Why would I put my body on the line when I’m guaranteed a multi-million dollar paycheque at the end of the season?? Easy answer, I wouldn’t. There no incentive for these guys to try after the 82nd game. A post season run only delays their vacations and risks injury. You’ll never see this team in the third round because they simply don’t want to win. That’s proven by their body language down 5-0 in the 5th game. It’s fucking embarrassing. Put me on the ice, I’ll get pucks on net or take the rat down trying. You hit my goalie, I take your top row of teeth. You slash my wrist, I punch your throat. You hit me from behind, and I bruise your kidney. That is playoff hockey. Not floating the neutral zone playing tag with a player who doesn’t have the puck. The team we have is a bunch of overpaid divas. This teams money would be better of in the hands of the gentleman who plays his guitar outside the venue every game. AT LEAST YOU INOW HE WILL SHOW UP
Since you asked so politely, here's what I'd do….
1) Give the C to anyone who really bleeds and gives 100% for the team
2) put Matthews and Marner separated, on lower lines, no special teams time, and pay the media reporters to give em hell, kinda like the old school Montreal media treatment. Repeat until they start giving what we expect them to give.
3) Make it known you're actively looking to trade those two to bottom tier teams, even make it known you're willing to lose on the overall trade value for the right kind of player, gives them an additional kick in the posterior area…
Ideally after a while, they'd probably wake the hell up and play for real. If not you've already laid some basic groundwork for the trades and analyzed the market extensively for your best options to get those key, reliable pillars you want, whatever the other team might be, the rumours of trading to bottom tier teams on a loss was after all just a rumour, no? 😉
Florida is a great team. Did anyone actually believe the Leafs could win this series?? If they do, it would be a major upset. Panthers won 3 out of 4 regular season games against the Leafs. All the noise is from wannabee fans who jump on the playoff bandwagon for a good time. The fans who know hockey are here for a long time and accept the reality of the challenge the Leafs face. Go Leafs Go!!

Marner played so well in the Four Nations series that I had hopes for him this playoff season. Not to be. No balls when it really counts. Matthews seems lost, a good solid shift and then a floater. Not sure what he doing right now. Nylander is earning his keep. Woll let in some stinkers, will be watching to see what Berube does next game.

As a Bruins fan, I’m very familiar with Toronto’s playoff struggles. The way I see it, you’re in the second round with the defending champs and you pushed a game 7 on your own ice. This is a good team, but they do have to break through at some point to justify the contracts for the core. “Great moments are born from great opportunity, that’s what you have here tonight” Herb Brooks.
God himself can’t fix this team. No matter who they sign what coach comes in, it’s Toronto a regular season team

You can say they aren’t a cup contender . But of course they’re a playoff team. They’re playing the defending cup champs. Series was never gonna be easy for them. And hey look at that they tied it up again and forced a game 7.
