What doesn't make sense from a Sabres standpoint you ask? Trading these guys in the first place comes from the fact that they do not and likely will not spend to the cap, thus they cannot financially sign each guy who is a RFA. Byfield makes 6.25 mil. You'd have to unload other guys to make the room, and now you are getting into McLeod territory. This is what happens when you have your own personal cap and also badly overpay your bottom players. Clifton "is just a guy," but this is a team that pays nice bucks for "just a guy"

Both of these trades are one sided and don’t work for contract reasons. K’Andre Miller doesn’t work here. He has one year to UFA, where as Peterka has several years of team control. There’s also better defenseman available and there. And Byfield doesn’t work for similar seasons, he has more years of team control

I usually am on board with the trade ideas, but this one is pretty horrendous. Trading a future 30+ goal, 75+ point forward for a defensive left shot D who peaked two years ago is crazy.

Why involve 2 Teams? Just trade with the Kings. If we HAVE to trade Peterka and Byram, I’d ask for Byfield, Jordan Spence and Alex Turcotte.
The Kings are in need of a highly skilled Lefty defenseman to play with Doughty and Spence is a Righty that would slot in nicely next to Dahlin and is skilled enough to complement his play.
I believe that Peterka has a higher ceiling than Byfield, that’s why I’d ask for Turcotte as well. He’s a highly Drafted winger that hasn’t taken off that may need a change of scenery and a different system to do that in.
While I see Peterka and Byram as better players than the 3 I think we should trade for as of today, If we need to add a 2nd, a 3rd or a player like Lafferty or Krebs to make it happen, that works too.
If both peterka and byram both want out this is a good trade especially. It’s a bit scary to get rid of JJ but Joes right, we need to beef up. We can afford to get rid of a small puck moving dman because we have ras who is at least 5x better than byram, and power who has a higher ceiling. Let’s beef up
