Hey Steve! Your imaginary Stanley Cup parade should avoid QC because nobody likes the loafs here. It should avoid Montreal altogether because you'll just get the shit kicked out of you and never make it to Onterrible! But I understand, it's just imaginary!
If a new president comes in and changes the jersey back to 1993's version with Gilmour, Clark, Potvin, Andreychuck and Borshevsky as a team. I will know then that this person cares about this organization and wants to win. This version of the Leafs gave a shit!
I was joking earlier today when I thought Shanahan would be the easy guess on who’d be gone after this season. Apparently I’m psychic.
Are the Leafs in a better position than before Shanahan took the reins – eh. They have a better relationship with their Legends and honour them more, sure, but the team itself? The Highly Overpaid Core-4 being Regular Season Schedule Merchants who fold when facing real teams come the playoffs?
The end result of the Shanaplan was apparently making the Hockey Equivalent of the Pittsburgh Steelers – too good to get good draft picks, too bad to keep up with teams with any depth. I’m just wondering if whoever takes the reins next is going to try and squeeze anything they can from the current Leafs before the inevitable tear down, or if it’s time for a sell-off and a Tank Job.
Gotta say, that was the only correct solution. Now question becomes who they replace Shannahan with? Hopefully not Tortirella or other bone headed old timer. 🙄

I'm sorry to Treliving but I think his mindset will be incredibly nervous to do anything. He won't touch any players that should be traded and will just go with what he has and add new players to try to support them. I don't want that! Get rid of Matthews, trade him while you can.. he doesn't even want to be here! Move him to a team that wants him, shower him with praise and let him feel like he's loved by your organization and even more the new organization that wants him. Get your rebuild going with him.. Marner walks for maybe a 2nd and a 3rd for early talks. That's how it works but maybe nothing at all.. addition by subtraction. Nylander is the only guy I care to keep. Tavaras if he's willing to go down to 2.5 mil a season, anything more and no. Let him walk to if that's what he wants. He's made his money and honestly if I was his agent and knowing he wants to be a leaf, I would take league minimum. This team needs a fresh start and Nylander is the only guy I would be willing to see still on this team next fall. Be happy if he walked too to be honest.. I'm tired of the loser mentality. You have to hate to lose if you're a Leaf and if you don't, take a long stroll down who gives a crap lane!

I watch this and all I can hear is how similar the leafs are to the Bruins.
Bruins just in the past couple of years went through their core guys leaving in one way or another and lots of uncertainty over players staying or going. Chara, Krejci, Bergeron, Marchand.
Farm is pretty empty, they've got a few prospects and players who are interesting but nothing crazy – hopefully that changes with all the 1st round and 2nd round picks they got.
Picks were dismal for many many many seasons and boston chose to trade picks away to try and get their aging core as many cup chances as they could get
Firing coaches. Boston has become a place where a coach would be crazy to sign up for the job here, you don't know if they're keeping you around after one bad season.
Really, all in all these two teams tread a similar path.
The Dubas hiring is nothing to rave about. Actually worse than not winning the cup.

They should have blown up the whole thing after they blew that 3 -1 series lead to the Habs in 2021. But they didn't. Huge mistake.
Turns out the Shannaplan was a Shannasham.
Brendan is POS after he marched in the Israel protest, even when other players, executives, etc stayed away from that issue.
Sooo many unforced errors made by Shanahan. Honestly, these all look horrendous in hindsight, but nearly ALL of them I knew they were bad at the time:
1. Paying these players as if they won several cups after having won NOTHING!
2. Hiring Dubas. I mean this guy has been a walking talking disaster. He is incapable of evaluating what his eyes see, and has no clue what it takes to put together a winning team (talent does not equal winning, and it really never has in the nhl… every single cup winner has heart and grit and this team has nearly none of that, tanev and a couple other excepted)
3. Letting Hyman go, I mean OMG!!!
4. Giving Kadri away, seriously???!!
Those are just the top ones. Nearly everything Dubas did would go on this list (except drafting Knies – that is the only big positive thing done in Dubas era).
This era will go down as even more tragic than the Ballard years, because of all the talent wasted.

IMO, part of it has to do with the players. Auston Matthews has demonstrated year after year that he doesn't wanna work during the playoffs, and his playoff stats reflect that when compared to his season stats. Like, Matthews works hard all season and racks up a large goal count during the year, but come playoff time, he appears to slack off because he wants the season to be over as soon as possible. IMO, his behavior certainly suggests it. Marner, too, but to a lesser degree.

S,o, Shanny was brought it to bring back the respect for the franchise. Well, he did such a good job they fiired him for it.
Would the fans have thrown their jerseys on the ice the year before he took helm? Nope, and you know it too. He gave the fans a legitimate readon to hope for and maybe believe in? …, but was fired for it.
I was a hard core Oiler fan but I gave up on them because it was a boys club of idiots who ran the decades of darkness. No, Shannahan did an amazing job, but should hhave realized sooner that Dubas and Keif were misguided. Hockey is an extreme sport, that is all.

It was inevitable, Shanny did what he could in 11 years, but didn't win. Simple. Wish him all the best and that the new Prez is heads-down on the Cup and the Cup only. Going to be a messy summer for the Leafs…
I get that he achieved a lot of things off the ice with this team, and credit to him for that, but sports are a results oriented business and not only did he not produce the results required for a market like Toronto, he didn't even really instill a culture needed to get those results. When anyone wanted to challenge the status quo, they got shipped out the door. That's unacceptable for a team with this much history in it. They should've made this change years ago, but MLSE is way too slow to react. That's why I don't really have much confidence in who they're gonna bring in next, nor do I have much confidence in Brad actually doing much with any newfound freedom he gets from not having to deal with the Shanaplan that has now been Shanacanned, especially given Brad's bad moves in Calgary before he got axed.
