  1. You're not gonna tell me that there isn't some sort of shady sheisty backroom deal going on between LA & EDM lol.

Four years in a ROW of utilizing the same ineffective strategy & losing isn't a mistake, it's a deliberate choice. There's a reason he JUMPED on the opportunity to challenge that goal so fast despite what the rest of his coaching staff said.

  2. The actual turning point was Byfield's failed clear at the end of game 4. They were much more likely to get their 3rd win of the series on that play than they were in game 3 if they didn't challenge.

Also Makar and the Avs didn't really "neutralize" the Oilers; they swept them by being able to beat the Oilers at their own game. They were beating Edmonton 8-6 and 6-5 because they had the superstars on top of having better depth; the top guys went blow for blow but the Avs depth smoked the Oilers depth. Like that 2022 Avs team was basically the Kings plus MacKinnon, Rantanen, and Makar. The last team that shut them down was Winnipeg in the bubble, in possibly Hellebuyck's final good playoff performance.

  3. What happens to the Kings over the next few years as Kopitar and Doughty regress and eventually retire? Seems like they have enough young talent to keep them stuck in the mushy middle but not enough to actually contend. I'm just looking in from the outside though.

  4. That coaches challenge and Byfield trying to skate the puck out game 4 up 4-3 with 35 seconds left gets stripped and Bouchard ties it shortly after. If he just chipped it out and made the Oilers chase who knows. But those two events cost the Kings.

  5. Turkey is three strikes
Also the Blackhawks scoring 2 in seventeen seconds to win the cup is better than Edmonton scoring two in 10 seconds

  6. After watching numerous analytical videos over the last few days..
Nobody has mentioned that game one should've gone to the oilers in overtime. McDavid had all the momentum closing out the 3rd period and would've carried it into O/T.

Also all the hate on the game 3 goaltender interference challenge. If LA didnt challenge, everyone would be shitting on them for not. And no talk of the Oilers choice to not challenge the Foegele goal which was clear as day he used his stick intentionally push Pickards pad. The fact is a coaches challenge is a calculated gamble that can go either way upon review with risk or reward.

    My take is,
    Oilers lost game 1
    LA won game 2
    LA lost game 3
    Oilers won game 4
    Oilers won game 5
    Oilers won game 6

Edmonton has demonstrated over and over they refuse to "start" a game on time, yet again can consistently win games at will while only playing 20-40 minutes of actual hockey. Its been this way for too many years to count.
This team does NOT need a vezna goaltender to win, they need team buy-in of defensive accountability, above average to average goaltending and the offense will take care of itself.

It flabbergasts me to hear everyone in shock that the Oilers beat the Kings, unwilling to acknowledge that Edmonton has a really really good team. When they decide to play, there's not a team that can touch them.

Yes, I am an Oilers fan from Alberta. But I'm also a hockey fan and am the first one to call out the oilers in frustration for playing shitty, and praise the opposing team for playing well.
Even if its the Leafs lol😉

  7. Hockey psychology is a real thing, when your leading in the 3rd period there's something in the game that changes, not always but it's always lurking, when Dallas was behind it was the perfect spot for them, I said if they had a 2 goal lead in the 3rd they'd be in trouble, but the hockey Gods came through.

  8. Pickard isn't incredible, and he won't steal them any games (at least, not likely), but that's just it. In Edmonton, you don't have to be incredible. The offense will take care of you.

Stuart Skinner, is just that friggen bad. He cost them the first two games in that series, and idgaf what anyone says. He had a few where he had little chance, but he let in some meatballs.

Goalie needs to make a few big saves each game in the playoffs. The type of save that makes you jump out of your seat in amazement. Pickard can do that. Not on a nightly basis, but he won't have to.

I feel far, far, far better with journeyman Pickard in net, than Skinner. I think Skinner's days in Edmonton, are over, personally. He is radioactive with the fanbase.

  9. You know how skewed the Look on the oilers is when it is said "McDavid and Drai had not that good of a series scoring wise" one at 11 the other at 10 points both with a 4 point game.

