It was way too easy to say a lot of things and talk a lot of absurd nonsense after that crushing loss, even for myself. But with time, cooler heads prevail. The team is good and will have a chance next year. They've just got to get over Dal. I'm hoping for a rematch next playoffs. As many as it takes, until Col finally does it. This GM team has balls and does whatever they can to give the players the best chance possible. You don't make it if you aren't willing to take risks, and these guys are MAJOR risk takers. AWESOME! The players will somehow have to believe going into their next series with Dal. They'll meet again, and Col will have made a few more positive tweaks to its roster.
Rantanen is amazing, yet was still hugely underrated. Maybe not anymore. Gotta give immense respect to Dal, Deboer, and Rant. That team is a monster. Col will have an entire offseason to figure them out. They kinda of have to get to work on that immediately. Anyhow, there is always a cost to winning the Stanley Cup. It just makes what Crosby has done even more incredible, spectacular, unbelievable, unattainable, etc…

We had a very good team, this team was built to win the cup this year. Leading a game 2-0 in the 3rd and chocking the last 10min… thats the issue.
It really sucks because if we past the Stars, we could of went all the way.
And all the questions about Rantanen… he is gone and we need to get over it. (Especially the reporters) Necas is younger and Drury is another good player. Lets see how we do next year.
With regards to Rantanen, it feels like we gave up a top 10 player in the league to become above average down the middle.

3-22 PP tells the story of the series. Also, far too many bad penalties at critical times. NO CAN DO.
Hot take here but I hope they dont overreact. That was a tough loss but this was and is still a great roster. Of course changes need to be made but there arent too many teams who wouldnt happily change places with the Avs.
I loved and love Mikko and was shocked and crushed by the trade but we had to do it. Its hard to not fantasize about what might have happened if he was still on this roster but it was increasingly likely that he mightve walked in FA. It doesnt feel like it right now but the return was ok (of course I wouldve liked more but Necas and Drury are both solid additions).
Id love to see some changes to the d corps and to the forward corps but people acting like a) this wasnt a great roster or b) the guys we wont to move wont have value I think are upset in the moment, not thinking rationally. Guys like Manson, Girard, Colton, etc will have value. Its not like wed have to pay teams to dump the contracts.
All in all, it was a BRUTAL loss but Im still stoked to be a fan of this team and excited to see what the future brings. For me personally, its not THAT hard to imagine their path to winning the cup again

So weird to defend Bennett at all. The seam pass and the bumper are designed systems that he would've endorsed. When you do that for 89 games it's pretty clear it's not the players forcing and Bennett not adapting anything new to better suit the team. Guy isn't a good pp coach, he just had elite talent making something from nothing.
Entertainment value +8 for the year. Betting odds had avs going one more rd. PP/ PK – 8. Coach B needs to go thats just life in nhl. Good coach just life in nhl. Team is solid.

YOU MESSED THIS UP! Trading Rantanen was a HUGE mistake. Dallas got him for just 12M because you guys rushed. Mikko has 88 postseason games with 113 points. He is 7th in all-time points per game in playoff and 4th on active players. WHO TRADES a player like that!?

He ended signing 12M with Dallas because the Avs looked at Mac's and Makar's outdated contracts and didn't understand how the market prices have gone up since then. Marner is getting 14M for the same reason, and you guys think 12M is too much for a better player. Are you guys drunk or what?

Ray Bennett was out of his depth, stop making excuses for him. Telling us the Avs powerplay was top 10 in the NHL is moot. That roster should be top 3. No excuses.

Had to make the Mikko trade because we couldn't afford to keep everyone and be a team to compete for the Cup. With that said this team had enough talent to win the CUP and more talent than Stars but they played with more heart than we did. This team doesn't do the little things to win in the playoffs.
Sakic and CMC have made a lot of trades but not since the CUP has any of these trades really worked out. Maybe Goalies this year will work out but all the others nope. Nelson was absent in the playoffs, Marty was here and there. Cale wasn't much in the playoffs.
i think the Avs structure needs to change. The PK was terrible in the playoffs. Agree with you that the Pratt should be out. Couldn't stop the pass down low and dallas took advantage. Defense is to small. Got punished alot. Don't like the Bedsy system

Eric – you know more about Hockey than me. But this team plays below their talent. They have done this for what the last 3 playoff years. They lose to less talented teams. The trades haven't worked and we have nothing to trade anymore or picks to make this better. We are in CAP jail. You talk about the Coaching and structure but it hasn't produced so to do the same thing year and year doesn't make sense. We have to change. Defense is small, gets taken advantage of in the playoffs. Couldn't hold a lead, played not to lose instead of to win. Yes, LOC dog. but the others don't play with that same FIRE and determination. MAC had points but his passes at times were terrible and causes some bad blue line turnovers.
I know. I have lots of thoughts and comments. Were I think Bedsy didn't help was his line make ups. His line combos weren't working and we had examples where Nelson, Marty and whoever were on the 2nd line and did well but he put Marty back with MAC and that didn't do anything. Not optimistic about this off season and what next season will do. Feel it will be like this year. out in round 1.

Much will be talked about the Rantanen issue in this series and so be it. I still think they made a prudent long term decisions in trading top end talent for depth. That is the least of any of the mistakes MacFarland and Sakic have done over the past few years because you know? That was the salary cap freeze that forced their hand. Since 2020, the cap has gone up a measly $1 or 2 million….there is just no way you can keep a Stanley Cup team together under such financial constraints. People keep fantasizing about retaining Kadri…how nobody can say.
But that brings me to how disappointingly weak these questions were. You want to indict MacFarland, you have to ask him about his inability to sign a decent 2C. You have to ask him about spending real assets to fix the goalie situation. You have to ask them about all the stupid rental players they got that did nothing for the Avs except cost them valuable draft picks and prospects, guys like Lars Eller, Scott Walker..players we don't even remember.
You also have to ask them about their inability to bring in pieces from the draft. We have 3 players left on this team that were actually drafted by the Avs.
These are the two objectively best teams in the west. If this was a conference final matchup and got the same result, I wouldn't be as sad. Avs didn't do everything right, but they played better than most teams advancing now. I believe anyway. Yeah, I thought this run was going to be special. Keep this fire going and go after it next year.
