Robertson would be great but I really think they need to focus on fixing the defense and goaltending first. It’s just Dahlin and a bunch of question marks. Only Chi and SJ allowed more goals than us last year.

Benson should be off limits
I like Robertson (don’t like his contract), but that is a lot for one player. I’m still on the sign Peterka (he’s an RFA) and build the defense people! You do that… maybe sign a goalie (I’m not a big UPL believer but he could have a bounce back with better D next year) and a good FA and if you make the playoffs next year… players like Peterka and other will sign for longer years. I know he probably would never sign (unless we offerred 7 years 10 mil a year) but I’d love Ekblad.
No you can get far more and you can make the team better by not trading JJ, Benson and the 9th. Lets say the NYR are willing to give you Schneider and the 12th overall pick for JJ. Or lets say the NJD will give you Johnathan Kovacevic for JJ. Both of these players are Powers D partner. Then you trade Byram maybe to Detroit for Marco Kasper plus something else?
So you just got Kovacevic and Kasper which you just made the team better in 2 deals. Then you go and put a massive offer out there for Sam Bennett. Now you just changed the team with fewer pieces going out for 1 player.
If I am going to go big on 1 player it would be either of the Tkachuk bothers. I am not going to put 2 of my best young players that have a lot of value plus a 9th overall pick for someone who is not a playoff performer. How about Anton Lundell? Look at his playoff performance. David Pastrnak another example. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Players that come through during the playoffs that is who I will trade a haul for.
Right now you have 2 players that you can trade to really turn this team around. They are Byram and JJ. They will get you a Top 4 RHD and a good winger or center. There are a lot of teams that want Byram and JJ so you see what you can do to trade those 2 players for the best RHD and Top 6 forward you can get. Then target some free agents this would include RFAs as well. Matthew Knies?

I don’t see how the proposed trade would help Dallas manage the cap. Peterka is probably going to cost Dallas 7 million plus. Not a lot of cap savings. How about going after Whitecloud on Vegas and a Bryan plus package for Anderson on Calgary.
People want to keep Benson but trade Peterka, a guy who scores goals in Peterka that we NEED and want to keep a small player in Benson that does nothing.
