Come on Russ!! The Alumni live 30 minutes from the center. They are following the Eagles model. I think a great idea for the culture. If they don’t like it we don’t care.
This team still sucks.
I am concerned that Tocchet may not be the best hire for this team. I do trust Briere and Jonesy, but I'm concerned about how he coaches and teaches young players. This is a young rebuilding team, which doesn't have allot of talent. He's going to have to get better years out of Tippet and Forrester. I think he can teach them what they need to do to be in the NHL, but can he teach them X's and O's, which will help take them to the next level, which I think this team lacked in the years under Tortorella. That being said, Tortorella absolutely made Brink into an NHL player. He also let Michkov know the NHL is not just an "Offense Only" League, but you need to play 200 ft. Michkov may never be that but he now knows, thanks to Torts. And, for GOD Sake, please lets get a frickin Power Play coach in here that can direct a GD Power Play. When you have shooters like Tippet, Koneckny and Forrester, and a playmaker like Michkov, your power play should at least be average.
The Alumni stink goes back to that Hextal incident and it's been festering because of all the losing since. Only winning will end that narrative.

I still would not consider Tocchet a top tier player development coach – and I think that's what Flyers needed the most. Briere & Jones went with comfort in selecting Tocchet. I really hope it works out.
41 years ago Flyers went outside the box and hired Mike Keenan, 34 out of the University of Toronto, who just Coached the Varsity Blues to a Championship. The hiring worked well, going all the way to the 85 Stanley Cup finals. And than again in 87, taking Edmonton to a Seventh game of the Stanley Cup finals Flyers had the youngest team in professional Sports. That 84-85 year was referred by many as Keenans Kid's. No one knows if David Carle can be another Keenan. Odds are certainly against it.
