  1. Cant choke in the playoffs it you dont make them- "Leafs Front Office" have fun with his annual March collapse Steve.

  2. Bring in whoever you want, it won’t help the leafs, 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

  3. As a Wings fan, I have thoughts.

He’s much better as an assistant coach than he is as a head coach because he is so hyper focused on defensive hockey and a specific system that relies on specific decision making by players in tandem. The biggest factor between being a catastrophic failure and hyper successful is the defensemen’s ability to clear the puck and initiate puck possession with good zone exit passing. When Jake Walman was on the PK for the Wings, in his system, it worked to make them average. Once he was traded, his system fell apart to the tune of the worst PK in the NHL and one of the worst all time. He entirely lost the room this year and even after 3 games, the Wings forwards were talking about focusing too much on getting things right defensively. When Todd McClellan came in, he said in a practice to, “play fucking hockey” and as it turns out, that worked

I would be willing to bet one of Reilly, Liljegren, or OEL finds themselves playing extended minutes on the PK this year and does surprisingly well. Like yes Tanev and McCabe, but those aren’t surprising. That will make or break his signing as coach.

I hope he does well, but after a few years, I’m fucking exhausted by his system and the complete lack of accountability he had in Detroit until he left. I hope the best for him. Great dude, but he became a hockey terrorist by the end of his tenure.

  4. If I remember correctly, Cooper raved about the impact LaLonde had as an asst in Tampa. Could definitely see him as a good example of good/great assistant, but subpar head coach.

Plus, love seeing a good ol' North Country NY guy doing well.

  5. Wow the Red Wings performing their same old back half of the season bull crap really proved Lalonde was never the real problem.

  6. How about bringing back paul Maurice he will set the team straight like he did with Panthers i believe there winning the cup again even though im cheering for my second team Oilers as back up to the leafs

  7. Lalonde was awesome for the lightning. He was why our defense was so good. I think he works perfect as an assistant coach. And maybe one day hes a good head coach. As an assistant coach he can stay hyper focused on defense

  8. After 58 years, the Leafs have hired another bald man to stand behind the bench.
The last bald man behind the leaf bench was Punch Imlach .
So, just maybe this might break the Imlach curse.
Wonder if they might convince Derek Lalonde to wear a fedora hat?
Welcome to the Leafs Derek George Imlach Lalonde

  9. Something you should know, his nickname is "Newsy". You'll hear him called that a lot. Basically the entire time he was in Detroit I don't remember anyone calling him "Derek", just "Newsy".

  10. Talking about Tampa's weaknesses on national TV right after getting fired by them. Wonder what happens when he leaves Toronto.

  11. His name is pronounced La-lone. The players in Detroit quit on him before going on a 7 game win streak with McClellan.

  12. I find it hilarious the way people react when a team hires a new coach. If they pick a new guy it's "why him, he's got no experience?" If they pick an experienced coach it's "his team sucked". We'll, of course it did otherwise he wouldn't be available.

  13. Lalonde failed in Motown thus he was well qualified to be a Leafs' assistant coach.

  14. Holly fuck from a wings fan I’m so sorry you guys are screwed lol just when you think it can’t get worse for leafs
