I think the Isles did as good as they possibly could have considering the position they were in with Dobson , Schaefer and Eklund picks were elite picks considering getting a Player like Eklund at 16 , overall Schaefer, Eklund , Aitcheson , Heilemen and 9.5M in cap space is a big step forward for a Franchise
Islanders did real well in draft. Im a bruins fan and i am thrilled to have hagens on our team

Add Howard to the mix and possibly 3 first rounders in next years draft depending on Lee and pageaus value and our prospect pool will be top of the league by next season, I’m ok with taking a step back this season
Eklund and Aitchison for Dobson? All day long!! As for Hagens we have no idea what the cost would have been. Sounds like the price was too high and Barry Trotz in Nashville was not going to help the Islanders in any way and Boston is still stinging from the 3 draft picks in a row in the 2015 draft where they didn't choose Barzal and 2 of there 3 picks were busts.

Everybody saying Darche didn't get enough for Dobson. OK where was the other trade where Darche was getting more? Darche went back to Columbus and asked for more than the Habs and Columbus said no. A trade requires at least TWO teams to agree to the terms. One team wanting to trade a player does not a trade make. B+ for trade under the circumstances.
Most importantly- they are building a culture. A mindset. A mantra. Hopefully- these picks fit that narrative. Panthers. That’s what we are up against- and trying to emulate.
I think Islanders got a steal in Victor Eklund which I felt was a top 10 prospect. The run on centerman dropped a lot of forwards and defenseman.
I love the picks. Nothing is guaranteed with draft picks so trading 2 picks for a “home town kid” to me isn’t the move unless it’s a lock which Haggens isn’t. I think the steal of the draft is Keshawn. A real physical D-Man thats already at size to play. Pumped about this slide down to 17!!

One more note, the Obson trade IMO is not underwhelming. We got a huge monkey off our back. Think of it this way, he had every reason to ball out this year being a contract year and he sucked. On top of that the team played better when he wasn’t on the ice, this is not the caliber of player worth 9 mill. With that said Darche needs to make a decision this year Get competitive or rebuild. I think he looked at the pieces we have and chose to rebuild. The future looks bright

Eklund great pickup. Chance to be best forward from this draft. Straight line speed, north south physical game. HOWEVER, he is 158lbs red flag

Islanders had an amazing round 1. Best first round they’ve had in a while. And they just drafted a 6’6” shit brick house from Russia at 42. Future just got a whole lot better. Some of y’all will never be happy.
Aicheson is the next pk subban
Daniil Prokhorov is much better than his stats would lead one to believe. In my opinion, once he starts playing with better talent around him, he will end up being a second line winger.
Isles fans are more disappointed to not get Hagens than happy to get the number 1 pick.
Darche did say that he was unable to reach a deal with Dobson, and that ultimately led to the trade. Also to your point we didn’t purposely stick and pick with 16 and 17. Darche tried to trade up and get Hagens, but no team wanted to drop that low. Can’t fault the guy for that. Overall Im very excited to see what comes of our 3 first round picks, especially Shaffer. id say this was a pretty successful draft

Darch miscalculated on what it would take to get into the top 7. He should have done that work earlier in the process which would have allowed him to hold Dobson's rights longer for a better deal. At least one NHL ready player should have come back. Darch got lucky that the kids at 16/17 were there.
The Draft was so fucking boring!
Man Isles have been old and everyone complaining. We just got tons of young talent and didn't commit to a long term contract not worth the value. Have faith in the new gm, building a team takes more than one year
It would have been nice to get Hagens, but I didn't want us to overpay. I'm happy with the two picks the Islanders made in the middle of the first round
