  1. Maybe its just me and i am old but I didnt hear anything from this that makes me believe Lalonde was the issue with this team. Sounds alot to me like the players got him fired and still are not being held as accountable as they should be. Losing Perron Ghost and Walman hurt the chemistry early on. I dont think guys like Kane and Larkin and the vet free agents did their parts early and the coach had to take the blame. Todd was just more experienced but look how the season ended for him. The exact same as Lalonde started. The players needed to play better. Period.

  2. I recommend people listen to the Podcast instead of reading an article because it misses the tone, timeline, and context of how and why he answered these questions. I left thinking that Lalonde didn't have any hot takes or bold statements, but seemed happy with his time in Detroit and understood that HC jobs only last about 3 years. The podcast hosts asked him point-blank on SY, Wallman, off-season, what it was like to get let go near the holidays. He also goes into how the media can make things blow up over nothing, citing the Vasilivsky comments he made on air. Which is kinda funny watching this video.

  3. All I remember LaLonde saying is "we have to be hard on the puck" and occasionally he talked about playing a "200 foot game". McClennan is more specific and direct. In addition he is prepared to mention names; good play and where improvement is needed. One of them is a buddy and the other a coach.

  4. I think describing Lalonde's remarks as "heat" is an incredibly overstatement. It's much ado about nothing. Could we have been better if we had Perron instead of Tarasenko? Sure. But he's the only one we would've been better with. Ghost wouldn't have helped our PK, and whatever Walman was doing in the room clearly didn't help us at all in 2023-2024, and clearly wasn't something Lalonde was interested in discussing. At the end of the day, he was there for the boys when they needed him to provide some direction, but the boys also needed to take another step forward. Hopefully we land good free agents this time around.
