Hey Oilers fans. Here is a short conclusion of game 1 from a german hockey fan. What i saw in the last 20 minutes giving me hope for the next games. Ok. The 6th goal looked like a sketch in a bitter sweet comedy. But pls. remember also some really good saves by Stu during the first 2 periods. In the first 40 minutes i saw a team that haven't realized that the play offs started. Also Drai and McD. In the last 20 minutes i saw a complete different team. They fought, they ran and they played with heart and an iron will. The 4 goal lead by LA maybe was exactly THE kick in the ass that everyone needed to get into the play off mode. In the last 20 minutes one of the (or maybe the) best defense in the entire league stumbled and got 5 goals against. Mentality, spirit is the key in the play offs and this is awaken now. Yep. This unlucky punch in the last seconds could be more worth as a lucky OT win. Only my opinion.

Man, I signed out at like 10 minutes left after that disaster of a call of the puck going over the glass, down 5-3 going into a double minor penalty kill I assumed they were doomed. Next thing I know it's 5-5 by the time I was done showering. THEN, by the time I booted up my PC again to watch what I thought was about to be a wild overtime, I saw the chat spamming omg and 6-5….then my stream kicked on and the Oilers were already behind again…what a night….X_X
Skinner is weak but Bouchard should sit out and watch what defenders do until he catches on

Why dont we talk about the goalie coach? Kinda getting annoyed with the stuart skinner narrative. Its not just him that isnt prepared to win a game. Our entire team shit the bed in the beginning. Bouchard is a liability, even if you take away his oopsies. Skinner didnt lose us the game, we outscored and bad ones he let in. I believe we lost because of poor coaching and not boxing the net like we should among many other things. Definitely dont agree with this take this time Austin.
Hindsight 20/20 but the Fredric/Janmark/Skinner line would have been perfect to close the 3rd period out after tieing the game. They were rested and already scored and deserved to have been rewarded with some key icetime – unlikely to have let a goal the other way.
If Knob is going to dog our top guys like this everygame they wont last for the cup run.
That said, Knob is FINALLY giving Perry the icetime he deserves and playing regularly with our other top playmakers (and yes Perry is a top playmaker, even if he is slow). Likewise, Skinner is also getting more top time. Knob even put Nuge on D for crunch time – instead of Nurse lol this is the kind of thing we've been asking for all season.
Goalie situation man, the Knuckler was a fluke. No more adredious than Bouchard's blatant slot giveaway. Skinner got a shutout and has looked solid enough after coming back despite this game. Picard didn't step up when he had the chance to show that he's any better option. If anyone should be sitting on the bench all next game it's Bouchard. Stu is the best we've got.

Bouchard's D is worse than Skinner…
What I take from this game is it did take us awhile to get going which is fine. If we continue to play like we did for the last half of the game, this will be over in 5 like last year. The 6th goal was a back breaker and of course the person to blame is skinner. But he didn't see the puck at all so how can you blame him when he didn't even know it was coming. He played solid for that 5 on 3 that he took a lot of grade a shots. That said, he's not a #1, I am not sure why management can't see it.
Giving up 6 goals is never good but wasnt really any soft ones… the last one was a fluke bounce and 4th one he could have had but two guys uncovered right in front of net also a problem
I think the winning goal can be explained by Skinner being screened at the moment the Kings player 'shot' the puck, so he never saw the release. Add to that the knuckleball / change up speed (how many time have goalies been beaten by a shot that was coming in fast and slowed to a crawl by a deflection and the goalie can't stop his initial reaction speed?) and he never had a chance. Indeed, he was looking straight ahead as the puck fluttered past his shoulder.
Having said that, the Kings are a garbage team from top to bottom, side to side, front to back. Garbage goals, garbage saves. All the Oilers need to do to take them out in the next 4 straight is to recreate the third period intensity immediately, swarm their POS goalie, remove a few teeth from the D trying to keep them out of the middle and get a 3 or 4 goal lead in the first ten minutes. Last night's game quickly turned into one in which it was the Oiler's to lose.

Pickard has been better every time he plays. If Skinner plays game 2 and Bouchard gets 28 minutes you might get swept. i think you are worse than last year and Elkholm out you have no chance.

Kings fan here… It was a bad break for Skinner because there was no way for him to anticipate a floating knuckle-puck while simultaneously trying to see past a charging Foegele. Tough chance for any goalie.
In regards to the puck over the glass, it hit a cable that suspends the protection nets, that was the noise heard.

I can’t believe that the Oilers management wants to literally squander and sacrifice this epic team and moment in time (and hockey history) to continue to back Stuart Skinnner. I’ve been saying for a year that we need to get a new goalie like Silovs. We are only as strong as our weakest link….this is a no brainer.
I'm not a huge stu defender, but i honestly feel like that was a great game from him. The team really wasn't doing worth a damn in front of him for the first two periods. That last goal definitely can't be on him. He could see at all after foegele snowed him and then screened him.
I can’t believe oilers fans are not furious that 97 and 29 didn’t rest after they tied it. That’s a play that never happens if they’re not physically done. No goalie bails out this team.
It was a muffin of a goal, but the defense was absent for the majority of the game. I'm not saying Stu is the starter we need, but the D left him out to dry and you cannot put it all on him. Bouchard is a pylon. The first two goals were completely on the defense, Kings players completely open right next to the net, nobody challenging them. Goal #3, three Oilers are behind the net leaving the slot completely open (Bouchard on the ground for absolutely no reason). Goal #4 almost the exact same mistake as the previous goal, except it's a Bouchard turnover this time. NOBODY IN THE SLOT. Two LA players open right in front of Skinner. Unacceptable. Hopefully they can learn from their mistakes in Game 2, because McDavid's display of leadership and dominance cannot go to waste like that. Go Oilers.
