Islanders should trade down several times and accumulate draft capital for NEXT year and absolutely tank in 2025-2026. They could end up with four high prospects in a way better draft pool. But they won't because nobody ever thinks long term like that. Cheers from Ottawa🍁
Misa had the same points as Tavares last OHL season in two less games. Beast. Shaeffer plays just 17 games and is a shoe in for #1? I want Misa, then trade an asset for a young top 4 mobile D.
As an Islander fan, i feel like Schaefer is probably the pick but as a non hockey scout/expert, it feels weird that he's thought of so highly after being injured for most of the season. Makes me want Misa over him but heck, i still can't believe they won the lottery. Even if they pick Hagens. What a blessing this is.
i still think its rigged they cut to commercial and then we come back and the biggest market in the Nhl, magically jumps 10 spots seems a little to good to be true

Who says the draft lottery prevents tanking? Both New York and Utah knew that they would be one-and-done if they made the playoffs. So, they tanked to get into the lottery. Watch for more borderline playoff teams to use this strategy in the future.
Isles need a big time player and there really isn't one but Schaeffer gives you likely a first line D man so it is the best they can.Schaeffer does play a lot like other NHL defensemen likes to rush it up pinch in deep go to the net in other words doesn't care much about defense but is just really good.
IMO Misa would be big mistake bottom teams looking for that LEADER will not find it in Misa.

If The New GM does not pick Schaefer he should be fired immediately! Hands down you take the best player and everyone has Schaefer as #1. If the Islanders want another pick in the top five to take home town boy Hagens then Trade Dobson for that pick and let another team pay Dobson who can’t play defense 9 mill a year! Otherwise just take Schaefer and be Happy! You want to give Dobson a bridge deal then fine! Adding Schaefer and 2 more first rounders next year will really help rebuild the youth of this team. Also would be great if Darche was given the GM role with Holland as President. Then sign Isaac Howard making him immediately one of your top 6 left wingers. Sign Boeser and let Kyle Palms go free agent! The new GM really could transform the team into a special team in a 2 to 3 year period. Hopefully the new GM is Bold and up to dealing whoever it might be to advance The Islanders future.
How can you say who the islanders will pick when you don't know who the GM is going to be

Getting a legit NUMBER 1 DMAN is like finding a unicorn.
I'd rather grab Dmen off of FA than spend a #1 pick on them because of how inconsistent their development is compared to forwards. Islanders have been desperate for scoring and a true dominant forward since forever, Misa has to be the pick
There is just no Gavin McKenna this draft so I could see Islanders maybe trade down considering there is no generational talent on the board.

They need scoring. Top wingers, puck moving D, solid centers. They really could use all 3 of those guys but that would be greedy so ideally go with the harder position to fill which is D. Wingers and scoring come at every draft. But Power and Dahlin in Buffalo are the last #1 D and neither is a difference maker on their crap team so there is risk with Schaefer since he profiles like Dahlin.
You take the best player and that’s Schaefer.
Should be Misa. Not sure why the Isles would trade Dobson either.
