I dunno I always think people forget with that Montreal series.. that JT91 got his bell rung and I think the whole team was still semi young enough to not know how to rebound from that.. I mean I'm not even a part of the team and that incident haunts me sometimes lol..

He is absolutely right and I appreciate the directness. If the Leafs really want to change the DNA, Rielly should be first on the list, even ahead of Marner who should have been traded long ago. I also agree, this guy is being paid more in one year than the average Canadian makes in their lifetime so however it must occur Leafs management has to be direct about the fact they don't want him in their lineup.

Is the big question the average level of play? say a team of 5 mil guys throughout the lineup, or, a few highly skilled 14 mil guys and the rest being palookas. Average skill level higher or limited lineup highly skilled?

They can sign a guy like Pius Suter for $5mil/season or something…
I just don’t see the dynamic where a few players are making more than half the team’s salary cap and you expect everyone making a fraction of what superstars are making to “step it up” in the playoffs. Why would I want to play my heart out when the guy making 5-10X’s my salary is dogging it.

If you're getting crazy and trading a goalie, you have to trade Joe Woll, not Stolarz. The Leafs will never do this, but hear me out: 1. Stolarz is an infinitely better puck mover than Woll. With a team like the Panthers, who forecheck relentlessly, having a goalie that can come out of his net and catch the puck along the boards and play it efficiently is HUGE. I strongly believe losing Stolarz's puck handling was a big reason why we lost that series. Woll is terrible with the puck. 2. Woll has trade value. He's perhaps the only player on our roster with trade value. He's young, signed to 3 years at a cheap deal, and a team desperately looking for a goalie would kill to have a guy like Woll. If you want to get creative and find your 2C or 3C via a trade, it's a guy like Woll who you have to send the other way. 3. Stolarz is flat out better than Woll. We have him for one more year. IMO you extend him, find a backup on the cheap (either a backup coming back to you in that same Woll deal, or someone like Jake Allen) and then Stolarz is THE guy moving forward. Don't think this will ever happen, but if you're getting crazy, it's 60 you trade, not 41.

The 2012 draft was under scouted. The top guys sucked and lower rounds had a bunch of diamonds. Vasi, Hellebuyck, Freddy. Leafs Laughton, McCabe, Stolarz. Chandler, Brady Skjei, hertl, forsberg, parayko, slavin, Ghostbear, Ullmark, Teravainen, Esa Lindell. Not so bad.
