I agree with you Gil 100% that The NY Islanders organization needs to move on completely from Lou Lamoriello.
I also respect what Lou Lamoriello has accomplished as a Hall of Fame GM from the past but it’s time The NY Islanders move on completely with a fresh start. Maybe even a new Coach is necessary too.
Going forward hope The NY Islanders pick the best possible new GM selection and don’t rush into the decision process and selection.
Regarding the NHL draft, I’m also excited that The NY Islanders got the first selection and also Hope The NY Islanders select the best most predictable hockey player prospect.
If I was a GM and owner I would try to build The NY Islanders with the best goaltending and defense possible in the NHL first then work on getting an elite, talented goal scorer, as Hall of Fame GM Bill Torrey and Coach Al Arbour did when they helped to build a Stanley Cup Dynasty.
The Islanders are not going to be successful when losing games like 9-2, 6-1, 5-0, etc etc. The NY Islanders organization have a lot of work to do also by making trades, navigate through the bad contract deals, and make better acquisitions/ signings.
The NY Islanders also don’t forget need a better team playing in Bridgeport as well. Hope things work out for the better. Go Isles!

I actually don’t think this is that big of a deal. Lou is probably past going to another team and starting from scratch, and despite some of his unorthodox “operating policies,” it’s ridiculous to think he doesn’t have valuable knowledge to share with a new GM, especially if it’s someone doing that job for the first time.

Keeping him in the front office even if it's in an advisory role will benifit absolutely no one in the Islanders organization.
Ken Holland was heard saying that he was not interested in the Isles GM job.
Which I and a lot of people would've preferred that he wasn't a consideration.
The choice for GM needs to be made quickly with the draft a little over a month away. But it needs to be made wisely, and without the specter of Lou Lamoriello lingering around the front office.
