While Ehlers is 9th on the Jets in 5v5 ice time per game, he is also 4th on the team in ice time per game in all situations.
Play with the Capitals
He's gonna go somewhere that he can play top 6 minutes. Not to be behind the 3rd line…
I'm like Meh, if he signs fine, if he ops for green pastures fine, he has a decent playoffs, but he's not going to tear up the league but he speed does often given his line a easy entry into the O zone. I think he could get 2nd line minutes consistently. Meh

Trade now because jets need personal changes and tweaking. Trade while he’s young as his time is almost up and get something good back. Jets NEED to address size down the middle. Too many finesse players not enough grit and guys that can win battles in the boards.
I say stay! Only because I'm a big fan. But he should do what's best for him.
Issue with Ehlers is his durability. Every year he misses a fair number of games.

Trade him for what you can to small for the playoffs
To be honest I have probably spent more time cursing him for his no look, no think drop passes to the other team than I have cheering for him. He is honest and hard working and very injury prone. I will miss him if he goes but there was a good reason Bones sat the guy
I think Ehlers will try free agency. Rather have Ehlers over Connor as he has a better all around game.
I'll preface this with, I've always been the hugest ehlers fan (my fave jet). I remember Gary predicting they would pick him and i went and watched a bunch of videos of him and was stoked when we got him. Ehlers would be hard to replace. Chevy would have to make a serious trade. (Here's where retaining the 1st rnd pick comes into play.) But I can also imagine a world where we retain ehlers and make a huge trade to bolster the top 6. Maybe a Jared McCann type with some term.
I want Ehlers to stay. I would also be happy if he gets a big contract elsewhere as well……he deserves whatever he wants and I would wish him all the best.
I think as jets fans we all want him to stay but the question is does he want a bigger role. There’s no doubt he has a family here and i think it’s about 50/50 if he stays or leaves. For him I don’t think it’s necessarily about money the jets will totally give him 8 million if that’s his ask
