  1. Goal scoring was down across the team, but its not their fault. Its also not the coaches fault. Are we really going to just say that once again the team all went dead in the playoffs? I can give Nelson the pass. This issue falls on Bednar. He does not make changes to the playoff style. Stop giving the man a pass. Also Middlestat was straight garbage so saying he is better than him means not much.

  2. They must put this man in the middle of the ice on the PP. his shot is absolutely lethal. He just struggled finding his spots in this new system. Full offseason training camp and regular season. This dudes gonna be a monster come next postseason.

  3. If necas is unhappy.
Do a sign and trade him to ottawa for 26 2nd rd. Matinpalo as 7th/8th dmen and batherson.

I would trade girard and manson.
Resign lindgren and malinski as a pair.

Then trade for lauzon and sign perbix as a pair.

    Make the bottom six as
    Bunting coyle colton
    Kelly drury LOC.

  4. After game 7-thats maddest I've been about AVS playoff since probably 1998. And as big of underachievement as '98-considering ya not only blew 3rd period leads 3 times to a team missing 2 All stars but Bennet refusing to put Nuke on PP1 was ludicrous,& MAIN reason we lost. If PP is just bad-not atrocious-Avs win in 6 or less. Mico was phenomenal when needed,& obviously deserves a ton of credit. Of course hindsight will blame everything on McFarland & trade but it's not fair to me.He traded him East,& couldn't forsee hed end up in Dallas. I still say McFarland aquired the deepest centers in West,& team/staff blew it. We don't have Drury for sure,& no way both Coyle,& Nelson are here without the cap savings. I get those guys werent great in playoffs-though Drury was pretty good til inopertune penalty,& Nelson was decent. Coyle wasn't good but hes performed in the playoffs before.

And while he got outcoached again by Deboer-I said Bednar should get another chance. But ONLY if he agreed to fire Bennet-which happened. Not saying Bennet didn't have success or doesn't know hockey. But too often under him-PP has been predictable, inflexible & perimeter in big moments. With probably top 3ish talent while he was here-was time for a change-though not remotely all his fault. Edmonton beating Dallas also helped. For all their success-STILL NO CUPS THIS CENTURY! (only '99).But Nelson conversation goes way beyond just having him back,& I'm sure you guys touched on most these points I'm gonna make.I thought Nelson was gone-probably to Minnesota. And him solving a big 2C hole for either Minny,or WPG would've been double whammy. And the assets we gave up has to be factored in but it's more the domino effect. I thought if he did come back-wed have to give him 4 yrs-but 3 is perfect & while maybe a touch high-im good with 7.5-especially 3 yrs.

And had he left-even if he signed out East-itd give you somewhat of a hold at every center spot but 1C-in my opinion.I don't think Nelson is elite 2C anymore. But he's unquestionably above average in my opinion,& has played in 2 ECFs at least. Probably somewhere around 9-12thish best 2C in NHL.Bringing him back not only fills 2C but allows Coyle & Drury to remain perfectly slotted at 3C,& 4C-where I think they both are above average at least. If Nelson left-not only don't have him but I feared we'd try to move those guys up. Probably ok for reg season as both can fill in at those spots. But definitely not good enough in playoffs & I'd be nervous in 82 game reg season. To me Coyle is below average 2C-if more than a handful of games. Nice versatility that he played there in Boston some but if he's 2C-youd have same problem I said all season would cost WPG when it mattered-below average Nemesticov.

Drury is maybe average at 3C but Id say slightly below. But with Nate,Nelson,Coyle,& Drury having a full off-season-as we sit here today-I think we have deepest 4 centers in the West. We will see where Duchene,Tavares, etc go,& if WPG,Minny &/or Van fix their gaping 2C holes but today-I think it's best Avs center depth on paper in cap era. Despite what happened vs Dallas,& despite maybe only Nate is truly elite at his respective position. Obviously he is,& there's argument Drury is elite 4C at his best. But not many teams can even say they have 4 guys above average 1-4C,& none of them have Nate. I don't know-maybe Edmonton,& obviously the have Connor but nobody in Central for sure. Duchene is likely leaving Dallas though we will see.

