I have no problem bringing back Tavares, at the right price. Signing Marner at this point would be a huge fuck you to the fans. Take that money and find a UFA who might not get 100 points in the regular season but who has a better record of playoff success.
Florida is also the model playoff hockey team.

Leafs suck and should rebuild and quit wasting a playoff spot every year losers since 67 for a reason.
Tampa, Toronto, and Carolina look like garbage next to Florida. So quit dumping on just Toronto.
Ovechkin first season was ‘05-‘06, Backstrom season after, and the Caps were really good regular season team from then on and suffered the most horrible playoff losses for 11 years, often to the Pens in OT, or embarrassed by the 8th seed Habs in 2010, or whoever we lost to in first or second round all of us Caps fans felt the same way as Leafs fan do now. I can promise you the talk in DC was the exact same, just not as loud, the Caps aren’t built for the playoffs or they can’t mentally win a Cup. Then came spring of 2018 😎
My advice would be do not give up on this core four group as long as they can get you to the playoffs – one year the puck will bounce your way.

Addressing the potential moves: Leafs will trade Marner's rights for draft pick; Tavares, 60/40 he comes back at a BIG discount. Knies becomes a much bigger focus in T.O.; likely they keep Matthews, but he'd sure fetch a lot from an American squad (Utah or Anaheim). Woll is a good kid, but Leafs need a 1a, 1b platoon in net (like the old Bruins system with Sway and Ullmark): Gibson from Anaheim sounds like a good candidate; Woll gets another season to get seasoned. Tough break, Leaf fans; they are good, just not at the right time…
They gotta rip that team apart and rebuild it, but they won’t , they’ll just blame it on Mitch like they did Kadri before, who ended up winning a cup before the Leafs did
Basically the regular season has the superstars and high calibre players attract fans for 82 games and pay the bills .
Then come playoff time, the Panthers suffocate all the talent creating a game for me which is boring and unwatchable.

All true, especially for this much disappointment several years in a row for Toronto fans. But now that we have seen the Panthers play in Carolina these first two games… I think Toronto should be cut a little bit more slack for this current year.
