I don't watch YouTube lots, great content I was directed here from a Canes fan from X
Great video man! Could not catch the game, really appreciate the breakdown!
got some feedback for you. let the clips play through one time while you’re talking about the general overview and then play a second time and pause them as you go into more detail. the way you continuously pause makes it difficult to see the plays at real speed. loving the breakdowns otherwise.
They try to overwhelm you with dumb shots from everywhere and with their speed. Caps didn’t play their best, and still almost shut them out. I still say Caps in 6-7
Good breakdown! Not much of an X’s and O’s guy when it comes to hockey so nice to have things explained in a simple way! Huge canes fan here, but good luck to Winnipeg the rest of the way!
Great analysis. Freddy Andersen is good. Do you think Marner would be a good fit for Carolina? I'd like him to stay a Leaf, but my spidey-sense is tingling.
I feel like a lot of people are focusing on the number of shots. But the stat that stood out to me was the o-zone time. It was like 33 min to 16 min. Even for Carolina, that was a lot.
No Alexeyev fcked us.
First time viewer and loved your analysis. I hope this helps others better understand how and why the Canes play the way they do. Each shift is a cumulative effect to wear the opponent down and make mistakes both physically and mentally. The system is also why not every player is a good fit. Everyone buys into being a 200 foot player and even if they are on the smaller side like Jarvis, Stanky, they can still pressure the puck and make plays. I look forward to future videos. Thanks for your great analysis!
Like the analysis. Big Canes Fan!
You could fit what I know about hockey in a thimble and have plenty of room left over, but I really enjoyed your explanation of the game and how you break things down. Great channel, I will be back for more! I am curious, since these guys are all great athletes, how can Carolina sustain this level of exertion while other teams wear down? It looks to me like they're all running around like madmen all the time anyways? Is it conditioning, mental discipline, what is so disruptive or unique about what the 'Canes do? They seem like a bunch of gym rats that pester you to death, i love it 😂.
How did I not know you exist. Great breakdown, and you’ve found a new regular.
It was outskating out hustling from start to end. The Caps were fortunate to even get to overtime
Impressive breakdowns, easy SUB. As a caps Fan this was tough to watch the endless onslaught of pressure from canes, but glad to see LT making solid saves. Need more offensive zone time and shots in Game 2. Ill be there cheering on the bois. Go Caps!!
I know these guys are gonna leave it out there, and a lot of canes players were hit too, but I can't help but wonder if 6 or 7 games of blocking shots is gonna take its toll on both teams.
I saw a Caps fan talking about the posts robbed them and that the canes only won by 1 goal!! If we start counting posts and could-haves and should've beens the canes should have 7-8 GPG because of all the shots. Such a joke. Going to be a good long series. I got canes in 7. (4-6 OT min)
Awesome content dude. Been lurking for a year or so but your analysis is the most thorough I’ve seen on YouTube and far better than national media analysis.
Got yourself a new subscriber today.
Sure. That is what happened. Good game.
Posts are two things, good positioning from the goalie to take away easy shots, or bad accuracy from the shooter. Probably be a lot more bar hits in this series. Especially since Svech like to aim high.
i am now a new sub, i appreciate the neutral pov. Die hard canes fan btw
We seem to have found the Carolina Hockey Fans (and a few Caps Fans). Thanks so much to the great fan bases of each! I'll see you all for Game 2.
As a Canes fan I'm really glad to see someone analyzing and breaking down our gameplan and strategies like this! The national media (in the US) tends to focus on other teams, and often doesn't see what exactly our team is going for (case in point some of what was said on the ESPN broadcast last night). Super excited to watch the rest of this series, hoping we can close things out quickly now that we have a road win!
It’s a truism maybe but the Canes just take away time and space with that smothering forechecking and also backchecking.
With Carolina taking so many bad shots, how is it we did not get 1 fast break? C’mon man
Caps didn’t even try.
I’m a Canes fan born and raised in Raleigh. I have never played hockey in my life outside of street hockey with my neighbors as a kid but your breakdowns help a lot! Keep up the awesome work you’re doing, I and I’m sure many others appreciate it!
Let Go Canes!! #RaiseUp
As a Carolina fan we all saw it coming. We just believe in this team. Simply never give up. Really interesting year for them especially with the Rantanen debacle. Too bad he had to be a head case and couldn’t see the benefits of playing for a team that knows how to make sacrifices for each other. Tulsky made a brilliant move and brought in players who embraced the culture. Been watching hockey for 60 years. Never been so proud of an entire organization.
hey, Canes hit 5 posts…..coulda been 3,4,5 -1 easily Canes
Canes are just better.
Caps fan here, brutal game. Hopefully Game 2 is the opposite!
Appreciate all your content but especially my Canes. We don't get a lot of love in the NHL community as a team or for our playstyle. You deserve more subs/views
A bit late to this one, but thanks for the analysis! I love stuff like this and it definitely helps me learn what to look for. This game reminded me of the NJ series game 1 that you also did analysis on, and this series should be interesting too.
Thank you for a true assessment of Canes' gameplay! This was awesome.
I guess it depends on where you hit the bar. If you hit it high or wide I see your point. But svech hit it pretty close to the bone. A millimetre lower or inside and you’ve got a goal. You know the game better than I do (that’s a fact). I just think snipers get it slightly off and it might seem like a miss, but it’s sooo close to being a highlight reel goal. Wash did the same thing a few times here tbf.
Canes fan here. Great content. We love our canes here in Raleigh and hope this year all the hard work pays off. Nice to pick up that W in game 2. I’ve subscribed. Thanks for the breakdown
Love this analysis! I never played hockey so I’m learning the game through watching it, and the national media seems to prefer bashing the Canes to explaining what makes us good. This video was super helpful for me as it explained things that I’ve been watching for a decade but never fully understood. Thank you!! (Go Canes!)
Love your videos!!!
9:50 — I never saw a good angle of this myself, but I've heard multiple people say after the game that the puck hit a stanchion here, which is why it bounced out into the middle like it did.
I really loved the way my Canes played in this game, we picked right back up where we left off in the double OT game 5 vs New Jersey, just textbook Canes hockey: completely dominating the possession, and relentlessly peppering the opponent with shots. And we did it on the road, no less! If we can continue to assert our system and keep controlling games like this, especially on the road, then I really like our chances to go far in these playoffs. Keep it up, Canes!
And I love the appreciation for Jaccob Slavin: In my (maybe slightly biased) opinion, he's not just the single best defender in the NHL, he's the best by a long shot. I absolutely believe that his play and defensive leadership is the biggest contributing factor to the Canes being such a strong defensive team – we're damn lucky to have him. Cale Makar might be able to score with the best, but I'd take Slavin on my defense every time! Grats to him on his first playoff OT goal, he definitely deserves it!
Loved the analysis. I'm a Caniac so I see the beauty in their chaotic style, but National media seems utterly confused and it's just mindless shooting.
