Carolina is simply the better team with the hotter Goalie. It wouldn’t surprise me at all for them to finish the series in DC in the next game.
Dang, I really thought that the Caps would dominate with a heavy style ala St Louis in round 1, but it seems like it's the Carolina team game that is unstoppable now.

Caps will come out strong next game, but if carolina can score first, and score early, I think Washington fades out.
Killing off that 4 minute PP was the game for me. 1-1 going into the 2nd is a very different game.

If the greatest goal scorer of all time can only bury one on a 5 on 3 then you know the canes are playing top notch Defense. I wonder when the TV talking heads will finally notice that the Canes are a good TEAM and not just a collection of hot shot names like some other squads out there.
Goaltending has been the difference to me. Anderson stands on his head when he needs to and LT has been letting in bad/soft goals.
Washington's power play has alternated between very good and worst in the league. They drew worst in the league for the Carolina series. They've been outshot on the power play and wasted a 4 minute advantage not even getting the puck in the zone. Maybe get another power play coach next year. And they don't take Carlson off it no matter how bad he plays, and he's played very bad in the playoffs. It's been painful to watch.
What the fans didn't realize was the Caps player who Orlov interfered with was not the one who dumped the puck in. Now I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but it was obviously interference, and I tried to explain that to some of the folks around me to no avail. Passion sometimes comes with blinders.

Canes have been very impressive so far. Always fun to watch this team and they have been giving me “team of destiny” vibes lately. Maybe, just maybe, another Stanley Cup this year? Still have to finish the Caps and remain consistent the rest of the way. And even without being a high scoring team, I’ll take those W’s for Carolina no matter how they get it done.

People were chanting that the ref sucked because to that point Washington had 5 power plays and Carolina had 1. They wouldn't call anything against Washington the whole game and that's what everyone was upset about.
The fans weren’t chanting “ref you suck” because they thought Orlov didn’t commit a penalty. They chanted it because the refs had been letting the Caps getting away with the exact same infraction all night.
I almost feel sorry for Spencer Carberry at this point. You could see his frustration when they interviewed him in one of the powerbreak.
Carolina clearly the better team and Andersen probably the best goalie in the playoffs right now imo.
Disappointed as I am a Caps fan. Without LT in goal it would have been worse. Only positive thing I can see right now from my team is Thompson in the net at this point. Carolina will win in either game 5 or 6.😢
The issue isn't with Orlov being called for a 5v3, its all the obvious non-calls by officials that kept the canes off of their own 5v3. I respect that the refs want to keep things to 5v5 and 5v4 and yes, the Orlov play couldn't be ignored, I just want them to call the Caps when they make blatant penalties on their PK. Is that so much to ask? To call the game and not just manage it?
I'll defend the "ref you suck" chant. Sure, it was a letter of the law penalty. It's also nothing compared to what they've let slide even in this series, and forget about the other Eastern matchup. It was a pretty egregious call to make in that situation, to put them 5 on 3.
I don't think Washington particularly cares. Ovie did the thing, and that's all that matters – making the postseason was just icing on the cake. Thinking he retires once his contract's up, and then the rebuild truly begins.

Caps effort was horrendous last night, didn't look like they cared to be playing. First two periods looked like preseason effort, no finishing checks, no fighting for 50/50 pucks. I thought it was embarrassing.
As a Caps fan, the Canes are just a better team. Completely outplayed us. Rod has our number.
