  1. Well it's pretty obvious why they shouldn't do it. But can they trade up and get him at 4 or 5. Unless they trade their own pick next year, that's the only way they can do it. Is Hagens worth it anyway?

  2. It'll be interesting to see what Darche can do in a potential trade sending Pageau somewhere

  3. The clear expectation: Islanders are taking both Schaefer and Hagens, just depends if they trade down or not. I thought you were going to explore that, especially with Utah’s interest and the reports that have stated Darche and Utah have talked about trading for the 4th pick. I’m 99.99% sure that trade will not contain the 1st OVA pick.

Its going to be something like Holmstrom, Jesse Pullkinnen, Maggio, 2nd rounder, a 3rd rounder

Its a forgone conclusion the Islanders like Schaefer, i feel like you’re wasting your breath even worrying about it. The only reason there is smoke is because we know Utah wants to unload that pick for NHL ready guys. We have nothing but NHL ready guys, too much of it. May even cost you Romanov but i can tell you everyone at that draft party will not be traded; i.e. Mayfield, Pageau, Cizikas, Pulock, etc

  4. I’m sick of playing stingy with assets that haven’t led to a winning formula. If it makes us worse next year, I’d rather us suck with a roster that I’m interested in watching develop than seeing us tread water again with the same old boring roster. And if we are worse next year, better odds at Mckenna

  5. Gil, you are bigger than this guy, Shabanov. I’m sorry, but 5’8 and 160 soaking wet – no bueno! We are gonna need to make room this year for possibly Ritchie and Schaefer and next year Eiserman!

  6. I get what you're saying, Gil. However, even with next year being a deeper draft, is the 25th pick next year going to be better than Hagens? Im not sure about that. But in all honesty, if I'm going to trade back up into the draft, I'd like to know what San Jose wants for #2.

  7. I disagree with not trading for that pick, no i wouldn't trade for him if he was from somewhere else, no i dont trade for him because of the story.. i trade for him because he is a die hard islanders fan, he will be an islander for life, and was #1 pick for a long time is enough for me. Its not like we would be getting a late 1st or 2nd rounder

To be clear i wouldnt trade back i would trade for the pick

  8. I say take MISA with the number 1 pick. That kid is going to have an incredible NHL career. Dominant Center and could end up being the Top Line Center. Has good size as well. Not much weakness to his game. I would take Misa over Schaefer

  9. Let’s not let our recent unexpected turn of good draft fortune rot our peasant brains here – the Isles aren’t getting anywhere near even sniffing a fart in a lucky fucking breeze of a top 5 pick next season… let alone McKenna 😂
Please: return to your home-planet’s humble orbit, you rookie psychoticnaut, you 🌌🧠

We’ll end up in contention for WC2 next year, and whether we attain it or not, we’ll end up with a late first round pick, all our own 👏🏻 🎉

Putting aside all consideration of how lucky a team like ours is to have a truly orange & blue blooded perennial top 10 pick whose wholehearted dream it is to hoist a cup whilst sporting an ultimately permanently revived Gordon’s fisherman jersey…

IF we are somehow able to exit this draft securing both the consensus #1 pick AND top 5 first round pick, that’d be the greatest single draft haul the isles ever achieved. Nothing we could do with our draft pick next season could even come close.

So let’s come to peace with this: we’re picking first: which is damn near priceless. And we’re not gonna flub the privilege either, by being too fancy/clever for our own good- we’re taking the clear consensus #1.
If we can somehow emerge ALSO bringing home a homegrown top 10 overall draft talent who wants nothing more than to play his heart and soul out for this team – HIS team – for the entirety of his career…
    🔥 🤯 🏆

  10. To get the 4 th or 5 th The Islanders need to trade Dobson! A bag of old pucks won’t get it done. Dobson would bring the pick to get Hagens and other assets or asset. Schaefer and SoroKing is a good start to a cup! Duclair , Engvall, Pelech , Mayfield are not winning you a cup. If you trade JGP you lose our best faceoff player and PK specialist. On top of that you lose A player who has chemistry with Holmstrom! I would deal Lee, Zeeker, Duclair Engvall, Pelech, Mayfield, and even Dobson before moving JGP. Who will replace JGP in the dot? Stop 🛑 discounting the value JGP has on this team. You want to deal him at the trade deadline? Then fine do That. Fine with small players with skill see The Rat 🐀 King 👑!

  11. Sign Nosek and Brazeau to play with Gatcomb and I will be happy! Draft Schaefer! Trade for Howard! It will take Dobson or Barzal to get Hagens. I am sure Trotz would be happy giving the 5 th pick plus for Dobson. Not interested in giving next years picks so it would be Dobson or Barzal to get Hagens. My guess it would be Dobson.

  12. Good 🌄, Gil. I understand that James Hagens is from Happague and has been an Islander fan ever since he was a kid, but he's not a top prospect. Don't use the top pick and trade bait, THAT'S WHAT LOU LAMORIELLO DID, AND THAT'S WHY THEY'RE STUCK IN THE MUDDY MIDDLE. It's going to be interesting to 👀 how it goes. The trade rumors involving JG Pageou are starting to spin again, and there are teams that are showing some interest. Matheiu Darche should take everything about JG Pageou into consideration. Another KHL Prospect Maxim Tsyblanov, he's 24 years old, can put the puck in the net; however, he's a little guy, but never let the kid's size fool you. HAPPY 🎂, DEAN MCCAMMON. A true journeyman. He scored a goal in a win over the Avalanche. Hear from you later, Gil. I finished 👀 Game 3 of the 1980 Semifinals between the Islanders and the Sabres. Key moment. After Gilbert Perrault tied the game at 2, Bryan Trottier scored the go-ahead 45 seconds later, and late in the 2nd period, he scored again on the PP. Also, the one thing I was hoping wouldn't happen just might happen they're getting a 3rd chance for another NHL team. Now, LET'S GO, ISLANDERS.