And still much work to be done. Does Necas want out,do ya resign Nates buddy Drouin? Who took a ridiculous team friendly deal last summer,& has been better than I expected. But also is kinda injury prone,& at times struggles with playoff physicality,& consistency/being perimeter. But to me-if Nichuskin was on PP1-would've been different result-granted Nuke didn't play to his potential either vs Dallas. I also think ya gotta either move Girard or Manson. Not cuz they suck-like haters say-but need to free up some cap,& could get something decent back for either especially Girard. Why I say him- stylistically I think Manson is more important in spring though G will likely be more healthy,& productive reg season guy. Also probably need to unload Colton or Wood.

With his contract-you wouldnt get shit for Wood. But even on salary dump-be worth losing his ridiculous number. Even if ya had to give up late round pick to some rebuilding team. I'm sure you could get something for Colton but maybe not what he's worth. But say Wood,Girard,& if Necas won't resign-should be able to get a decent amount for last 2. Even to replenish picks you may or may not use at deadline. If you trade Necas-probably makes bringing back Droiun more likely. Unless you get Necas close replacement in trade. But so far I'm thrilled with what's happened since game 7. Dallas wont win the Cup,Nelson is back at mostly reasonable price,& perfect term. And Bednar is back,& Ray Bennet IS NOT!

  5. Avs' shortfall remains on defense. Too small & geared to playing offense first. This will continue to prevent them from achieving the ultimate objective of every team. Just a plain, simple fact. Retaining Bednar doesn't help the cause. NOT happening for the Avs as currently constructed.

  6. If we don’t get bigger on defense then all these moves don’t matter. In the the west they are bigger lines and we can’t be all small at all 3 lines of defense

  7. Is Jonathan Toews still have enough in the tank as a 3C? Sign him to a minimum and move Coyle even though I like him a lot. Find a way to move Wood/Colton/Girard.

  8. Guessing it was either 7 mill for Nelson or 10 or much more for Bennet. So i'll take it.

  9. THis guy blocked a trade to the Jets and shut down talk with Toronto last year, to come here. He turned down a very likely chance to play at home or at the very least probably get more $$$$ in a very weak FA market this year. All to play here. With what happened with Mikko and the talk of Marty maybe not being so excited to be here, it's great to have a player like this want to be here! He does so many things well that doesn't show up on a scorecard. And the Avs now have the best 2nd and 4th line in the NHL. That monster line of Landy/Nelson/Val is going to be tough to stop. We need to come up with a name for that line. The Norris God of Hockey and his barbarians. or something. lol.

  10. “My family and I are excited to be staying in Colorado,” Nelson said. “Having spent my entire career with one organization, we weren’t totally sure what to expect when we arrived in Denver. But getting the opportunity to play for the Avalanche, to compete with a great group of teammates in that locker room, and in front of the tremendous fans at Ball Arena, we knew this was where we wanted to stay.

“I’d like to thank the Kroenke family, (president of hockey operations) Joe Sakic, (general manager) Chris MacFarland, (coach) Jared Bednar and our coaching staff for the opportunity.

“Obviously, the way the season ended last year was disappointing, but I can’t wait to get back on the ice soon and continue to push for our goal of winning the Stanley Cup.” – Brock Nelson

  11. This is great , I want the Avs to sign all the players they want to sign and then figure out the $ , let’s not forget you can go 10% higher than the cap in the off season, that’s an extra 9 million, once that’s done then you get rid of what you judge to be unnecessary,,, like Wood for example

  12. Brock's playoff FOs went down & he failed to score a goal. He's the 2nd oldest Av to Manson by eight days. This is COL doing the same thing & expecting different results (insanity).

  13. Do I like watching Girard do his spinny moves during the regular season? Yes.
Do I think Girard is good defenseman during the regular season? Yes.
Do I think that the playoffs are more physical and with tighter forechecking. Yes.
Do I think Girard gets abused during the playoffs. Yes.
Do I think if we run it back we face VGK or DAL and they will target him. Yes.

I like the guy, but I think the Avs need more stay at home D that have size and grit.
