As a newbie.. the fact the hurricanes are getting smoked.. proves.. the leafs were good.. they just really had a bad game.. maybe it if happened in florida they would still be in it.. I dunno.. they’re not bad at all.. the beat the senators etc
So maybe for old fans this is really frustrating.. but to me.. i thought they did good..but their biggest issue is.. when they get into their heads they are really done.. it is all a mindset.. and the panthers got to them.. also the panthers tried to injure every single one of them.. and took out the star goalie.. but ya..
If they had that last good game.. they would be going to the finals

Interesting thoughts. I like them because I was messing around on Armchair GM and I had the following Leafs going.. Marner, Reilly, Robertson, Holmberg and Kampff. I also had Leafs signing Boeser and Ehlers. Now, I am not sure about all the tangibles and how this would pan out, but what about Tatar, Fast as utility wingers. I also threw a screwball down the middle and had the Leafs sighing Ekblad if they, in fact, did move Reilly. I never thought about Kreider and he'd be interesting but again, it's a roll of the dice on a " broken" ( your words, not mine) player. I don't want the Leafs to keep playing the " if he works, he works and if not there is always LTIR" game. I can't get over all the Marner talks. Looks guys, the Leafs approached him about trading him, he said no. Leafs offered him a hell of a massive deal and guess what, he said NO. I had Tavares coming back at $4.7 million/ season. I know it's low but again, just spit balling. Like you say, if Leafs move on from Reilly, Robertson, Holmberg and Kampf, heck maybe Jarnkrok too, then that's more $$ to the cap BUT you also have more holes to fill. So here is what I messed around with.. top line of Knies/ Matthews/ Boeser.. 2nd line of Ehlers/ Tavares/ Nylander.. 3rd line of Tatar/Domi/McMann and 4th line of Lorentz/Laughton/J.Fast.. Domi as 3rd line center is not ideal but you could look at a signing of Brandon Tanev and slot him in there, move Domi to 3rd line winger instead of the money you'd sign Tatar for? I could live with a 3rd line of Domi/Tanev/McMann..
Next season watch Robertson score 30 goals and Marner moved to center and he scores 115 points but not on the Leafs.
I think the Leafs need to start looking for a new young #1D now. See if Buffalo would part with Power.

I say lick they should lick there wounds this season. Try to snag a couple draft picks from trades and whatever happens this year happens, i still think they sneak into the playoffs. This is considered a weak free agent class and if you look to 2026 McDavid, Kaprizov, Connor, Eichel & Panarin plus guys like Ovechkin, Laine, Malkin and Kopitar are all available. I'm not saying any of those 5 would sign with them necessarily but they would at least be stronger options to obviously fill the void of Marner and are better options then pretty much the rest of the 2025 free agent class.
Is Jamie Benn just another Ryan Reaves. A tough guy hasbeen in the twilight of their careers and hoping you get 1-2 years of their old selves. Obviously 40 points is more than you got from Reaves but do we need another 'this guy was great when he was 10 years younger'. Is this the Brian Leech modern era where we collect old guys beyond their peak like theyre pokemon cards.

JT is not replicating what he did last year. 3×5 is max contract. Bergeron signed for $1 or 2M per to get them a better shot at winning. Why not JT? Worth exploring. Kreider, Boeser yes, Benn no.

Cheering for Marchand felt weird during the four games of the 4 Nations tournament and I don't know how I would handle doing that for 82+ games if he were to sign with the Leafs
it is funny how people are talking about how this team is getting nuked, but like, it's just Marner that will probably leave. Like Marner's insane, but the Avs kicked Rantanen aside mid season. No one said they "blew up the team"

You're looking the 'Marner got 100 points' thing wrong. You need guys who can split the difference, because that matters come playoff time.
I am sorry but no one on the UFA list is an improvement on Marner. Say what you will about the playoffs. He has been a scapegoat since the last contract negotiation but Willie and Reilly have not performed in the playoffs but got long contracts. That is why trading will be more important to the Leafs than Free Agents. They just need to get more heart and grit players. I am open to trading Matthews as well.
I don’t know if want to watch many games next year. This team just ain’t worth the energy for me anymore.
Sounds like they need to stop giving full money the player asks for AND a no trade clause. You shouldn't have both. Either give us a break and sign for less and we can't trade you or we get the right to trade you.
Why isn't Nylander being talked about as trade bait. He's got the best market value on the team and would easily fetch 2 legit players , I would move him in a heartbeat. David Savard from Montreal is also a free agent if you're looking for a change on defense. I'd love to see the Leafs dump Rielly and sign him.

Still need a number 1 RD. Lose Reilly. Still need a 3rd line. Go after Ekblad and a depth D. Grab some 200 pounders that skate and hit. Lose Kampf,,Jarnkrok, ,,Holmberg,,Robertson.
I'm not sure why you're so high on a defense corp that gave up 6 goals in games 5 & 7 at home.

They really need a top notch goalie… seriously this tandem isn't going solve it. Year after year they invest in offence…and strangle their cap space. They need a better defence and a Wendel Clark type.