  13. Take Schafer and trade as many pieces they can and maybe they will have more picks for the 26 draft. If you are most likely not making the playoffs you might as well really suck for drafting purposes.

  14. The Islanders are going to pick Schaefer no matter what rumors the Sharks vloggers suggest; they are merely spreading hopeful speculation for fans of the Sharks.

  15. 2026 draft with McKenna is by most Scouts a far better Class so if You trade back twice which would be easy if You ask for the 2026 1st unprotected twice so the Sharks get Schaefer and the Hawks get Misa You could take Hagens at 3 and have 4 1sts in 2026 and probably get a good prospect or 2 in the process, That is the only way You even think about trading back

  16. Good morning team! I hope everyone enjoyed this Father's Day! Gil, if Hagens has such a desire to play on the Island for the Islanders, I know this is illegal in hockey, but this is what they should try. Invite Hagens to make the team as a walk on, and still select either Schaefer or Misa in the draft. In order to save some cap space, Hagens would have to play for the league minimum. That can't happen, can it? Everyone, have a great day! See everyone again tomorrow. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!

  17. People around the NHL always talk about 3 kinds of prospects to be careful about. 1st Oevr age prospects because they rarely produce at the next level and we have experience here Jeffries, magic and dufour. 2nd is the prospect who in his draft year shows no progression. For nhl people is all about the progression curve because your trying to project what a 18yo will be.3rd is a prospect who shows regression in his draft year. Hagens unfortunately showed major regression with scouts questio jng whether his scoring will translate in the nhl. Hagens was overwhelmed by the size and strength and physicality and speed of the college game. Many scouts project him to be the type of 1st rd pick who carves out a 10 year career averaging 30-35 points per year. To trade for hagens ? We really want to trade romanov or dobson for that. I say just pass on hagens we will regret giving up assets for a kid who scouts already question whether he will be able to score at the nhl level.

  18. the first issue the new GM should do is trade Lee, J G and Mayfield before the draft. See what picks you have, Get Misa in draft. If Nelson and Finley are staying in school i would try to trade them both for more picks. they may stay in school for 3 more years, why have them…i want has many picks come June 27th…i tell all teams almost every player is available…Time to turn page on this current roster. strip it

  19. Beyond foolish taking Hagens first overall he will definitely be there at 3 if you made a deal with San Jose or Chicago you would still get him

  20. I’m not pounding the table to trade back into the top 5 for hagens but I don’t think it’s too crazy. If this team is looking to retool and unload some contracts, I wouldn’t mind packaging a first next year in a deal. Colorado’s pick will be in the late 20’s and I don’t foresee the islanders having a top ten pick. It’s not JUST that he’s from Long Island, If you can get the guy that was universally ranked #1 – 6 months ago, that has chemistry with one of our prospects, and who unquestionably wants to be an islander, I say you try to get him. The draft is a crap shoot regardless, why not gamble on a hometown guy and the great story? It’s not like they’d be heavily mortgaging the future. Think of it like this, Would you prefer to have 2 picks in the 15-32 range in a “deep” draft or 2 top 5 picks in a mediocre one? I’ll take my chances on two top 5’s. I know it would be tough to make a deal but in a year of change and transition, why not try to make a splash like that? You always say, we need to get younger and faster. So let’s go get younger and faster.

  21. James Hagens is fool's gold. Don't do it, Islanders. Choose the best player. Hagens is NOT it!

  22. Hagens was ranked #1 for a reason. Pick the kid from long island. The universe gifted islanders the #1 pick. Stop trying to over analyzing it.

  23. Trade back to hawks and get solid assets that can be 2nd liners, or middle six. Take Hagens #3 he be first liner. Hawks fans want to deal Korchinski, this be just fine as part of the package. Can prob get a high draft pick too out of trading back.

  24. Here is the thing about the 2026 draft. Yes, it’s deep, but we aren’t talking about there being 15 James Hagens in that draft. Hagens is still a top 10 pick next year. He’s a fantastic player. So yes, 2026 is a “deep” draft, but “deep” mostly refers to there being much more great talent available, like finding great players in the second or late first. You aren’t getting a player of Hagens caliber at 15 next year. Avs first rounder should 100% be on the table here. Im more nervous about trading OUR pick because that can be a lotto pick, so i’d top 10 protect that if I was trading it.

  25. This is simple draft the best player available. I believe that is Shaeffer. As for Hagens if a deal can be made do it but not because he is from Long Island. As for trades everyone should be available for the right deal. I don't believe in untouchables as Babe Ruth and Gretzky were traded. If someone wants to knock my socks off then I will listen and make a deal. I want to unload as many contracts as possible. But the owners want to make the playoffs because of the added revenue. That is the bottom line 2 or 3 home games selling out brings in a lot. I agree with everything you say Gil and enjoy your podcast.

  26. If we could trade Pageau and or Lee for the number four pick and get Hagans, I would do it. So we have the number one pick and the number four pick and I think the future would look good.

  27. I don't trade back. I hold firm at #1, and pick Michael Misa. Then I see if I can swing a deal with Trotz for their #5 first round pick, hoping that Hagens drops and we scoop him up at #5. Wishful thinking.
