I remember when the Leaf fans were comparing McDavid to Matthews that they bashed how us Oilers thought McDavid was a better player than Matthews. The proof is in the who wins and had at least came within a goal or two of winning the Stanley Cup. I wouldn’t want Matthews as a third line player

Svechnikov and Pacioretty were on injured reserve the entire playoffs in 2023 for the Canes and they challenged the Panthers on a game to game basis in the ECF. It's going to be interesting how that goes this time around.
Nail on yhe head. Panthers are a team, the leafs are a bunch of highly skilled individuals, this can never win.

As a Caps fan, I cannot stress how much more 1 is than 0. I'm completely at peace with the fact that we only got 1 Cup. It felt so good after all the heartbreak. And a sentiment that was OVERWHELMING in the moment for a lot of us Caps fans was that we were so damn happy for our guys. I said often that I didn't even care about how it made me feel as a Washingtonian, or my ability to boast to rival fans. All I cared about was that Ovie, Backstrom, Carlson, Holtby, etc. would never have to wear the scarlet letter of being losers. I love them so much, and it sucked to hear people rip on them. In one post-season, that narrative was dead. For those Leafs fans who bonded with their group like we did with ours, I feel genuinely bad that they won't get to enjoy that moment where the Core 4 embrace with the cup in the middle of the group hug. That's legit sad in a way not a lot of fans can understand.
Matthews isn’t cut out for playoff hockey.
He’s simply not a career playoff performer. Averages 31 goals per 82 games and is under point per game for his career. Now compare that to McDavid, Draisaitl, Kucherov and MacKinnon.
Mathews is not even in their league.
I agree its all mentality. But if they haven't learned to manage the performance psychology at this point in their career, I doubt they ever will. I was thinking a similar thing some time ago about for leafs goaltender Jack Campbell. I realize they are only 27-28 (I am 56) but they these guys have been playing competitive hockey their entire lives to prepare for this. Matthews made no reference to himself needing to be better in his comments. Every pro sport athletes need to deal with pressure – and in most cases they do.

The Leafs have 4 guys earning more than $10M per season. The Panthers have ZERO players earning more than $10M per season. (2 guys earn exactly $10M). The Panthers have a rounded out team with depth…the Leafs have all their eggs in 4 baskets. Hmmm…which one is the winning formulae?

You talk about these players you would try to get Marchand, Bennet that's great. But as a Canucks fan and a fan that roots for the last Canadian team very year until the last one goes out.