  10. Did byfield get the puck out yet? No? Still on his stick? Ok let me know when….what? Its at center now?….well thats great that means…wait its a faceoff?…so kings got the empty netter? No? Right cuz the puck is still on byfields stick of course…..why is everyone celebrating? 🤦‍♂️

  11. I think it's hilarious that Dangle says the Oilers are deeply flawed when they went to game 7 SCF and Leafs can't get past the 2nd round. I would look in the mirror for a while

  12. They never shutdown 2 players. What ever happened to a guy shadowing a player ? Can't catch McJesus? A couple good slashs to the ankles will slow her down lol.

  13. Man… I am the worse. I counted Oilers out after the first 2 games.

Like, honestly, I couldn't see the Oilers coming back. Then I heard about this 'controversy' and I thought no way…

  14. First game the winning goal was a lucky knuckle puck, after it was tied up coulda told yous something. But nope just doubt….. 😂😂😂

  15. Only in hockey can a team lose four playoff series in a row to the same opponent and be adamant that the losing team is better.

  16. Plain and simple. Oilers were the way more desperate and hungry team and it was clear as day to see. They wanted it way more. LA is a better team than the oilers this year but it didn’t matter. These Oilers are on a mission and will continue to find a way even when they are being out played.

  17. I love all the reasons Jesse thinks Hiller shouldn’t be the kings coach because of the system they play but yet picks the kings to beat the oilers lol

  18. Its simple. We leave Skinner at home, Pickard is our man, and if he gets hurt, then injured Pickard is our backup. Probably our best bet. (And well we're doing lineup shakeups, lets but Bouch on the wing, he obviously doesn't like playing D)

  19. The Kings got outcoached in my opinion. Running 5 D with 4 of them gobbling up a lion share of minutes will wear you out. Tactics of shutting down the neutral zone can work well to maintain a lead in regular season but good coaches will change tactics when facing the same team night after night. Oilers made some key plays, got a bit of puck luck, got the momentum then won the series. I'm an Edmonton fan so I'm happy but I sorta feel bad for Kings fans because losing 4 years in a row would be maddening.

  20. The Leafs do the exact same thing Jesse; if they go up by 2-3 goals, they go into a prevent defense and stop playing hockey. All they do is chip it out or ice the puck over and over again, making it a shooting gallery of the goalie/ defense.

  21. Jesse is right that Hiller needs to go, but he didn't lose the series because of that challenge. The Oilers failed a challenge in game 1 and lost the game, but that's quickly forgotten because 1) they killed the ensuing penalty and 2) they won the series anyway. It wasn't a good challenge, but sometimes challenges go awry.

That being said, Hiller's deployment is more than a bit questionable. In the disastrous game 4, Joel Edmundson led the team in time on ice with 36:16 on 50 shifts. Brandt Clarke only had 11:58 of ice time, and Moverare, who was only there because Spence was a healthy scratch, played only 2:26. Yes, game 4 was nearly 80 minutes of hockey, so somebody was going to end up with 35+ minutes, but Edmundson should never be that guy. Edmundson is a third-pairing guy! You would play Doughty, Mikey Anderson, or Gavrikov over him every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Ultimately, it's a problem with the Kings' coaching philosophy. Clarke had one shift, maybe two in OT, even though at that point of the game, you need to score. Clarke has had his struggles in the defensive zone, no doubt about it. But he can also help you score a goal, or at least force the Oilers on the defensive. Instead Hiller kept sending Edmundson out there only to see him getting pinned in the defensive zone to no one's surprise. He was trying not to lose instead of trying to win, even though there wasn't a lead to protect anymore (not that the Kings were any good at that in this series). As a Kings fan, it was so frustrating seeing a coach seemingly afraid of success, and it's only fitting that he fails to find it.

  22. Kings led 2-0
Kings were 42-0-2 when scoring 3+ goals and did it 5 times this series
They were 29 seconds from going up 3-1
They chased out the first string GT
    They %40 on the PP

However, the only thing in the post season that matters is FITNESS,HUNGER,HEART,RESILIENCE, structure and skill don’t come into play until the intangibles are matched ! And the oilers are a million % better those then the Kings !
