  1. The only Toews benefit was cap savings, but as his WPG contract shows, if he only gives 2/3 of a season, its not any savings over Coyle

  2. I sure do appreciate the un biased opinion and outlook from Shaggy. Breathe of fresh air. Avs fans ( though I am one last 30 years) are still stuck in 2022.. haha!
Chris doesn’t think McFarland OR bednar are on the hot seat? Cmon, look at the 7.5×3 contract given to Nelson. That was a desperation signing, showing he didn’t make a mistake trading their top prospect and a 1st for nothing. Look at all his signings since becoming GM. Colton has been the best one and even he has been hot or cold. Avs are cooked 🤣

  3. if we got him fo 1 million i would of been happy , BUT his contract is yea well more than a million if he hits the marks for everything, gets one million alone if the jets win the cup . playing most the of the regular season hes gonna get 2.2 million ,with the contract cooked up if we got him on those terms id be siting him every 4 games lol so he didnt reach the big money and screw up cap wise , unless this is all just a bounus contract and only like 550k goes towards the cap which idk if it can has to be league min right so idk , weird contract though ,had to look says base 2mil so yea mmm no

  4. Toews, was once a good player. But he's damaged goods right now. An even if he comes back with a great year, In my Humble Opinion, signing him is too much of a risk.

  5. The '23 season opener was a back to back: at home against the Blackhawks (Jack Johnson coming over to join the boys as they raised the banner) and then to Calgary the next night. Insane.

  6. The off ice stuff? How exactly was Toews responsible for Kyle Beach?
When I saw you diddy bopping during the intro, then I saw that you called yourself “Shaggy Von Doom” I thought is this guy a goofball? Then you started flapping your gums and there was no longer any doubt.
Bring back Byfuglien? Seriously? You’re conflating the two situations? Sounds like sour grapes to me pal.

  7. Toews wasn’t even good the last time he played, and the guy hasn’t played in years. I’m with Kyle. Drury over Toews for 4C

  8. KSE hurting the Avs and Nuggets. They both win a championship and then both get hammered in playoffs. Both in cap jail, both no picks and both stuck with a core group that might not be able to win

  10. I was disappointed at first, but once I saw the numbers for Toews I was a bit more relieved. I would have loved to see him in Colorado, but I didn't think after all the time he missed plus his age he would command 4+ million even on only a 1 year deal. I thought it the Avs could get him for 1-2 million for one year, sure, why not. That's pretty much no risk, but 4+ seems crazy even for one year.

I really just don't get why everyone wants to see MacFarland and/or Bednar go. I've said it 1000 times, but who do you get that you think does a better job? I have always been in the "if it makes you better, trade/fire/hire whoever. Nobody is untouchable," camp, but who's out there? Mike Sullivan, MAYBE. Jay Woodcroft, WAY bigger maybe, but that's it and honestly I think at best those two could be as good a coach as Bednar. Tocchet? Hakstol? Laviolette? Tortorella? 100% no. So then you're looking at an off-the-board pick with zero or very little experience and again, I'm all about new blood, but is that really worth the risk when you're trying to win a cup? Same for GM, outside of a left-field pick that comes with absurd risk when trying to win a cup, I don't know how you can make a case for anyone even doing as good of a job as MacFarland has.

I also like how everyone is quick to point out the "failures" and yet conveniently dismiss the successes(which vastly outnumber the failures as far as I'm aware). Mittlestadt has been the only one that REALLY didn't work out for what the Avs intended. Nichuskin has become one of the Avs best players. Necas was and will continue to be one of the Avs best players. Drury has shown to be a good fit and should only get better the more time he spends in the Avs system. Nelson was good and should still be good. That's just off the top of my head. Guys that came in and worked out while MacFarland was Assistant GM count too. The organization was getting ready to hand over the team to MacFarland while Sakic was GM. He had as much to do with the trades as anyone when he was AGM.
