop a winning team so terrible that they draft 1st overall. One day you turncoats will turn to the leafs and tell everyone what they will know already…… like usual

  21. Fully agree with Sam on the rebound control, but it happens, not necessarily a negative on Stolarz, but he could improve on that for sure.

  22. JD Bunkis trying so so hard to play the "boldly objective" guy 🤮 Let the talent talk Bunkis, no one is here to listen to you.

  23. Ullmark: Sens nightmare Freddie.
Rielly is horrible: doesn't box out: goal, 3 line giveaway for a breakaway, doesn't come to JT's aid when Grieg crosschecks.
